On today's episode of Locked on Wild, Alex Micheletti joins the show as we recap the weekend for the Wild, which included their first loss of the season on Sunday. We look at where blame should be put, and focus in on Kirill Kaprizov having a quiet start, uneven goaltending and the penalty kill struggling to start the year. With Kaprizov, we try to figure out if it's more him trying too hard or getting frustrated by how teams are playing him so far this year. Kaapo Kahkonen wasn't great in his first start of the year, but the team did him no favors with several bad penalties. That being said there were a few goals that Kaapo needs to save in the future. We look at an off night for the defense, and increased traffic in front of the net being a problem they need to find a solution for. We finish by looking at what potential line changes the Wild may look at this week, including Rem Pitlick potentially making his first start of the year and who he may replace in the lineup. At 4-1, the Wild definitely have room for improvement but are still going to be in the hunt when all is said and done.

On today's episode of Locked on Wild, we look at how the National Media are reacting to the Wild's 3-0 start to the season. We start with the Locked on NHL Power Rankings, compiled by votes from Locked on NHL hosts. The Wild come in at 11 in those rankings, which seems a little low considering the teams in front of them. We move toward National Power Rankings from CBS Sports, Sports Illustrated and NBC Sports, in which the Wild crack the top 10 in each one, with the Wild making the top 5 a couple of times. The consensus seems to be that the Wild's start is for real and should be taken seriously.
We move to the Central division to take the temperature of each team's start and which stocks we should be buying and which we should be selling. As for the Wild, Blues and Avalanche, the decision to buy is pretty obvious even with Colorado off to a slow start. We aren't sure what to think of the Stars yet, so we are holding on them, while aggressively selling Nashville, Arizona, Chicago and Winnipeg stock. Those four teams have shown many concerning things through their first few games of the year!

On today's episode of Locked on Wild, we recap the Wild's 6-5 overtime win against Winnipeg. We start by simply acknowledging the change this franchise has overcome, as games like this seemed impossible to win even as recently as a couple of years ago. We look at the events that lead to the Wild struggling tonight, and what led to them being able to complete the comeback tonight. We discuss what Joel Eriksson Ek has done to elevate the top line, and whether or not he has ascended to top line center, which he absolutely has. We also discuss whether or not Cam Talbot can be a good enough goalie to carry the Wild deep into the playoffs with the thought being that they don't need him to be a Vezina trophy candidate. They just need him to make a couple of saves a night and they can make a huge run.

On today's episode of Locked on Wild, we gear up for the Wild's third game of the year and their home opener against the Winnipeg Jets. We look at why the Jets are 0-2, with the main culprit being a dreadful start on the Power Play and Penalty Kill. The Jets have only killed 6 of 10 penalties to start the year and have yet to score on the Power Play themselves. Those are the biggest culprits despite other numbers looking good for the Jets.
We also look at what has led to Connor Hellebuyck's bad start to the year. While the play in front of him hasn't been very good, Hellebuyck has also not helped matters himself. We examine his peripheral stats compared to his career averages and when we can expect him to turn it around. We finish the episode by looking at the keys to the Wild improving to 3-0, which include avoiding a slow start, the bottom 6 winning their matchups, the defense continuing their strong start and capitalizing on Power Play opportunities.

On today's episode of Locked on Wild, Alex Micheletti joins for a Micheletti Monday, and we recap the first weekend of action in the NHL. We start with the Wild, who started the season 2-0 with a couple of nice road wins against Anaheim and Los Angeles. We looked at the best part of the weekend for the Wild, which was far and away the play of Cam Talbot. We also played "Overreaction or Not" with a few key questions:
We move to the Central division, and ask if it's time to panic for Chicago and Winnepeg with their goalies off to bad starts. We also point out that Darcy Kuemper is back to his old tricks again with great starts and awful starts being alternated. At the NHL level, we hit the panic button on the Vegas Golden Knights, who can't look to Jack Eichel to provide them instant relief with Max Pacioretty and Mark Stone both injured. We give Buffalo some credit for a good start to their season, debate whether or not Alexander Ovechkin can have a monster year this year in his quest to break Gretzky's goal record, and give Marco Rossi a shoutout for his first career AHL goal. A jam packed start to your week!

