Locked On Saints - Daily Podcast On The New Orleans Saints

The New Orleans Saints claimed a statement win in Foxborough against the New England Patriots, but lost a yet another key player for extended time after star tackle Terron Armstead suffered an elbow injury. Armstead is expected to miss three to six weeks and thus could go to injured reserve. Expect James Hurst to step into his role in his stead.

While the Saints may be adding another name to IR, five players are now eligible to return, depending on their injury recovery. Wil Lutz and Tre'Quan Smith could be two important players making their way back to the active roster in the coming weeks. Nick Vannet, Will Clapp, and Ken Crawley could all be of great value as well.

The Saints are finally back in the Big Easy and excited to get back to their long-awaited Caesars Superdome opener. This will be the first fully-attended New Orleans Saints game since the January 5th, 2020 playoff exit against the Minnesota Vikings. The Who Dat Nation is ready to make some noise and a top-5 NFL defense will be ready for their help.

The Saints knocked the Patriots down some key efficiency rankings on the offensive side. However, the Saints and Giants are evenly matched on offensive efficiency so for this season. The difference? The Saints will be facing the Giants 28th ranked defense in terms of efficiency while New York may struggle to topple the 2nd ranked unit in New Orleans. This could be a good opportunity for the Saints offense to kick into gear.

But the biggest reason for this highly ranked Saints team comes down to the stars on the defense. Marshon Lattimore, Demario Davis, Marcus Williams, and others have led the way to start the season allowing only 14 points per game.

The New Orleans Saints embrace their new identity in bounce-back win against the New England Patriots on the road. Getting back key contributors on defense like Marshon Lattimore, C.J. Gardner-Johnson, and Tanoh Kpassagnon payed dividends for the Saints as they piled on 11 QB hits, two sacks, and three interceptions.

The stars of this game weren't limited to the defense though with 100+ scrimmage yards from Alvin Kamara in a ground attack that proved relentless against the Patriots front seven. The Saints pulled together a key drive late to put the game away before. game-sealing interception erased a possible late score.

On today's Locked On Saints, host Ross Jackson breaks down the biggest moments and key contributors, hands out gameballs for each phase of the game, and dives into the Saints' new identity and why they should continue to embrace it as the teams gets healthier and more in-rhythm as the season progresses.

The New Orleans Saints are elevating WR Kenny Stills and C Austin Reiter. Though Reiter will likely be an emergency option at his position, the expectation is that Stills' highly-anticipated return to New Orleans will lead to him seeing playing time. How much will he factor in and how much does his play style match the Saints' current offense?

Locked On Saints listeners also sent in a ton of questions for the bonus episode. Does the Saints' current playstyle limit Jameis Winston? Will Marquez Callaway get going? Will Taysom Hill be more involved this week?

On the defensive side, a healthy Pete Werner could mean a short leash for Zack Baun who's transitioning to off-ball linebacker. Meanwhile, the Saints continue to get healtier on defense with Marshon Lattimore and C.J. Gardner-Johnon returning after missing last week's action and Tanoh Kpassagnon and Payton Turner on pace to be available as well.

The New Orleans Saints will look to bounce back in Week 3 against the New England Patriots following a disappointing loss to the Carolina Panthers last week.

On the offensive side, a big day from star running back Alvin Kamara would go a long way against a Patriots defense that gave up more than 4.9 yards per carry to the New York Jets in Week 2. Saints quarterback Jameis Winston and the offense line which struggled last week will be looking to improve upon their Week 2 performances as well.

With any rookie quarterback, pressure is key. The Saints will look to pressure Mac Jones and limit his safety nets throughout the offense. New Orleans will hope to return both Marshon Lattimore and C.J. Garner-Johnson for this matchup. Both of which would play large roles in the success of the Saints this weekend.

WWL-TV's Ricardo LeCompte joins to discuss where New Orleans will improve heading into Week 3, why the maturation of Jameis Winston is important, and which players recovering from injury could have the biggest impact against the Patriots.

While the New Orleans Saints are trying to get key players like Marshon Lattimore, Erik McCoy, C.J. Gardner-Johnson and other star players back to the field, the New England Patriots are trying to figure out who they are with rookie quarterback Mac Jones.

As the Patriots and Saints work to find success post-hall of fame quarterbacks, Bill Belichick and Sean Payton's paths cross early in the 2021 season. On today's Locked On Saints, Ross Jackson is joined by Mike D'Abate of Locked On Patriots to preview this weekend's matchup.

