We are starting to get some NHL season updates as the league and players association have started to talk again. What does this mean for the season? And how many games are they discussing? Hunter touches on those, plus how many back-to-backs could be on the horizon for some teams, including the Penguins. Hunter also touches on why the league and PA just need to figure out these economic issues and to stop playing cat and mouse. After that, Hunter goes into Evgeni Malkin's season review and looks at just how great he was. Would he have won the Hart trophy if the season somehow ended in December? Just how good were his underlying numbers and why was there a big change? Finally, the Penguins have been linked to playing some games outside this coming season so Hunter looks at which stadium would make more sense. Would it also be better in terms of getting fans in? All that, plus more on this episode of Locked On Penguins.

There's not been a lot of news surrounding next season but Hunter brings on Josh Yohe to talk about the ramifications if the league and PA can't come to a agreement sooner rather than later. Will the fans go restless if something doesn't happen soon? How many games is Josh hearing that next season will be? How would he also like the Penguins in a new division? After they touch on that, Hunter asks Josh for his favorite reverse retro jerseys and his thoughts on Pittsburgh's. Is he a fan of Colorado's? What about the Hurricanes ones with the Whalers jerseys? After that, Hunter asks Josh about who he's most excited to watch next season from the new acquisitions. How does Kapanen fit on the first line? What about Mike Matheson? Finally, Josh tells everyone what he misses the most while covering the team each season.

Have you ever wondered about which jerseys or numbers the Penguins will eventually retire besides Jaromir Jagr soon? We all know Crosby and Malkin and Letang will go up there but what about the other greats who have played here? Thanks to a listener's question, Hunter gives some other names who the Penguins should retire and also talks about a player who shouldn't have his retired. He also talks about that vaunted 2013 Penguins team as he's been watching some highlights over the last few days. What went wrong for them? How did Boston just get them so off their game? How good of a final of Pittsburgh-Chicago have been. Hunter also talks about Kasperi Kapanen's season review and what he'll bring to the Penguins. Is he capable of a 55-60 point season? Where does he slot into the lineup for the power play? All that, plus much more on this latest episode of Locked On Penguins.

We're starting to get updates on the NHL's plan for the playoffs next season and there's a lot of different scenarios. Will there be an all-division playoffs until the final 4? What about conference based? Hunter breaks those down, plus add his own idea in of letting the top teams pick their opponents in a live show. The drama would be absolutely awesome, plus could another option be to see the teams 1-16 and so on? Hunter talks about how great of an idea that would be, plus reviews Jake Guentzel's shortened season. Can he be a 40 goal scorer for years to come? Hunter also explains why he needs to be a Penguin long after Crosby and Malkin retire. Finally, Hunter unveils his starting six from 2000-2010 for the Penguins and there may be a few surprises on there for some people.

The Penguins in a Central Division? Greg Wyshynski of ESPN posted an image of what he's hearing for the new divisions for this upcoming season and the Penguins would be out of the East division with their rivals. Hunter explains why it's a great idea as the Penguins could rekindle an old rivalry with the Detroit Red Wings and potentially beat the Blackhawks more often. Also, Hunter talks about the latest negotiations between the NHL and the PA and why the owners are insane to ask for another 16% salary deferral from the players. After that, Hunter dives into Bryan Rust's season review. How much will he put up next season? How much will his shooting % come down? All that, plus much more on this episode of Locked On Penguins.

Another week means more Locked On Penguins episodes and we actually have some news to talk about this week! First up is the reverse retro jerseys as that's been the big topic of discussion. How good are the Penguins ones? How many games does Hunter hope they wear it for? Hunter also ranks his five favorite jerseys and his least favorite ones as well. After that, Hunter gets into the latest NHL news and the fact that the league only has a week left, if that if they want to start the season January 1st. What should the league do if they start the season at the end of January? What teams should be in the Penguins division if there's realignment? Finally, we get to Jason Zucker's season in review and Hunter has a bold prediction for how his next season will turn out.

It's finally Friday which means another weekend but there's still Penguins content to talk about. To start the episode, Hunter goes into the details surrounding the NHLPA call and the NHL Board of Governors calls from yesterday. Will the NHL implement a series of 2-3 games against all teams during the regular season? How great of an idea would that be? Hunter also thinks about how it's more likely the season starts in February than January since it's not likely all camps will be able to start about a month from now. After that, Hunter goes into Brian Dumoulin's season review and what to expect from him next season. Finally, Hunter names his starting six for the Penguins using only players from 2010-2020.

With not a lot of content going on around the NHL, Hunter decided to bring on The Athletic's Rob Rossi to talk all things Penguins from this offseason and a ton more. They first start out talking about the new season coming up and if there are any updates with that. How many games are being considered? Could the NHL do 4 hub cities with teams for 10-12 days and then teams go home for a week? After they discuss that, they talk about the Penguins moves this offseason. Does Rob currently see them as a Stanley Cup contender? Where do they stack up in the Metropolitan Division? After that, they go into the front office shakeup and talk about if ownership potentially mandated a few of these moves. Finally, Hunter brings up the new jersey that is coming for the Penguins and Rob teases a return of the infamous Robo Penguin! All that, plus much more on this special episode of Locked On Penguins.

We're back with more episodes this week and the player season reviews continue today with defenseman Marcus Pettersson. Was there a bit of a sophomore slump for him? Was he their best defenseman in the players numbers wise? What are some reasonable expectations for him going into next season? Hunter discusses that with his pairing of John Marino and then looks back at the Penguins best game of the regular season. It ended up being that wild game against the Vancouver Canucks when the Penguins were down 6-3 in the third period and won 8-6. Hunter discusses that game, plus ponders some other thoughts: Would Jake Guentzel have been a 45-50 goal scorer had he not been hurt and without the pandemic? Just how good was Geno during that run? He then ends the show with a new mask from Tristan Jarry and an imminent announcement coming from Adidas on the Penguins reverse retro jersey.

There's finally been some more Penguins news and it comes in the form of the front office. Jim Rutherford promoted Patrik Allvin to assistant general manager and Sam Ventura to Director of Hockey Operations. Cam (NotThatFehr) from Penguins Twitter joins the show and helps Hunter break down the moves. Is this a deserved promotion for Allvin? Is Sam Ventura going to have more of a say now with his? And finally, could Ventura be a candidate for GM after Rutherford is done? After they talk about that, they touch on some rumors with the NHL season and if it's feasible to play 4 games a week. After that, they touch on a mailbag segment and continue the player season review with Kris Letang. Why is he so under-appreciated? What should we expect from him next season? Is he the best defenseman in franchise history not named Paul Coffey. All that, plus much more in this latest episode.
