What it means for the Saints and Michael Thomas and what happens next.

With camp week 2 in the bag and days 8 and 9 wrapped up, we can take a look at position of need across the New Orleans Saints roster and track the performance of those competing at the most important spots.

On the offensive side the quarterbacks can't seem to fully separate, but that might be better news for Taysom Hill than Jameis Winston. How preseason games will factor into their next steps. A deeper look at the WR position and camp standouts Marquez Callaway, Jalen McCleskey, and Chris Hogan and how Adam Trautman is looking now that he's finding his rhythm.

As for the defense, the line might be the best performing unit of Saints camp. Even though the offensive line has looked just as good, there's been no denying the pass rush looks great on Airline. Can they carry it all over to the regular season? How rookie cornerback Paulson Adebo has made a name for himself playing all over the secondary, and the standout young linebackers that could make a difference in 2021.

Kwon Alexander makes his return to the New Orleans Saints roster, Ethan Wolf out with injury, Jake Pederson in for a visit, and more shuffles along the roster. Plus more news you need to know around Saints camp.

The New Orleans Saints are now just about two weeks through camp and the quarterback competition is still a tight one. On Today's Locked On Saints, Ross Jackson breaks down where each position of need is, and who has been performing well in those important roles. From Paulson Adebo and Ken Crawley to Payton Turner and Marcus Davenport, so many young players continue to make their names names.

Even though the QB battle is taking tine to separate, the Saints have some areas where they have been performing above expectation. One of those spots is the cornerback position where many like to diminish due to the available wide receivers. Here's why diminishing the corners on their matchups isn't an accurate depiction of the traits and positive play the DBs have shown.

The New Orleans Saints were back outside for Training Camp Day 6. On today's episode of Locked On Saints, Ross Jackson highlights the biggest stories including Keith Washington headed to injured reserve, the signing of Adonis Alexander, absences, and the first interception thrown by Jameis Winston in team drills. What's next as these QBs continue to look neck-and-neck in competition?

Starting on the offensive side, players like Ian Book, Cesar Ruiz, and Adam Trautman have good days. But in terms of the most impressive offensive player on day six, Jalen McCleskey takes the cake.

As for the defensive side, it's the young players again that are on the rise. Paulson Adebo, Payton Turner, Carl Granderson and more young defenders put on a show at Saints Camp day 6 with three interceptions combined in one-on-ones and team drills.

The New Orleans Saints return a fan favorite in linebacker Kwon Alexander. After less than eight months of recovery from his achilles injury, a nearly miraculous timeline, the athletic linebackers makes his return to the Big Easy. On a one-year deal worth up to $3 million, incentives are likely to be tied to playing time and performance. The Saints get away with a steal here getting Alexander back at no less than a $10 million discount from his original 2021 price tag.

But what does this mean for the young linebackers on the Saints roster? 2021 Second-round rookie Pete Werner, 2020 third-round selection Zack Baun, and more young linebackers have done their best to pick up the Saints defense as quickly as possible and have no disappointed in camp thus far. Does Kwon Alexander slot in ahead of them? Or could they still topple the returning second-level playmaker.

It will take a couple days before we see Kwon Alexander on the practice field, but with the fifth day of Saints training camp in the bag, there are a couple of important stories to follow. Wide receiver Tre'Quan Smith and cornerback Keith Washington both left practice early. Jameis Winston and Taysom Hill had down days with pads going on for the first time. Now to see who bounces back on Wednesday.

The New Orleans Saints add some veterans to their roster with the signings of Prince Amukamara, KeiVarae Russell, and JR Sweezy. Adding experience to a cornerback spot hanging in the balance an an offensive line that has a steep drop off when it comes to playing time after James Hurst. In order to make room for these signings, New Orleans needed to create roster space with three corresponding transactions, moving on from Lorenzo Neal Jr, and Lawrence Woods and sending Dylan Soehner to injured reserve.

Sean Payton and the gang kicked off Week 2 of Training Camp with a big day from Jameis Winston. Though both Jameis and Taysom Hill pushed the ball downfield on Monday, Hill clocked in some turnover-worthy plays. But there's more to be seen as neither QB has committed a turnover in camp.

It's not just about the quarterbacks at Saints camp, there are several players that continue to stand out throughout practices so far. Alvin Kamara and Marshon Lattimore look like the stars they have been since being drafted together in 2017. But young players like Marquez Callaway and more continue to make their mark.

The New Orleans Saints go bargain shopping in free agency better than just about any team in the NFL and now they land former Pro Bowl running back Devonta Freeman. But with Alvin Kamara, Latavius Murray, Ty Montgomery and more young options competing in the backfield, where does he fit in and what does it mean for the others? If Ty Montgomery is spending his time at wide receiver as we expect, Freeman and special teams ace Dwayne Washington could be set to battle it out for the rights to the third running back spot.

The Saints are also expected to sign veteran cornerback Prince Amukamara and 2016 third-round pick KeiVarae Russell pending physicals. If they land with the Saints, two corresponding moves will have to be made to open up the roster spots. More low-risk moves by New Orleans as they look at several options to try to sure up the cornerback depth chart. Does Amukamara have a chance at CB2? Meanwhile it's special teams that may give Russell a chance to land a roster spot.