On today's episode of Locked on Wild, Nash Walker of Locked on Twins joins for a crossover show! We start by looking at what went wrong for the Twins this year in a few key areas: injuries, free agent signings, and inconsistent performances. We then see if the Wild are equipped in these areas to have better results. We discuss the effect an injury to the team's superstar player, Byron Buxton in the Twins case, can have on derailing the season. Seth notes that Kirill Kaprizov's playing style will hopefully keep him from sustaining any sort of major injuries this year.
We also look at the service time dilemmas that the Wild and Twins have both dealt with, and why patience is important with lean salary cap years coming for the Wild. Nash finishes by asking Seth who is dark horse player for the Wild is, with Nico Sturm being the obvious choice, as well as where the Wild will end up. Seth firmly believes 2nd in the Central and a playoff series win is not out of the question with this group.

On today's episode of Locked on Wild, we get ready for the Opening Night matchup against the Anaheim Ducks. We start by looking at last year's results, and how the Wild managed to win seven of the eight games despite almost every game being close. John Gibson had good numbers against the Wild despite only picking up one shutout win and the Ducks held Kirill Kaprizov to just one goal in the season series. We look at which team has the edge among their top 6 forwards, bottom 6 forwards, defensemen and goaltenders, with the Wild getting a slight edge in all of those categories. We finish the show by looking at key things the Wild will need to do to win, including a strong showing from the new top line, Cam Talbot, the back end of the Wild's defense, and Kevin Fiala's linemates. If all of that happens, the Wild should be able to start the year 1-0!

On today's episode of Locked on Wild, Zach Zeman joins the show on the eve of the Wild season starting! We start by giving major props to TNT and ESPN for their productions during game and studio shows as the season returns to their networks. We love the studio crew for TNT, including Wayne Gretzky and it's nice to have networks that are excited to grow the game. We move to the Wild's October schedule and look at just how hot of a start they can get off to for the 2021-22 season. Both Seth and Zach see no reason the Wild can't start the season 6-2 or 5-3 at the least. We also try to figure out how the Wild will split up the goalie starts for the first 8 games. We finish the show looking at any areas we are still concerned about as the season starts, with both Seth and Zach pointing to the 3rd D pairing and the 3rd line with Kevin Fiala. If those areas end up playing alright, the season will be better. Seth also calls for calm if the season doesn't start the way we hope it does.

On today's episode of Locked on Wild, Sarah Avampato of Locked on LA Kings joins for a crossover episode! We start by looking at whether or not the Kings could potentially sneak into the playoffs in a weak Pacific Division. We also look at the injury impact that the loss of Quintin Byfield will have on the rest of the lineup. We finish by discussing players that Wild fans should keep an eye on any time the Wild and Kings square off, as they do on Saturday!
On the Wild front, Sarah asks what sort of relief the State of Hockey felt when Kirill Kaprizov finally signed his extension. We also discuss what sort of roster development the Wild will have to cultivate when the Ryan Suter and Zach Parise buyouts reach their maximum amounts, with all eyes being on Marco Rossi, Adam Beckman and Matt Boldy. Sarah also asks who besides Kirill Kaprizov Kings fans should keep an eye on from the Wild roster.
We look at Saturday's game to finish things up. Sara wonders what the Kings need to do to slow down Kirill Kaprizov, with Seth suggesting they throw as much attention his way as possible. Seth is concerned about the potential of facing Jonathan Quick, who had good numbers against the Wild last year despite the Wild winning the series. Sarah says he may not even play, but either way we should be in for a great game between the two teams!
