Locked On Twins - Daily Podcast On The Minnesota Twins

Luis Castillo, a 28-year-old right-hander, has three years remaining in team control at an estimated $20 million. He has one of the most electric arms in baseball, frequently fooling hitters with a disgusting changeup and upper-90s fastball. Reports emerged that he may be available this winter. Should the Twins go after him? What's his upside? What would he cost?

Edwin Encarnación has terrorized the Twins (and Target Field) for his entire career. The end of that journey is near as he turns 38 in January, entering free agency for probably the final time. Does he make sense if Nelson Cruz isn't re-signed? Is Edwin "cooked"? Let's break down the numbers.

Miguel Sanó is an enigma to a lot of Twins fans. To some, it's simple. He strikes out too much or he's a premier power hitter. To others, it's more complicated. When he's on, he's a joy to watch. When not, it's ugly. Let's look at all of those points and viewpoints today against the numbers.

The Twins lost two prominent prospects during the Rule 5 draft last week. Akil Baddoo, a 22-year-old centerfielder, and Tyler Wells, a 26-year-old right-handed pitcher. Both players had Tommy John surgery in 2019. Plus, Bob Nightengale reports that MLB is shooting to start the season in May instead of April 1st.

MLB is over halfway through the offseason with most of the biggest additions still in the future. The Twins have, like most teams, barely made any moves. What spots do they need to fill again? Does former Cubs outfielder/DH Kyle Schwarber make sense in one of them?

A few days ago, the Twins signed SS/2B Tzu-Wei Lin to a Minor League deal. Lin will presumably start the 2021 season in St.Paul with the Saints. It's an interesting signing given that the Twins have a need for a utility player on their big league club. Lin has had some solid seasons in minors but little success with the Red Sox.

It's official: The St.Paul Saints are now the Triple-A affiliate of the Minnesota Twins. Additionally, the Wichita Wind Surge will take over at Double-A, replacing the Pensacola Blue Wahoos in a league-wide realignment to bring affiliates closer to their parent clubs. In another move, the Cedar Rapids Kernels will swap with the Fort Myers Mighty Mussels as the team's new High-A affiliate.

Plus, Gabrielle Starr talks Red Sox, trade targets and more in part one of our in-depth conversation.

The White Sox have made substantial early moves for the second straight offseason. Last year it was Yasmani Grandal on a four-year deal. This year it's a trade for Lance Lynn and the signing of Adam Eaton. Lynn comes from Texas where he finished sixth for the A.L. Cy Young award in 2020 and fifth in 2019. In return, the Rangers received RHP Dane Dunning and LHP Avery Weems. Eaton returned to the South Side after winning the 2019 World Series in Washington and struggling mightily in 2020. What does it mean for the Twins and the division?