Finally, Taysom Hill has focused entirely on competing for the starting quarterback role in New Orleans. What happens if he doesn't win it? He's spoken openly about shifts in his workout regiment, targeting different muscle groups for the role, and slimming down as well. But if he doesn't knock off Jameis Winston, what could that mean for his Swiss-army knife role? Locked On Saints host Ross Jackson discusses how the role could shift including where he might no longer be deployed and where the new build could also help as an offensive weapon.

Taysom Hill and Jameis Winston are set to battle it out in New Orleans Saints Training Camp for the right to be Drew Brees's successor. Taysom Hill has gotten the early first team reps over the first two days of camp, but Jameis Winston is set to rotate in soon. both quarterbacks have been efficient but mechanics, passing depth, decision-making and much more continue to be under a microscope as the Saints look for their starting QB ahead of the 2021 NFL season.

On the defensive side, Patrick Robinson looks to be ahead at the second cornerback spot opposite Marshon Lattimore, meanwhile the newly signed Brian Poole takes on a key depth role. The linebackers Zack Baun and Pete Werner continue to rotate next to Demario Davis and the defensive line is already producing some standouts including Noah Spence and an early look at first-round draft pick Payton Turner.

As Saints camp continues, pads are set to come on at the top of next week. On Saturday, they'll be back in helmets and shells with fans expected to be in attendance. Some veterans are already starting to stand out, including newly signed wide receiver Chris Hogan, but which experienced player will continue to separate themselves as the young guys get their bearings?

As New Orleans Saints training camp kicks off, day one packed a ton of excitement. The race to be the Saints' starting quarterback in 2021 is kicking into high gear. Both Jameis Winston and Taysom Hill made some big plays, but Jameis still found a way to separate himself. According to WWL Sports Director Doug Mouton, he didn't just do it with his arm.

New Orleans will be looking for their young WR talent to step up. All eyes are on Tre'Quan Smith and Marquez Callaway as the Saints prepare to open the season potentially without the dominant Michael Thomas or All-Pro returner/wideout Deonte Harris.

On the defensive side, Saints fans get their early hints at what the Saints are considering at cornerback, linebacker, and on the defensive interior.

While it is hard to base anything certain off of day one, some players just jump off the field immediately. Second-year tight end Adam Trautman has the opportunity of a lifetime ahead of him and it looks like he's ready to seize the moment.

New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton and General Manager Mickey Loomis address Saints media in a press conference on Wednesday, training camp eve. Today, we discuss the biggest takeaways from availability including more on the Michael Thomas surgery situation, cornerback remaining a "must", and more on the Saints' health and safety percentages and how they feel about the WR room.

Sean Payton says the Saints will "work through" losing Michael Thomas to open the season with the guys they have in the building. But one of those guys, Deonte Harris, was arrested on suspicion of a DUI earlier this month, meaning the options are continuing to thin to open the 2021 NFL season if he faces suspension like PJ Williams did in 2019. How Jalen McCleskey, Kawaan Baker, Tre'Quan Smith, and Marquez Callaway step up will be incredibly important to the Saints early season success. Also, watch out for UDFA CB Lawrence Woods at the returner spot if Harris is unavailable to start Weeks one and two.

And finally, breaking down the recent additions of Chris Hogan and Kendall Donnerson, a look at those not available to start camp beyond Michael Thomas including PJ Williams and Wil Lutz, and how serious those situations are.

Host Ross Jackson wraps up with a rapid-fire recap of every story you need to know as training camp kicks off on Airline today.

Ross Jackson and Dylan Sanders of Canal Street Chronicles preview New Orleans Saints training camp with some fun superlatives including best camp standout, best rookie, biggest highlight, and more.

On the offensive side, Saints rookie WR Kawaan Baker looks primed to beckon the spotlight at Saints camp. With size, speed, and athleticism, he checks all the boxes at a position that will get a ton of attention. QB Jameis Winston and WRs Marquez Callaway and Deonte Harris have the firepower to make explosive plays on Airline Drive and UDFA running back Stevie Scott could barrel his way on to the scene.

Turning the page to defense, all eyes will be on the cornerback position. That could mean good things for second-year UDFA corner Keith Washington II who could be the sleeper selection to make the roster and round out a position of need. After at least six interceptions in last year's camp, a repeat performance could turn him into a camp MVP this year. Meanwhile, a rookie UDFA defensive lineman, Josiah Bronson, will be looking to make good on his reps in practice as well while the Saints are looking for answer on the interior defensive line.

For the first time in 10+ seasons, the Saints will be fielding a new punter. With Thomas Morstead out, the spot looks to be Blake Gillikin's, but Syracuse rookie Nolan Cooney won't make it easy. Meanwhile, Kaden Elliss is in line for a huge special teams role with Craig Robertson leaving in free agency as well. Some important turnover on special teams after several key losses set in this offseason.
