The Penguins surprisingly inked defenseman Juuso Riikola to a two-year deal last weekend and Hunter is back on Locked On Penguins this week to talk all about that deal and what could come next. Can he finally play in the lineup full-time for Jack Johnson? What happens now with the very, very crowded blue-line that the Penguins have? These are all questions Hunter tries to answer, plus what did GMJR likely promise RIikola in their negotiations? Hunter gets into that, plus the Kris Letang article that came out yesterday on The Athletic. Hunter talks about how it would make no sense to trade Letang right after they made the Penguins made their move to get Kasperi Kapanen, plus has a message for all of the people who still under-appreciate Kris Letang in the Penguins fanbase. Today is a very special episode of Locked On Penguins as Hunter is joined by Jon Chik of Locked on Rangers to discuss their hiring of former Penguins assistant coach Jacques Martin. Hunter talks about Martin's defensive impact and the scheme he likes to run, as well as how he'll fit in with the Rangers coaching staff. The two then discuss the goaltending market and free agency as it's sure to be wild. Will teams spend less this offseason due to the flat cap? The two ponder that question, plus talk about the Stanley Cup Playoffs and how we're getting at least one Game 7 in this second round. Finally, they touch on the awful playoff commercials that have been playing and how overplayed they've become.

Will Reirden's power play be as lethal as it was when he was here the first time? Plus, what will the alignment look like? Hunter dives into that, plus how Vellucci could one day be replacing Mike Sullivan or getting a head coaching gig somewhere else as he's done great work. Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby underwent surgery on his wrist today and Hunter is back on Locked On Penguins to give the details about that and how long the recovery time is. That definitely explains why Crosby was not at training camp for much of the return to play and why he didn't look normal during the series against Montreal. Hunter also touches on Elliotte Friedman's 31 Thoughts Podcast and how Friedman aid he doesn't think Jack Johnson is available for reasons that are out of this world bad. Hunter also gives his thoughts on what Jim Rutherford had to say on Pierre Lebrun and Scott Burnside's podcast on The Athletic today as he touched on the trade, the goaltending, the core, etc. Could there still be a core player moved? We're talking more about the big trade that happened on Tuesday and Jesse Marshall from The Athletic comes back on Locked On Penguins to dive into all of it with Hunter. They discuss why the cost to acquire was still bad from Jim Rutherford, plus how he wouldn't have made a difference against the Canadiens in this years playoff series. They also touch on if there's a way that the trade could be really worth it next season if he produces well enough next to Sidney Crosby and Jake Guentzel. Also, what's the biggest question mark going forward, besides the goaltending trade that's coming? Jesse answers that, plus much more in this episode of Locked On Penguins.

An unexpected trade occurred today with the Pittsburgh Penguins and Hunter is here to break it all down on Locked On Penguins. He touches on Kasperi Kapanen and why he's not a bad player to add back to the team, but at that cost? Hunter also ponders what the Penguins actually could've gotten back for the 15th overall pick and Filip Hallander if they had actually used it right. Plus, is it time for Jim Rutherford to potentially step down? It's been a few years of just mostly bad acquisitions and just winging it without any true plan and Hunter dives into that as well.
