Locked On Penguins - Daily Podcast On The Pittsburgh Penguins

We're likely one day closer to Kyle Dubas deciding if he wants to take the GM job in Pittsburgh and Hunter has the latest for you to start the show. He dives into Taylor Haase's report about Dubas being in town and meeting with Sidney Crosby as that's a big deal. Hunter points out that Dubas likely wouldn't be doing that if he wasn't serious about the gig. He then looks at how Dubas is likely interviewing the Penguins as much as they are interviewing him since he wants to see if this is a good fit for him. What's the main driving force behind the decision? Hunter answers that question (no, it's not money) before giving a prediction as to whether he takes the job or not. After that, he dives into Rob Rossi and Josh Yohe's bombshell article that dropped on Wednesday as the last regime continues to look awful. Hunter gives his main takeaways from it before moving on to Jan Rutta's season in review and why the next regime might look to deal him this summer since he didn't live up to expectations this past season.

The GM search continues to get even crazier as the updates come in virtually every hour. Hunter catches the audience up with the latest on the search as it seems to be a two-horse race right now. He looks at where things stand with Kyle Dubas and who would likely get the gig if Dubas decides he doesn't want to get back into it so quickly. He then discusses how Eric Tulsky is out of it before jumping to some contract projections from Daily Faceoff. What is Jarry's? Can the Penguins afford to pay for it? What about Zucker's? Are there any free agent options on there who can fully replace them? Finally, he ends the show with some playoff talk and how the Florida Panthers continue to be the team of destiny around the league.

Happy Monday, and this could be a MASSIVE week for the Pittsburgh Penguins organization. Hunter is joined by Josh Yohe of The Athletic to discuss everything regarding the Penguins and their GM search. They start with the new rumors surrounding Kyle Dubas and whether he is a legit candidate. Is he fired up about what happened in Toronto? Would he say yes to Pittsburgh? After that, Hunter goes over Eric Tulsky and if he should be considered the favorite for the gig before they discuss some of the other finalists. They then analyze the Jason Botterill situation and why it seems to be a very murky one considering that nobody knows how serious it is. They also discuss John Chayka and if he's a candidate, plus end on the "hockey men" and if any of those people are still in it. After that, Hunter gets Josh's thoughts on what the team should do with the No. 14 overall pick in the 2023 NHL Draft before asking Josh to predict who gets the gig. All of that, plus if the Penguins will hire more than one person for their front office, is on this episode of the Locked On Penguins podcast.

It has been a CRAZY 24 hours around the NHL and that continued on Friday when the Toronto Maple Leafs fired Kyle Dubas. Hunter dives into why that press conference was SO awkward and why it looks like Dubas got shafted by Brendan Shanahan. He then discusses what this means for the Pittsburgh Penguins and if they will at least try to call him for a job (President of Hockey Operations, perhaps?) Hunter then ponders if he will take some time off after what he said on Monday about how he was absolutely gassed this season. After that, Hunter analyzes that amazing Game 1 on Thursday night between the Carolina Hurricanes and Florida Panthers. He loved how great the game was even when players were obviously tiring and especially loved how the game-winning goal was purely skilled and not just an ugly goal that's a lucky bounce. Finally, he analyzes Brian Dumoulin's season and why it's highly unlikely that he comes back for another season.

More GM smoke! Hunter continues to be blown away by all of the info that is now coming out about the GM search and that's where he starts today's episode! He discusses a few main points about what Elliotte Friedman talked about in the latest episode of 32 Thoughts, one of which is about John Chayka. Is he the favorite to get at least one of the positions in the front office? With the way Elliotte was talking about him, it seems fairly obvious that the Penguins are very much considering him for a role, whether it's for GM or President of Hockey Ops. He also looks at how the team is beginning Phase II and some of the names that Friedman dropped. Is Eric Tulsky still in it? What about Mathieu Darche? Hunter gives his thoughts on the rumored names who are getting in-person interviews before finally giving a prediction on what the front office will look like once the hires are done. After that, he reviews Jeff Petry's season and why he didn't live up to the expectations of a No. 2 right-shot defenseman. Is there hope that he can be a bit better next season? Should the Penguins consider trading him? Hunter dives into all of that before ending the show with some news surrounding Mike Vellucci and a feel-good story about Sidney Crosby.

