You've probably heard of humble pie, referring to someone who needs a reality check or just a bit less ego to go with their long list of self-proclaimed achievements, but what about a struggle pie. Have you ever heard of that?
Last week we discussed levels of resiliency with my special guest Ed Beard, The Question Professor. Resiliency has a strong tie to how we handle struggle and what we do to OVERCOME it. Those who would be considered "low" or "limited" resiliency are more likely to notice struggle and add negative emotion to it, while "high" or "maximum" resiliency folks will sometimes not EVEN notice there is a problem. Then, there are levels in between those two extremes who experience different levels depending on whether they lean "low" or "high".
Today's episode highlighted a need for a reframe when the struggle feels SO BIG that it becomes your whole world. Sometimes, whether we are sitting in struggle for a reason, a season or our entire lifetime, we can focus so much on what's weighing us down that we forget to see past the struggle and recognize how small it really is in the over picture of our identities, life experiences and sense of self worth.
We had an amazing conversation to day with our live audience AND I'm planning on facilitating the struggle pie exercise for those of you who aren't quite understanding the process. Though it seems simple and quick it's actually an activity that takes some intimate time with yourself and sometimes some feedback from family and friends.
