Locked On Stars - Daily Podcast On The Dallas Stars

On Monday night, the Dallas Stars made a trade for New York Rangers defenseman Nils Lundkvist. The 22-year-old right-hander has only 25 games of NHL experience, but he has plenty of offensive upside that he can provide to the Dallas Stars roster in need of defensive depth. Jon Chik from Locked on New York Rangers joins the show to talk about the trade as well as what we can expect from Lundkvist on the ice.

We also talk about the Dallas Stars official training camp roster, which features Jason Robertson. Does this mean anything? When can we expect to see Robo FINALLY sign a new deal with the Stars?

To close we discuss Nathan MacKinnon's MASSIVE new deal (worth $12.6 million AAV) and what it means for the Avs and the central division. We also discuss three notable NHL retirement announcements from Zdeno Chara, PK Subban & Keith Yandle

Today we close out our central division preview series with Josh Hyman, the host of Locked on St. Louis Blues. Unlike the Dallas Stars, the Blues had a much easier time re-signing their young studs in Robert Thomas and Jordan Kyrou. How important are those two players to the success of the Blues this season? Are they expected to take on bigger leadership roles? What are the expectations for veterans Vlad Tarasenko and Ryan O'Reilly? Will they sign extensions with the Blues? How is Blues country feeling about Jordan Binnington going into the new season?

Today we take look around the NHL to see who is at fault for Jason Robertson STILL being unsigned with the Dallas Stars. While you can certainly look to the Dallas Stars front office for not having a ton of cap space, you can also look around the nHL at other young forwards signing 7-8 year deals worth 7-8 million dollars AAV. Guys like Tim Stützle, Tage Thompson and Jordan Kyrou all have new deals and it likely is making Robertson's camp want as much if not more money than them. We also discuss Wyatt Johnston and Logan Stankoven's performances at the Traverse City prospect tournament as well as Rick Bowness' situation in Winnipeg and why it should make Stars fans more appreciative.

Today Dane talks with Seth Toupal of Locked on Minnesota Wild to discuss both teams offseason moves as well as expectations for 2022-2023. The Wild are without young stud Kevin Fiala (now in Los Angeles), and there is a vacancy for Kirill Kaprizov’s “sidekick.” What does the Wild goalie situation look like and how confident should the team be in their current projected tandem? What should the expectations be for Jason Roberson’s new contract when you take into account the contracts of players like Kirill Kaprizov, Tim Stützle and Tage Thompson?

We start off by talking about the Dallas Stars and the "mood" surrounding the hire of Pete DeBoer, and if he is the one who can revive the careers of Tyler Seguin and Jamie Benn. We also dive into the Predators offseason moves and whether or not they are a better team than they were a year ago. Was it surprising to see Filip Forsberg re-sign with Nashville? How impactful will Nino Niederreiter and Ryan Mcdonagh be with their new team? To end, we talk about which team is better, and which one is primed for a top three finish in the central division standings.

On Thursday afternoon, the Dallas Stars announced a new three-year deal for goaltender Jake Oettinger worth $12 million ($4 million AAV). Oettinger had a great 2021-2022 season and played great against the Calgary Flames in round one of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. What does his deal mean for the Stars? What does it mean for Jason Robertson and his contract negotiations? We also discuss Stars owner Tom Gaglardi and his recent comments on the Cam and Strick podcast. Why should the Dallas Stars pay Jason Robertson what he wants? Why should he (and other Stars executives) take a different approach to discussing Tyler Seguin and Jamie Benn in public?
