The Red Sox were walked off in the Bottom of the 9th Inning by the Astros in the series opener Monday night at Minute Mait Park.  Final Score: Astros 5.  Red Sox 4.  Yainer Diaz hit a solo Home Run off of Kenley Jansen to win it.  Astros are 4-0 on the season against the Red Sox.  Jarren Duran and Masataka Yoshida hit Home Runs in the win. The Astros have won 7 straight meetings against the Red Sox dating back to last season.

Walk-Off Bomb: Diaz homered off Jansen after Jansen had struck out Yordan Alvarez on 3 pitches for the 1st out in the 9th.  It's the 4th time this season that the Red Sox have suffered a walk-off loss.

Out of the Pen: Chris Martin was the 1st out of the Pen for the Red Sox Monday night.  Martin gave up 2 singles in the frame, but also struck out 3 to strand the 2 runners.  Martin got a strike out on Yainer Diaz on a pitch-clock violation.  He came back and struck out Jeremy Pena on 3 straight pitches.

Out of the Pen II: Lucas Sims took the hill in the 8th trying to preserve a 1-run lead. Sims issued a leadoff walk and the Sox then turned a double play up the middle.  Sims gave up a 2-out single Chas McCormick, who stole 2nd and scored the tying run on a single by Mauricio Dubon.

1st-Pitch Hacking: Jarren Duran got the Red Sox on the board immediately with a leadoff Home Run to leftfield on the 1st pitch of the game from Yusei Kikuchi.  It was Duran's 16th of the season, his 4th career Home Run to lead off a game and 2nd this year.  UPDATE UPDATE (Sox are 9-6 when Duran hits a HR this season Update for Monday!!!!).

In A Pinch- The managers were working in the 7th.  The Astros brought in right-handed reliever, Taylor Scott, with 2 righty-hitters due up.  Alex Cora called upon Masataka Yoshida to pinch-hit for Connor Wong.  Yoshida hit a 2-run Home Run the opposite way to give the Red Sox a 4-2 advantage. The Home Run was challenged on the field and confirmed on review.  It's the 6th Pinch-Hit Home Run of the season for the Red Sox.

Casas At The Dish: Tristan Casas started his 4th straight game since coming off the Injured List on Friday and went 0-for-4 with 3 strikeouts.  Casas 5-for-18 (5 Singles) in his 1st 4 games back in the lineup.

Tanner's Night: Tanner Houck entered his start Monday with the Red Sox losing his previous 5 starts.  Houck was staked to the early lead with the Sox scoring 2 in the 1st.  He got a groundball double play to end the 1st inning and did not allow a run over the 1st 3 Innings.  The Astros got 2 in the 4th to even the game at 2-2, but Houck came back and got the final 2 outs to strand a runner at 3rd base.  Houston got to within a run on a couple of hits and a sacrifice fly in the 6th Inning. Houck was done after 6 and left the game with a 4-3 lead. He would end up with his 4th No-Decision in his last 6 Starts.

A Look Ahead: The Red Sox and Astros continue their series Tuesday night at Minute Maid Park.  Nick Pivetta opposes Ronel Blanco. Justin Verlander is expected to be activated from the Injured List and start the series finale on Wednesday.  Verlander has not pitched since June 9 and missed time because of neck stiffness.  Verlander is expected to be on a pitch count.  He has a 3-2 record and a 3.05 ERA in his 10 outings this season.
