Locked On Saints - Daily Podcast On The New Orleans Saints

The New Orleans Saints drafted Tennessee cornerback Alontae Taylor in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft. Immediately, he is expected to compete with 2021 third-round pick Paulson Adebo for the Saints starting cornerback role.

Alontae Taylor should have an immediate impact on the Saints roster even if he does not win that starting corner spot. He projects to be an elite special teamer who should be able to contribute his rookie season one way or another.

Taylor's story is a remarkable one, he's endeared himself quite a bit already. But one specific element of his early football career shows why Dennis Allen, Kris Richard, and others on the Saints coaching staff have confidence in hist ability to develop quickly.

The Saints can keep their momentum from the NFL Draft rolling by signing Jarvis Landry and Sony Michel, after both had free agency visits with the team. The could also use a lucky roll of the dice when it come to the NFL Schedule Release to land some rest around their big trip to London.

The New Orleans Saints 2022 NFL Draft class kicked off with Ohio State's Chris Olave and Northern Iowa's Trevor Penning. Penning is set up to take over where Terron Armstead recently departed at left tackle on the Saints' offensive line. Will he be able to start right away? Will he be the left tackle of the future?

UNI insider Eliot Clough joins the show to discuss Penning's make up as a man, talent as a player, and why Saints fans and the Who Dat Nation will love him. As with all sports in the city, love New Orleans and it will love you back, Clough says that will apply immediately to Penning who is sure to buy right in to the Saints' ways.

New Orleans Saints Safety Tyrann Mathieu talks dream of joining hometown club. Michael Thomas and Chris Olave could be a dynamic tandem in 2022, thanks to Garrett Wilson, we already know how it would look. Saints to host former New England Patriots and Los Angeles Rams running back Sony Michel this week.

Mathieu met with New Orleans media this week to discuss his signing with the Saints. He also talked about how he sees his fit with the defense, the memory of a New Orleans Super Bowl victory, and how he hopes to finish his career with the Saints.

Looking over the last 21 first round receivers, with some adjustments, gives us a pretty good idea of what to expect from Ohio State Buckeyes wideout Chris Olave in his rookie year with the Saints. Adjusting for the potential unavailability of Alvin Kamara early, he could have a huge impact.

Sony Michel is the perfect free agency running back fit for the Saints at this point in the offseason. He'll visit Airline Drive later this week and hopefully not leave without a contract. The internationally-undefeated Saints will play the Minnesota Vikings in London Week 4 of the 2022 NFL season.

Safety Tyrann Mathieu signed a three-year deal with the New Orleans Saints and now, the Saints have a versatile and unpredictable defense to help them contend in 2022. Mathieu's fit with the Saints brings intangibles like leadership and experience along with versatility and multi-phase defensive plays.

D'Marco Jackson and Jordan Jackson have a legitimate shot to see snaps this season. Both on special teams and even on defense as rotational and important depth pieces. Unless the Saints bring back linebacker Kwon Alexander, D'Marco Jackson has a clear path to the 53-man roster much like Chris Olave, Trevor Penning, and Alontae Taylor.

The Saints sign 17 undrafted free agents, a large group that spanned from wide receiver to specialists like punter and kicker. Like most UDFAs, there are three on the Saints' list that who's special teams acumen could land them a roster spot. Smoke Monday has already endeared himself to the Saints fanbase, and he'll get some chances in camp to convince the Saints coaching staff.

Tyann Mathieu is set to return home to his hometown New Orleans Saints for at least the 2022 NFL season. A massive signing for the Saints bringing Honey Badger back to the Big Easy.

Mathieu makes the New Orleans Saints a legitimate NFC contender with a 2022 roster better than 2021. Michael Thomas and Chris Olave make for a dynamic wide receiver tandem, Jameis Winston is ready to go with no questions about the starting quarterback, Taysom Hill improves the tight end room, and the safety tandem of Mathieu and Marcus Maye may be better than what they had in Marcus Williams and Malcolm Jenkins.

These are not the New Orleans Saints you're used to. Dennis Allen, Mickey Loomis, and the rest fo the Saints brass are putting together another defensive powerhouse with an offense ready to thrive. Big free agency moves, drafting at positions of need. The new regime has brought some impactful changes.

Could Jarvis Landry be the next free agent the Saints land? Now with Tyrann Mathieu in the building, they have the biggest recruiting tool they need.

The New Orleans Saints surprised with their second round selection of Tennessee cornerback Alontae Taylor. But Taylor is a talented prospect who deserves a shot at a bigger role than CB depth and special teamer. The young defensive back as the skills to play safety, but may get a shot to compete at corner according to head coach Dennis Allen.

Malik Willis, Desmond Ridder, and Matt Corral all finally came off the board in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft. Why it's a good thing that the Saints didn't get fooled into diving in on the position and how that choice immediately favors Dennis Allen.

The names you should want to hear during tomorrow's Day 3. Defensive tackle, running back and pass catcher are all positions of focus the Saints could key in on with the final two Day 3 selections. Perrion Winfrey, Matthew Butler, and Matt Henningson are all options on the defensive interior while Isaiah Spiller and Dameon Pierce await their names to be called among running backs.

The New Orleans Saints dominate the first round of the NFL Draft addressing their two biggest needs at wide receiver and offensive tackle with Chris Olave of Ohio State University and Northern Iowa's Trevor Penning.

How the Saints got it done, what it means for their chances to compete in 2022 and what we're glad we didn't see the Saints do. New Orleans did exactly what they needed to do in round one of the NFL Draft.

Did the Saints give up too much to move up for Chris Olave? Should it matter? Dennis Allen seems to believe they got their guy.

Safety Jaquan Brisker, DL Travis Jones, and perhaps a second receiver are the best options for the Saints on Day Two. but it's worth keeping an eye out on Liberty QB Malik Willis, who did not get selected in the first round.

The New Orleans Saints have been connected to quarterbacks this entire draft cycle, but drafting one would have to mean that the more important positions that need to be addressed are already off the board. Why the New Orleans Saints shouldn’t draft a quarterback in the first round and why it feels like they won’t. If they do, though, who are the two best fits and why isn’t Kenny Pickett one of them?

We believe the Saints will look to trade up into the top 10 or top 12 for an offensive tackle. Here’s why Charles Cross of Mississippi State would be the best fit. It feels likely that while wide receiver is a big need for the offense, that the trenches may get the early attention Day One. Georgia defensive tackles Devonte Wyatt and Jordan Davis will be the names to watch.

The Kansas City Chiefs could ruin the Saints’ pursuit of wide receiver if they were looking to target one in the first round. Why the Chiefs may be looking to trade up from the bottom of the first round and repeat history by taking a top option off the board for New Orleans and more draft rumors that could change the course of the their draft strategy.

The NFL Draft is always unpredictable and the New Orleans Saints have the ammunition to take advantage of that with their two first round selections. While the Saints sit along with seven other teams with two picks and there's still no consensus top player and several positions or the draft as a whole, New Orleans can sit back and see how the board falls.

Whether it's a dropping quarterback like Malik Willis, a top tackle like Charles Cross, or potentially Chris Olave, Garrett Wilson or Jameson Williams atop the WR board, the Saints should be able to take advantage of the endless possibilities of this year's first round.

Two seven-round Saints mock drafts with high randomness via pro football focus.
