Locked On Saints - Daily Podcast On The New Orleans Saints

NFL roster cuts have finally come and gone as teams set their initial 53-man rosters. For the New Orleans Saints, this is only the start of the team-building process ahead of week one against the Green Bay Packers. On today's Locked On Saints, Ross breaks down the initial 53 and the moves to expect going forward.

Will the Saints send any of the multiple injured reserve candidates to IR like Adam Trautman, Nick Vannett, or Wil Lutz? Will they pursue a different kicker off of waivers with Jake Verity having been waived? The linebacker room is a little crowded with both Chase Hansen and Andrew McDowell making the cut, could that decision be indicative of Kwon Alexander's availability early in the season? So many questions to ask, but some good news to celebrate with fan-favorites Tony Jones Jr, and Juwan Johnson making the roster.

Sean Payton also had some big news to drop on Tuesday. The Saints have officially announced Jameis Winston as their starting quarterback and what Taysom Hill's role will look like in the 2021 NFL season. The team also looks to heard to TCU, where many players have Louisiana roots, to continue their practice week in preparation to open their season as a currently undisclosed location with the Cesars Superdome currently not being an option.

The New Orleans Saints have already made some tough decisions with some notable roster cuts. But in the cases of Alex Armah, Easop Winston, and Kawann Baker, no doesn't mean never. How the roster rules work and could benefit the Saints as they look to potentially add players like Wil Lutz, Michael Thomas, Tre'Quan Smith, and Adam Trautman to injured reserve.

There have already been some notable roster moves that impact the New Orleans Saints. Could they look to reunite Jameis Winston and Breshad Perriman? And one key roster move that keeps the Saints from addressing a premiere position.

The Saints could be on the move for the first regular season game of the 2021 season against the Green Bay Packer, but out west won't be the solution. Sean Payton discusses potential options for the team. Meanwhile, more roster cuts are expected. Which to look out for within and outside of the organization.

The New Orleans Saints, like many of their community have relocated in the midst of Hurricane Ida. Here's their plan while in Dallas, TX and what happens moving forward.

The Saints have to cut their rosters down to 53 by 4pm ET on Tuesday the 31st. We're projecting the initial 53 in our final roster prediction episode. Tony Jones Jr, Chase Hansen vs. Andrew McDowell, cornerback #2. Jameis Winston will need targets to throw to, which wide receivers can hold down a roster spot and contribute behind Marquez Callaway. Marshon Lattimore is looking for a new deal, can the Saints make it happen before Week 1? Growing expectation on suspensions for Deonte Harris and Lattimore could change the direction of the roster even after it's initially set. Michael Thomas's injury could be a factor, too along with Adam Trautman and Nick Vannett.

So many big storylines around this team. We break it down to provide you some solace in what might be a tough day.

The New Orleans Saints naming Jameis Winston their starting quarterback was the right choice to make. Locked On Saints host Ross Jackson breaks down why the decision was made, what Winston showed on and off the field to edge out Taysom Hill, and why Mike Martz wasn't just visiting for a cafe au lait.

What does Jameis Winston at quarterback mean for Alvin Kamara, Marquez Callaway, the offensive line, and Taysom Hill? It's not just about who takes the snaps, there are several big pieces that are impacted by the quarterback selection. Here's an introduction as to what Sean Payton and the gang can now do.

Saturday's preseason game against the Arizona Cardinals has moved to Noon CT in preparation of Hurricane Ida. Winston might have won his job, but other players are fighting for positioning and roster spots during this game. Can Kevin White get right? Will Pete Werner or Kwon Alexander see the field? Marcus Davenport's development this offseason has been remarkable, one more chance to display how much he's grown. And many more players jostling for positioning along the New Orleans Saints depth chart ahead of Tuesday's final roster cut down.

Today's Locked On Saints walks through the performances of Jameis Winston, Taysom Hill, Marquez Callaway, Paulson Adebo, and more after an in-depth film study.

Though both quarterbacks had very good moment, the key differences between Jameis Winston and Taysom Hill on full display on tape. Breaking down both of Winston and Callaway's big touchdowns, Taysom Hill's touchdown and more key moments.

Marquez Callaway is on the verge of a special season and one area of Lil'Jordan Humphery's game continues to stand out. Callaway has the talent, opportunity, and the support of an offense that wants to attack deep. A perfect formula for a huge season following a very impressive offseason thus far.

With Ken Crawley sidelined over the next couple of weeks, the door is left ajar for Paulson Adebo to possibly walk through. The outstanding play of safeties Marcus Williams, Malcolm Jenkins, and C.J. Gardner-Johnson (Ceedy Duce) help to alleviate potential concerns around a young CB2 and Adebo has the traits and physicality to step up.

Knowing what happened during Monday's win is important, but host Ross Jackson breaks down how it all came together.

