Locked On Saints - Daily Podcast On The New Orleans Saints

Does it make sense for the New Orleans Saints to trade up again after making their move with the Philadelphia Eagles? Not unless they’re targeting a specific prospect. Mississippi State offensive tackle Charles Cross and Notre Dame safety Kyle Hamilton are both prime candidates if they fall into the striking distance for the usually aggressive Saints.

Seven-round mock draft based on trading up for Charles Cross. Walking away with Cross and a top receiver would be a huge win for New Orleans. Would Jameson Williams, Chris Olave, or Garrett Wilson be the best option? Another safety to know and some late-round gems that could help the Saints win now.

With only a few first-round grades being handed out by NFL teams, there are expected to be some surprise names called in the first round. Georgia safety Lewis Cine and wideout George Pickens, Ohio State tackle Nicholas Petit-Frere, and Houston defensive tackle Logan Hall are all names to watch for the New Orleans Saints.

Could the New Orleans Saints look to invest in top talent at non-premium positions if the top talent on premium positions in the year's NFL Draft are off the board? If Evan Neal, Ikem Ekwonu, Charles Cross and Trevor Penning are always taken by 19 after going wide receiver at 16, would a top safety or defensive tackle be a better option than the fifth offensive tackle?

If so, names like Tyler Smith, Abraham Lucas, and Nicolas Petit-Frere are the ones to watch at tackle in the second round.

Deebo Samuel has asked to be traded from the San Francisco 49ers, should the New Orleans Saints be involved? Yes, but it seems unlikely. New Orleans looks intent upon going into the draft to add cheaper rookie talent, so trading picks wouldn't make sense. And if Deebo's issue in San Francisco is his usage, will he want to change his role into one that impact his value? Worth the money?

Trends and tendencies for Mickey Loomis and Jeff Ireland in Saints drafts since 2015. A greater focus on premium positions in the early rounds could make all the difference as New Orleans looks to build in this year's draft.

New Orleans Saints are expected to host veteran wide receiver Jarvis Landry for a free agency visit. But would signing the former LSU Tiger preclude the Saints from investing highly at the position in the NFL Draft?

It certainly shouldn't. In fact, it could lead the Saints to take a bigger risk as the position. For instance, drafting Alabama's Jameson Williams could be a more comfortable situation with Michael Thomas and Landry on the roster. It would allow the Saints to not rush Williams into action as he continues to recover from his late knee injury.

Jarvis Landry would bring the Saints a player that can separate, make contested, touch catches, and move the change with his RAC ability. He'd also be able to take on a slot, close to the line of scrimmage role, opening up Michael Thomas and a talent rookie addition to man the outside and expand the route tree and maximize the arm strength of quarterback Jameis Winston.

New Orleans Saints second-year breakout candidate Pete Werner may be in for an expanded role in 2022. With Kwon Alexander visiting the New York Jets, the path may become more clear in the coming days.

Werner may not have piled on the stat sheet, but what he did well, he did at an impressive level. Despite being thrown into action against the Miami Dolphins with little prep, he played the defensive quarterback role extremely well and has earned a bigger role next season.

Which NFL Draft wide receivers, offensive linemen, and linebackers fit the Saints draft prototypes and could be selected if the Saints invest at their positions? Why Treylon Burks, Drake London, and Christian Watson are the most comfortable fits, but Chris Olave and Garrett Wilson's sub 4.4 40 times at the NFL Combine could put them in conversation despite size thresholds.

Rachaad White of Arizona State and James Cook of Georgia the two best fits at running back if the Saints draft one in this year's draft. With a possible Alvin Kamara suspension looming, it might make sense to grab insurance in the draft.

The New Orleans Saints have the ability to set their franchise up for success in the 2022 NFL Draft by grabbing two starters right off the top in the first round. We break down seven mock drafts that show how the Saints can approach their opportunity to change the game in the 2022 NFL season.

Jameson WIlliams and Chris Olave are at the top of the list of wide receiver targets for the Saints, but if landing Charles Cross means changing course to Jahan Dotson, New Orleans would be in outstanding shape.

Why Trevor Penning is a better selection than Bernhard Raimann and which running back is the absolute best fir for the team. How trading up early and down late could net Jeff Ireland and Mickey Loomis some big hits.

If the New Orleans Saints want to load up on starters at the top of this year's NFL Draft, trading back could be a creative way to do it. Since 2007, the Saints haven't done it, but this year's depth at key positions could change the trend.

Roman Harper, Jahri Evans, and Usama Young were trade back wins for the Saints back in 2006 and 2007, this year, the team could win by moving back again.

Opening the draft at 16 with a top prospect like Trevor Penning, Jameson Williams or Chris Olave would maximize their opportunity to move back from 19 and target other potential starters like Jaquan Brisker, Bernhard Raimann, and others. They could even walk away with a quarterback like Desmond Ridder without losing capital at other premium positions of need.

The New Orleans Saints are in need of a difference maker at wide receiver in this year's NFL Draft. Should we be talking more about Penn State wideout Jahan Dotson? We think so, as a dynamic and explosive prospect, he could be a sneaky good add at the end of day one or early in day two of the Draft.

Dotson leads off the top 25 of day two along with other prospects like Tariq Woolen, Jalen Pitre, David Ojabo, Sam Howell, Matt Corral and draft sleepers like Abraham Lucas, Kaiir Elam, and Joshua Williams.

Would the Saints invest in a cornerback in Day two if the price was right? As a premium position, much like quarterback, the Saints should always be looking.