The Patriots will hope to have their star pass rusher Matthew Judon back and the Saints will look to improve from a disappointing result in Charlotte as their coaching staff and player personnel get back to health. Keys in this game will include the Saints run game with Alvin Kamara, the both team's struggling offensive lines, and Mac Jones vs. Jameis Winston.

The New Orleans Saints were without nine starters in Sunday's loss against the Carolina Panthers. Which starters were missed the most? There's reasonable argument for Michael Thomas, Kwon Alexander, and Marshon Lattimore. But two 2019 draft steals could have made a huge difference in the results of the loss.

Center Erik McCoy and defensive back C.J. Gardner-Johnson both would have held roles and responsibilities integral to the team's success in Charlotte. The exotic looks and blitz packages from the Carolina front, McCoy has seen before along with Drew Brees. The task of shutting down Christian McCaffrey is easy for no defender, but Gardner-Johnson was said to be a big part of the Saints' game plan in that arena.

In today's Locked On Saints, host Ross Jackson delves into the the changes the team had to make without these key players, what struggles their absences created, and where the outlook gets better moving forward.

Additionally, which injuries from last week's reports to keep an eye on this week and how a restructure of wide receiver Tre'Quan Smith's contract signifies the possible return to the field for a familiar face at wideout.

The New Orleans Saints draft history has been a long line of success in recent years and now the Saints look to have done it again after a stellar debut by rookie defensive end Payton Turner. Just one week after a strong outing by rookie cornerback Paulson Adebo, the Saints look to be on to something yet again. And just in time with Marshon Lattimore and Marcus Davenport missing time, the young defenders have valiantly stepped in during one of the most challenging starts to a season an NFL franchise has seen.

Turner's four pressures, seven run stops and three tackles for a loss jump off the stat sheet, but his ability to maintain composure after a rough start and array of pass rushing moves are what stood out most about the young pass rusher. Adebo displays the same level of confidence and short memory as the Saints secondary has yet to allow a pass of 20+ air yards to be completed.

Some numbers, good and bad, help tell the story of the Saints' Week 2 loss in context around the NFL. On today's Locked On Saints Ross Jackson breaks down the play-by-play efficiency produced and surrendered by the Saints. The bad news, the offense took a big hit against the Panthers, but the good news is that the defense is still ranking highly. Meanwhile, the relentless Panthers pass rush threw the Saints off of several pieces of their Jameis Winston-led identity.

The New Orleans Saints took on a big loss to the Carolina Panthers on Sunday and while there were several possible explanations, the team is not going to allow excuses within the facility. What happened and why as the Saints offense fell apart in Charlotte, why benching Jameis Winston does not make this team better, and what the most important next step is for the New Orleans Saints are all discussed on today's episode of Locked On Saints.

No Kwon Alexander, Marshon Lattimore, nor C.J. Gardner-Johnson created unique issues for New Orleans defense along with the complications of replacing starting center Erik McCoy without offensive line coaches in the building. Some issues will self-correct as availability improves, but there are still lessons to take from this loss.

The New Orleans Saints have one overarching question that could limit their success against the Carolina Panthers: what will they do about their impacted availability? Marshon Lattimore, Erik McCoy, Marcus Davenport, Tanoh Kpassagnon, Kwon Alexander, C.J. Gardner-Johnson and more are all facing injuries on the player side. Not including the Sean Payton being down several members of his coaching staff. How will he, Jameis Winston, Demario Davis, and some of the other leaders of this New Orleans Saints team navigate the adversity and put together a winning gameplan in Charlotte? Three keys to victory on each side of the ball to watch as the Saints head in to their division matchup.

The New Orleans Saints and Carolina Panthers are set to meet in Charlotte on Sunday. The deep ball is back for both teams with Jameis Winston and Sam Darnold, but their offensive lines will be tasked with keeping them clean. Robby Anderson, DJ Moore, and Terrace Marshall present unique challenges for the Saints secondary and Marcus Williams will be a key piece with Marshon Lattimore expected to miss this game after thumb surgery. Christian McCaffrey and Alvin Kamara are two of the best multi-purpose backs in the NFL and Sean Payton and Joe Brady have two of the best systems for their skillset. Those two will battle it out against two young and talented defenses, but injuries and unavailability could be the Saints' downfall in this NFC South matchup. However, Locked On Saints host Ross Jackson is confident head coach Sean Payton will once again come out swinging when backed up against a wall and facing unique adversity.
