To continue the series of my all time favourit artists I am chuffed to share 75min of listening pleasure from Sebastian Mullaert (aka Minilogue) with you. What a yummy Santa Claus surprise :)

Thank you for all the great music you have created, Sebastian, and the goosebumps and joy you have given us through your excellent sound! And for taking the time to inspire us with your very interesting and meaningful interview answers.

    Interview:

    1. Lucidflow: How does a creative day look/feel like for you?

Sebastian: I try to live a life where I have the possibility to be reminded about my being and at the same time be able to remind other beings about their being. You could say that it’s an invitation of the being to the being to be … Might sound stupid but at the moment I feel that this is the only true meaning there is. I try to let this be the intention behind everything I do; both in my daily life, my zen practise and my creative work in the studio and when I’m performing music on stage.

Like most beings I meet on this journey I also have loads of habitual patterns and unbalances that can be a hinder in keeping this pure intention strong all the time, patterns that I’m unaware about that hinder me and my surrounding to express creativity. Being aware and see this and also gather the strength and faith to face what I most of all want to escape is part of this practise, my daily life with my wife and two children, my zen practise and my creative work in the studio are all amazing ways to do this. This is the life I have right now and I’m thankful for getting this opportunity to let freedom take place; within and outside … So this definition no longer make any sense.

Also in the studio I’ve found ways to express creativity. I will try to keep it short but I could probably write a book about this since I think it is a very ingesting subject and a subject that can be of interest for most people whatever they do, creativity is not something excluded to artists … All of us beings are taking part of the creation of this universe, all of us have the responsibility to free oneself for the benefit of all, this means living a creative life; a life where this very moment is expressed thru our being; consciousness.

Most days in the studio are different and I try to let them be different, too many times I’ve structured things … Often because I’m so excited about feeling the flow and creativity that the structuring part of me try to grab life and keep it as it is, which is an impossible thing to do, life and creativity is change itself … Working against change is not creativity, I’ve learnt to listen to the feeling when I express these non creative patterns … Lust and happiness disappear and the magical feeling of flow is replaced with a grey feeling of “have to do”.

A couple of things I’m keeping as a practise in the studio; one or two walks in the forests that surrounds the studio and village (röstånga) where I live, and a 45 minute mediation. I normally do this before I start to express myself. I want to express from the being within, from the place where everything is perfect and nothing more is needed … This is the place where I feel the love comes from that should be source for where the universe is being created, in this very moment. If I’m not connected with this inner being there is a big risk that other more destructive patterns get part of my expression and then also shared with the rest of the world, in the end this is what I’m then sharing with myself. The being is not reminding the being but the habitual patterns are just being amplified into the future.

    2. Lucidflow: How do you hinder yourself in being creative?

Sebastian: when I’m not taking my responsibility to see what I said the last question.

    3. Lucidflow: how do you support yourself in being creative?

Sebastian: like I said in the first question … I try to live a life where I let myself be reminded about my being, about living a creative life by everything I meet. This is of course not always the case, some patterns are very strong! Mediation, waking in the forest, dancing, playing instruments and sharing life with other beings are all wonderful and strong tools to make a creative life possible for me.

    4. Lucidflow: How did you come across Lucidflow?

Sebastian: I got a nice invitation by email from nadja lind:)

    5. Lucidflow: Tell us one of your greatest wishes:

Sebastian: for all of us to be free:)

    6. Lucidflow: If you had an infinite amount of time and money what would you do?:

Sebastian: continue to make music so people can dance and feel:)

    7. Lucidflow: Anything else you’d like to spread to the Lucid world?

Sebastian: let life and your creativity guide your way, listen to how it feels, dare to face the ghosts that you’re trying to hide or run away from … I think this is a great way to freedom:)

Gabrielle Roth once said this, I feel it’s very true:)

“In many shamanic societies, if you come to a medicine person complaining of being disheartened, dispirited, or depressed, they would ask one of these four questions:

“When did you stop dancing? When did you stop singing? When did you stop being enchanted by stories? When did you stop being comforted by the sweet territory of silence?”

a while ago my favourite radio station Jazzradio.net played a jazzy lounge tune that I couldn’t get out of my head – so beautiful, warm and soulful that I had to send a message to ask for the title and artist.