The New Orleans Saints had to make five roster moves in order to be compliant with the NFL's 80-man roster limit before Tuesday afternoon. They moved three players, DL Jalen Dalton, OL Ethan Greenidge, and CB Brian Poole to injured reserve while waiving punter Nolan Cooney and waived-injured LB Marcus Willoughby. But while there are 80 players on the Saints' roster, several players continue to be unavailable like WR Tre'Quan Smith and rookie edge rusher Payton Turner

While their injuries are not expected to be serious, their absences combined with recent injuries to Ken Crawley and Adam Trautman feel a bit precarious. However, rookie LB Pete Werner is back in action at practice and some better news than expected in regards to Marshon Lattimore's offseason arrest may be on the way.

WWL-TV Sports Director Doug Mouton joins Locked On Saints host Ross Jackson to discuss whether or not Jameis Winston did enough to win the QB battle on Monday night, how special Marquez Callaway's offseason has been, and the unique opportunity that awaits rookie corner Paulson Adebo.

The New Orleans Saints quarterback battle has been raging all offseason and it finally looks like there might be a winner. Though head coach Sean Payton was reluctant to name a starter in the Big Easy following the Saints' 23-21 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars, there was one performance that could not be denied on Monday night. Jameis Winston put on a show with the help of second-year receiver Marquez Callaway to the tune of two touchdown connections. Winston was efficient throwing 9/10 for 123 yards as well. Meanwhile, Taysom Hill looked to struggle until showing a little bit more comfort in a late hurry-up game situation.

Taysom Hill added a touchdown of his own, but it might have been too little too late. While the quarterbacks battled it out, a key piece of the Saints offense was hurt and could miss time. Saints tight end Adam Trautman was carted off the field with an apparent foot or ankle injury. X-rays came back negative, but a Tuesday MRI will reveal more information.

Locked On Saints host Ross Jackson also breaks down what performances stood out on Monday night for better or for worse.

All signs pointed to this Monday's matchup with the Jacksonville Jaguars being a pivotal point in the New Orleans Saints quarterback battle between Taysom Hill and Jameis Winston. Now, according to reports, it seems all but confirmed that the team would like to settle this competition before the preseason Week 3 matchup with the Arizona Cardinals. Here's what each Jameis Winston and Taysom Hill will need to do to leave no doubt in their claim to the starting position.

On offense, the New Orleans Saints won't just be looking at the QB battle, the wide receivers the signal callers will be throwing to are in flux, the running backs behind them are fighting for positioning behind NFL top-100 player Alvin Kamara, and the offensive line will be looking to solidify its second unit while the rest of the NFL struggles to find depth.

On defense, the Saints will look to figure out their second cornerback opposite Marshon Lattimore. Paulson Adebo and Ken Crawley battle it out for one for the most premier positions on the team. Meanwhile, Zack Baun hopes to follow up an impressive performance in the first preseason game and training camp with another standout outing. Same for Marcus Davenport, who is turning heads this offseason.

On today's Locked On Saints, host Ross Jackson knows how important it is for the leading actor to be on stage for a final dress rehearsal. If the New Orleans Saints truly intend to treat the third preseason game this year as they would in a four-game preseason, they should have their starting quarterback selected, even if only internally in time for his final rehearsal. The playbook, the communication, and the success of the team could be better off with a clear vision as soon as possible.

Then, Ross takes questions from the Locked On Saints Facebook Group and YouTube comments. The Saints still don't have a kicker, the production of the defensive line shouldn't make you worry about the offensive line, the biggest surprises of camp, the biggest disappointment, and why UDFA rookie has the best chance to make the Saints' roster are all discussed along with much more.

Camp Day 16 notes have some standout performances from new and returning players. Newly signed WR Kevin White catches a touchdown pass in his first day, Tre'Quan Smith makes several plays in his return, and Marcus Williams walks off with another camp interception. Meanwhile, each Jameis Winston and Taysom Hill continue their up and down performances.

The New Orleans Saints will have some tough decisions to make as they are set to make another five-player cut after Monday's matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars. But the next week, they'll be looking to get down to the regular season 53-man roster. On the offensive side, Tony Jones Jr. threatens veteran running backs Latavius Murray and Devonta Freeman for a spot. The wide receiver room continues to shed players and add new players. Kevin White tries to revitalize his career with Sean Payton.

On the defensive side, the Saints' linebacker unit has gone from massive concern to one of the team's most solid units. Chase Hansen and Andrew Dowell fight for spots behind Demario Davis, Kwon Alexander, Zack Baun and more. Meanwhile the cornerback spot opposite Marshon Lattimore still hangs in the balance. Ken Crawley and Paulson Adebo look like the most logical choices, however new faces and young players still need to fill out the depth. The interior defensive line took some bumps and bruises over the offseason, and the players that are filling the gap are only partially those we expected as Jalen Dalton and Christian Ringo continue to ascend and Shy Tuttle heads down the camp depth chart.
