Locked On Texas Tech - Daily Podcast On Texas Tech Red Raiders Football & Basketball

Today from Lubbock, TX on Locked On Texas Tech: We discuss JT Toppin being named Big 12 Player of the Year, reflecting on his development throughout the season. Toppin's efficient play and unique skill set as a back-to-the-basket post player are highlighted as key factors in his success. The conversation then turns to other conference accolades. Darrion Williams and JT Toppin were named All-Big 12 First Team, while Chance McMillian made the Second Team. Christian Anderson received All-Freshman Team honors. We express frustration over Elijah Hawkins' omission from any All-Big 12 recognition, despite leading the conference in assists and being instrumental to Texas Tech's success. The exclusion is deemed particularly egregious given the expanded first team selections and inclusion of players from less successful teams. Join the Matador Mob today! Today from Lubbock, TX on Locked On Texas Tech: We discuss the upcoming Big 12 tournament and Texas Tech's prospects. With a double bye, the Red Raiders won't play until Thursday evening. We debate how hard to push in the tournament, given the taxing season and upcoming NCAA tournament. We analyze potential Big 12 Player of the Year and Coach of the Year candidates. For Player of the Year, JT Toppin is a strong contender, averaging 18 points and 9 rebounds with multiple 30+ point games. His main competition is likely LJ Cryer from Houston. For Coach of the Year, while Grant McCasland has exceeded expectations, Kelvin Sampson's 19-1 conference record with Houston may be hard to overlook. We note Texas Tech players like Chance McMillian, Darrion Williams and Christian Anderson could receive all-conference recognition. The Red Raiders' success this season has put multiple players in award conversations. Join the Matador Mob today! Your direct line to Casey & Chris via one-on-one texts straight to your phone. Today from Lubbock, TX on Locked On Texas Tech: We discuss wrapping up the regular season at United Supermarkets Arena with a comfortable win over Colorado. The Red Raiders secure their 23rd victory, clinching a top-3 Big 12 finish and a double bye in Kansas City. Grant McCasland's team continues building momentum, hitting 16 three-pointers while J.T. Toppin dominates with a 30-point, 14-rebound double-double. Looking ahead, we ponder if Texas Tech is playing its best basketball at the right time. While not necessarily peaking, the team's floor seems higher now. We note some minor injury concerns, like Federiko's wrapped knee, but McCasland reported no significant issues post-game. Today from Lubbock, TX on Locked On Texas Tech: We discuss the upcoming home finale for Grant McCasland and the Red Raiders against Colorado. The Buffaloes are struggling this season but have some quality wins. The game presents a mental challenge for the team to stay locked in against a weaker opponent. Colorado turns the ball over frequently and struggles to score, but they have size and will compete hard with nothing to lose. Their leading scorer Julian Hammond is questionable with a back injury. We also examine recent developments in the ACC, where a new uneven revenue distribution model has been approved. This likely signals major conference realignment in 4-5 years when exit fees decrease. The move opens up "Pandora's box" for other leagues to potentially adopt similar models based on viewership. While realignment talk may quiet down short-term, we believe massive changes are coming that will impact the entire college sports landscape, including Texas Tech and the Big 12. The next wave of realignment could be the biggest yet, potentially resulting in super conferences or an NFL-style model. Join the Matador Mob today! Today from Lubbock, TX on Locked On Texas Tech: We discuss the upcoming spring camp for Texas Tech and Coach Joey McGuire's approach. McGuire emphasizes the importance of physicality in spring practices, believing it helps prevent early-season injuries. He plans to have a spring game, but won't televise it to avoid potential tampering issues with agents scouting young players. We analyze Texas Tech's portal strategy, noting McGuire's focus on adding experienced players, especially on defense. Recent Big 12 win total projections from FanDuel have Texas Tech tied for the highest at 8.5 wins with Arizona State and Kansas State. We discuss the implications, noting that non-conference schedules can skew these totals. We emphasize that reaching the Big 12 championship game in Arlington is the ultimate goal, regardless of overall win total. Join the Matador Mob today! Today from Lubbock, TX on Locked On Texas Tech: We discuss the final week of the regular season for Texas Tech basketball and what's at stake. With wins over Houston and Kansas already, Texas Tech is in good position for NCAA tournament seeding. We analyze potential scenarios, noting that losses to Colorado or Arizona State this week would be damaging. A 2-0 week could potentially move Texas Tech up to a 2 or 3 seed. We examine bracketology projections and explain why Texas Tech's AP ranking doesn't necessarily align with their tournament seeding. The strong traveling fan base for Texas Tech in recent years is highlighted as a positive factor. We recall the challenging game against Arizona State earlier this season and how that experience should prevent overlooking them in the rematch. We also give a shoutout to track and field coach Wes Kittley for leading both the men's and women's teams to Big 12 indoor championships. The men won their third straight title while it was the first ever for the women. Join the Matador Mob today! Your direct line to Casey & Chris via one-on-one texts straight to your phone.