I must admit I was a little surprised about the answer: Megablast – it was just not in line with this soft, warm and beautiful piece of music titled ‘Sun’ that I bought right away.

I am delighted to air a great dj mix from Sascha aka Megablast on The Lucid Podcast…

Unfortunately he’s too busy atm for answering an interview but let the music do the talking. :) Thank you, Sascha and safe travels!

VEEERY happy to finally have a great set from our dear friend and amazing artist Vince Watson on The Lucid Podcast… Always a great pleasure to listen to and watch him performing his wicked LIVE PERFORMANCES… I wonder how he manages to do all the travelling with tons of analogue gear and stuff…  You can also check out Vince’s amazing deep house remix for Klartraum – ‘Map Of Truth (Vince Watson Remix) also released on 12″ vinyl and read below his very inspiring answers to my little lucid interview. Thank you Vince!

    Interview:

    1. Lucidflow: How does a creative day look/feel like for you?
I used to be just random, free flow, work when i feel/like attitude and it worked when I was less busy with other things. I changed to a ‘kind-of’ set structure 18 months months ago and it has been amazing. I saw a lecture from John Cleese talking about creativity and working patterns and it was really inspiring. Now I had a routine which is Studio time Monday/Tuesday. Wednesday off. Thursday/Friday back in Studio and weekend touring/off. Within each day I work for 2 hours, and no matter what I’m doing ill stop after 2 hours and have a 1 hour break. The brain is so much more alive when you go back in. You think your in the ‘zone’ if you don’t have a break….but believe me, the end results will be huge if you walk away and go back in later. I also work on 1 genre at a time and don’t flick between them so for 5-6 week periods I will immerse myself in a particular genre and create/live in that zone. So far, these rules are making great results so I’m happy now. Of course, some days you break them but in the main, its working well.

    2. Lucidflow: How do you hinder yourself in being creative?

By doing the same thing for too long or accepting projects (remixes etc) that have short deadlines. I cannot stress how important the breaks are, and also proper timetables. If your an amateur musician looking to go into making music full time, you have to get rid of the amateur attitude and schedule your work professionally. if you don’t take your self seriously, why would anyone else? :)

    3. Lucidflow: how do you support yourself in being creative?

I think any creative person needs support from every angle. We are a strange crowd…the crazy ones with routines and patterns that might not be the same as our loving family and friends, but finding the balance between time and space for everything in your personal and working like is the key to supporting yourself. There are always down moments in the music industry, but the highs always outweigh them if you have a good solid foundation beneath you to feed from, and thats where the time/space/balance comes into effect. So don’t lock yourself in a room for 6 months without speaking to your friends or family lol.

    4. Lucidflow: How did you come across Lucidflow?

I was at a house party with a friends of mines in Amsterdam and there was a mix playing from SamuraiFM from Nadja Lind. The trackllsting was lush and thats when i discovered some of the tracks. Then by coincidence I moved booking agency around the same time and Nadja/Klartraum were on the same agency, AD Bookings.

    5. Lucidflow: Tell us one of your greatest wishes:

I wish the music industry was based on music and not making money. The world would be a very different place……hype removed, talent left exposed. Real musicianship rewarded and talentless wankers going back to the boy bands/girl groups they belong.

    6. Lucidflow: If you had an infinite amount of time and money what would you do?: Infinite time Is a romantic notion. If you could get everything you wanted whenever you wanted with no limits there would be no point in doing anything as there is no risks, rewards, purpose behind it and no point in setting targets or goals, no feeling of satisfaction, nothing to aim for…every association you have with normal life would end after a brief period of having everything, then asking yourself, ‘whats the point to life?’. Infinite money is do-able though hahaha :)

    7. Lucidflow: Anything else you’d like to spread to the Lucid world?

2014 has been an incredible year for me. After getting a bit lost with my music, I made changes to the labels i was releasing on and this year i released 2 singles on Planet E with a Carl Craig Remix, released 2 singles on Poker Flat, released the final single on my Bio label, also my debut single on Digweed’s Bedrock label, a debut release on Cocoon in september…and in December I will release my debut single on Ovum with a Josh Wink remix. January will also bring my debut on Osunlade’s Yoruba label…Its been hard work re-establish my music direction and have new homes for my music but I’m happy with that now. Aside from some great festival gigs this year, I also debuted at Richie Hawtin’s ENTER at Space Ibiza, which was epic fun.

