Locked On Stars - Daily Podcast On The Dallas Stars

Coming into this season, Denis Gurianov was a guy that seemed destined to fully reveal himself to the NHL world as a legit star (pun FULLY intended). While there were certainly some great moments from Denis, he left a lot to be desired from his 2021-2022 campaign. Denis never found a true home on the roster and was placed on just about every line with a weird variety of other players. He was also a healthy scratch on many occasions, which gave us one of the oddest running storylines of the entire season. How much of Denis' struggles were of his own doing and how much blame should be assessed to the coaching staff? Will Gurianov stay in Dallas next season, or will he move on to a new city and team?

The trade market in the 2022 NHL offseason has plenty of big names to offer. Jakob Chychrun, J.T. Miller and Jake DeBrusk are all guys that could make a positive impact on any NHL roster, including the Dallas Stars. Today, we dive into the idea of acquiring these three players. How likely is it that any of them come to Dallas? What would be the pros and cons of adding any of these players to the roster? How much would the Stars have to give up? Would it be worth it?

Dallas Stars captain Jamie Benn had a very busy season. He carried the burden of being one of the biggest enforcers on the roster, accumulating 88 PIMs (most on the team). Jamie was certainly the leader on the ice for Dallas as he fought anyone who dared threaten him or his teammates. While this is admirable to some degree, there was still much to be desired from the captain this past season. His offense came in electric spurts, but those spurts were spread out too far apart. Jamie was one of many Stars who failed to deliver consistent secondary scoring. What does Jamie need to do in 2022-2023 in order to make him worth $9.5 million a season?

On Tuesday it was announced that Stars forward Alexander Radulov would be joining Ak Bars Kazan of the KHL. It appears his time as a Dallas Star has come to an end, and it leaves us time to reflect on the fun we had watching him in Dallas for the past 5 seasons in Dallas. His contagious energy and clutch playoff performances will be remembered by many for years to come. What does this move mean for the Dallas Stars as a franchise? We are witnessing a changing of the guard in Dallas. There is still plenty of veteran talent on the team, but they are slowly being overshadowed by the next generation. Is that a good thing? To close, we freak out over the epic game we saw in game 1 of the western conference finals between the Avalanche and Oilers.

Miro Heiskanen and Esa Lindell (with the rest of team Finland) won gold in the IIHF world championship against team Canada with a 4-3 OT win. Why is it so important for these Stars players to have these experiences? How does it benefit the individual players and franchise as a whole? We also take some time today to reflect on Jason Spezza’s brief stint in Dallas as he recently announced his retirement from the NHL a few days ago. To close, get Dane’s thoughts and predictions on the 2022 western Conference Finals. Will McDavid vs MacKinnon live up to the hype?

Tyler Seguin has always had high expectations placed upon him ever since he arrived in Dallas. For years, he delivered electric performances and was one of the best players on the Dallas Stars roster. In 2021-2022, Seguin was coming back fully healthy, and expectations were once again very high, but many may say his season was a disappointment. However, in the grand scheme of things, it is pretty miraculous Tyler scored 49 points despite his circumstances and became a key piece to the Stars roster as they pursued a playoff berth. However, there were some areas of his game that could have used some improvement. What can Tyler do to improve this offseason and what will his role be on the team next season?

John Klingberg had one of the most intriguing seasons of anyone on the Dallas Stars roster in 2021-2022. Many will claim that he underperformed, but the numbers show us that he may have been more effective than we think. Walk with Dane today as we look at what Klinger did well this season. He continued to anchor the Dallas power play and help generate some quality chances for himself and his teammates. We will also discuss where John struggled this season and talk about areas that we wish could have shown more promise. We close out today's show by trying to determine what Klingberg's next season will look like. Will he be in Dallas, or will he be in another team's sweater on opening night.

The Dallas Stars have a vacancy at Head Coach and there are plenty of popular names on the market. Today, we look at three candidates that could become the next head coach of the Victory Green Gang. Pete DeBoer was recently fired from the Vegas Golden Knights despite making the playoffs 2/3 seasons as the Knights leader. Barry Trotz has been compared to Rick Bowness due to similar coaching styles, but would that mean Trotz would be a good fit in Texas? Lastly, we take a look at Rick Tochett, who has some coaching experience in Tampa Bay and Arizona, but has recently gone back to working as a TV analyst. Would it be wise to hire someone with such little coaching experience?