It's a day that ends in "Y" so that means there's more to the GM search! Hunter starts the show by discussing Jason Botterill's candidacy and why he suddenly got a lot of love from two separate media outlets. He looks at the pros and cons of Botterill's case to be the GM and analyzes why he wouldn't be at the top of his list. However, he gives a couple of reasons why it can work since he definitely wouldn't be the worst choice out there. After that, he dives into Pierre Lebrun's latest rumblings and looks at a few new names he dropped in his article that got Zoom interviews with Fenway Sports Group. Who will likely get a second interview with FSG? Is the search likely to end in the next couple of weeks? Finally, he does a Western Conference and Eastern Conference FInal preview and gives his predictions as to who will play in the Stanley Cup Final in just a couple of weeks.

It was a busy Monday when it comes to the Pittsburgh Penguins and updates on their GM search. Hunter starts the show by diving into those updates and how the Penguins have finished their first round of interviews. He discusses the latest report from Pierre LeBrun and why it's great seeing Eric Tulsky mentioned for the gig. That said, he does dive into why both Marc Bergevin and Peter Chiarelli should not be GMs again in this league since they didn't do much of anything in their last stops. Also: What is Hunter's dream Penguins front office based on the latest names? You can find that answer here, too. He then dives into Marcus Pettersson's season in review and why he had his best one yet. He looks at the numbers and what he saw on the ice to assess his play before thinking about what he's going to do next season and beyond. Remember when people wanted to trade him? Finally, he ends the show with some playoff talk as the Vegas Golden Knights took out the Edmonton Oilers on Sunday night.

Happy Toronto Maple Leafs Elimination Day! Hunter starts the show off with a BANG as the GM search in Pittsburgh is about to get VERY interesting. Why? Kyle Dubas has just been eliminated, and there's no guarantee the Maple Leafs will bring him back. Hunter dives into how soon Fenway Sports Group could look to talk to him as they're reportedly already done with their first round of interviews. He looks at how Dubas would be an upgrade over the last regime (Who wouldn't?) before discussing how he still has some faults, as any GM does. He dives into his positives and negatives as a GM while also wondering if FSG would give him total autonomy of the roster. Hunter discusses why that might not be the best idea given some of the mistakes he has made in Toronto and gives his hope of what a front office would look like if Dubas is the hire. After that, he continued the season reviews with Kris Letang and why he still had a good season despite everything he went through. He then analyzes what he expects from him next season before ending the show with some more World Championship and playoff talk.

There's never a dull day when it comes to the Pittsburgh Penguins. There are ALWAYS things to discuss and Hunter starts the show by going over Ryan Poehling's season in review. He looks at both eh positives and negatives for this game and why at times, he couldn't put it together since he was a bit banged up. That said, Hunter did like his game when he was in the lineup and brings up the stats to support his evidence as to why he would bring him back on a cheap contract. Hunter also discusses what position he should play to start the season and it may be a surprise to some of you. After that, he analyzes a potential Jason Zucker replacement if the team cannot come to terms with him on a new contract. It's one that fans may like a bit more since he has been linked to them several times over the past couple of seasons. Finally, Hunter looks into what Frank Seravalli had to say about Mike Sullivan on Thursday with more details about why he won't be fired and also discusses what to look for from the Penguins who are at the World Championships.

More rumors and details have come out about the Pittsburgh Penguins general manager search and that's where Hunter starts for this episode of the Locked On Penguins podcast. He dives into Frank Seravalli's report on how the front office is going to have a similar structure to the last one while also looking at a few of the candidates that have reportedly gotten interviews. Hunter is a bit skeptical about most of these names getting to the second round of interviews and he explains why before discussing how Frank is likely getting this information. Hunter also discusses why it's fine for the Penguins to be casting such a wide net since the first round of interviews isn't even over yet. After that, Hunter explains why Mike Sullivan is not going to the New York Rangers. He goes into how Sullivan is involved with the GM search (though he won't have the final say) and how FSG picked him over Hextall at the end of this season. Oh yeah, he also is signed for four more years. Finally, Hunter analyzes the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs and why it has been a total dud compared to the first round.
