Locked On Stars - Daily Podcast On The Dallas Stars

Today, Dane is joined by a very special guest. Jonathon Shipman (AKA Shippy) is the in-house DJ for Dallas Stars at the American Airlines Center. On today’s episode we talk about Shippy’s journey to working for the Stars. We dive deep into his love for sports, and discuss the fact that Dallas is slowly becoming a hockey town. There’s also plenty of music chatter as Dane and Shippy talk about the best sing-a-long songs at Stars games.

On today's mailbag episode, we talk about the success of former Dallas Star Valeri Nichushkin in the Stanley Cup Playoffs with the Colorado Avalanche. Should we be happy for him having a great run with a division rival after failing to take off as a star player in Dallas? Is Scott Wedgewood a good option as second string goalie for the Stars going forward? Which Stars prospects are ready to make the jump and debut in the NHL in 2022-2023?

Today we explore another potential trade acquisition for the Dallas Stars by visiting the Bay Area to talk about defenseman Brent Burns. JD Young (host of Locked on SJ Sharks) joins the show to discuss what a Burns trade to Dallas could look like. Is Burns still capable of producing at a high level despite being 37 years old? Would he be a good fit in the Dallas Stars locker room? Could he be a good replacement for John Klingberg if he departs in the offseason? What would a trade package need to look like for Burns to come to Texas?

The free agent class for the incoming NHL offseason is loaded with talent. There are plenty of big names like Malkin, Gaudreau and Forsberg, but there are also plenty of lesser-known players that could add some depth to the Dallas Stars and help take the roster to the next level. Today we talk about what it would look like for Rickard Rakell, Frank Vatrano and Ben Chiarot to join the Dallas Stars. All of these guys would be relatively cheap pick-ups and have plenty to offer to any NHL team. What would be benefits of adding these players? Where could they fit on the Stars roster? Are there any red flags for any of these players that could prevent them from coming to Dallas?

The Dallas Stars organization had themselves a busy weekend. Ben Bishop was traded to the Buffalo Sabres for future considerations. This was a necessity for the Stars as they have an extra $5 million in cap space to re-sign players like Jake Oettinger and Jason Robertson. Will Dallas be able to utilize their cap space effectively this summer? We also discuss the success of Mavrik Bourque in the QMJHL. Bourque was the recent recipient of the Guy Lafleur trophy which is awarded to the MVP of the QMJHL postseason MVP. Will he be ready to make the jump to the NHL sometime in the next season? Lastly, we discuss some predictions for the Stanley Cup Finals. Will the Colorado Avalanche be able to take down the back-to-back champion Tampa Bay Lightning?

We’re back today with more hypotheticals. What would it look like if the Dallas Stars looked to add some of the biggest names from this past NHL season to their roster? Alex DeBrincant has flown under the radar in Chicago, would he be able to lift the Dallas Stars to the next level offensively? Kevin Fiala had his best season with Minnesota, but is seeking a new contract. Could Dallas be a good fit for him? Who would he fit best with? David Pastrnak could be looking to move on from a Bruins organization that seems to be going down the drain. Could he be Joe Pavelski’ newest protege and even replace him later on?

Marc Savard is currently coaching Wyatt Johnston in the OHL playoffs and has recently emerged as a favorite for the head coaching job for the Dallas Stars. Today, Dane is joined by Ryan Chambers of Starcastic Remarks to discuss what a team coached by Savard would look like. How much would his connection with Tyler Seguin factor into the decision? Would Dallas be an easier place to coach than Boston? Who are some other probable candidates to come in and coach the Stars?

On Tuesday, the Dallas Stars announced that 25-year-old forward Denis Gurianov signed a 1-year extension worth $2.9 million. It seems that Gurianov is getting one last shot to prove himself with to the Dallas front office. He has shown great offensive capabilities in the past, but those performances are spread out too far. In the OHL, Stars 2021 1st round pick Wyatt Johnston was awarded the Red Tilson trophy which is given to the most outstanding OHL player during the regular season. Johnston is also helping his Windsor Spitfires fight for the OHL title against the Hamilton Bulldogs.