  • The Lucid Podcast 073 Helmut Ebritsch LIVE

Trick or treat? …finally we have a special 1h live treat from Helmut Ebritsch on The Lucid Podcast!

    Interview:

    1. Lucidflow: How does a creative day look/feel like for you?
Having a good idea or jamming around. Something new appears out of nothing.
That’s a creative day. Most of the time it feels energizing.

    2. Lucidflow: How do you hinder yourself in being creative?

Too much Facebook, email or business related stuff. Following old patterns or mind loops.
Discounting of my music or losing myself in hopelessness.

    3. Lucidflow: how do you support yourself in being creative?

Just do it. The more creative i’m the more creative i get. Practicing helps me to get faster in to creative mood. Shadow work helps to free some stored energy in body and psychic system.

    4. Lucidflow: How did you come across Lucidflow?

I don’t know it just was a very good idea.

    5. Lucidflow: Tell us one of your greatest wishes:

The first time i talked to god i had 3 wishes
    1. Money
    2. A Girlfriend
    3. A Car

I got all 3 things, but i wasn’t specific enough.

    1. Didn’t make me happy because i didn’t know what to do with it at that time.
    2. Was fun but didn’t make me happy.
    3. As soon i got it, it lost it’s attractiveness – i sold it as soon i moved to berlin

Since that i’m very careful with wishes, it could get true. First i have to figure out to wish for the right things.

    6. Lucidflow: If you had an infinite amount of time and money what would you do?:

The same thing just on a bigger scale. Maybe help educating about electronic music.

    7. Lucidflow: Anything else you’d like to spread to the Lucid world?

I really like music and sound – i recommend Beyerdynamic T-1 Headphones !

    8. Lucidflow: You recently released your brilliant Album ‘Souls Transmitting’. What’s behind the title and can you tell us a little about your working process and the titles?

My definition of soul is the energy that makes us alive. A soul line is for me a individual with a history of ancestors. Between this lines it is possible to transmit “in-form-ations”. Very emotional or intense events are the points there this “transmission” is happening. Music has a huge power to transmit certain states and energies. The album should lead to a flow state and i think it is capable of doing so. It is made for deep listeners but it also works on the dancefloor.
My work process is nothing special, no secrets involved. I just try not to lose myself in details and follow more and more my intentions and sparks of inspirations.
I personally do not care if a sound is analog or digital or which tool is used to record it. I’m interested in the vibe that is generated through a track.
Melodies Of Power – this is the working title of the album and an introduction of epic proportions – bigger as the self – seen as a building it would be a huge white castle
Ecstatic Truth – about a peak expierence in my life
Souls Transmitting – dark , multi dimensional, rich, more as it seems, very intimate, the story of my life
ReStructure – calming down, flow, peace, meditation
Flamingo Park – David Lynch style, being lost in a “normal” environment, everything looks normal but is still totally scary, a tribute to a visit to the “Tierpark” (Zoo) Berlin
Emptiness – opening the gate to the stateless state
Sleep In Your Dream – Everyday we go to sleep in our dream – did you every try to go sleeping in your dreams ?
Observer – a tribute to the detached observer, sometimes feels like a safe place – but it is not very warm there
Revelations – oh the secrets of consciousness reveal themselves going deeper and deeper
Emerging – new things/experiences appear never thought to be possible by the mind – complete unknown experiences are there to be expierenced
Empowerment – bringing the power back , deciding every moment without restrictions – being responsible with knowing myself
Deep Invitation – please follow the music into the depths of your soul
    Alive – I’m alive
Souls Transmuting – Mutation, freeing old stuff from the past, letting demons go, new realities shining throu

…no need to mention I’ve been fan of his music since I got introduced to his ‘From Dub Til Dawn’ killer album on vinyl in 2000… I must have listened to ‘Lost and Found’ around 11111 times or maybe 11112. Eventually time to thank you for the joy & goosebumps! ;-)

another aural treat + interview on current Lucid Podcast comes from d_func. who’s happen to be the darker side of Alexander Kowalski. I’ve been loving his sounds for many years. Thank you Alex for taking the time and sharing your music.

    Interview:

    1. Lucidflow: How does a creative day look/feel like for you?

A creative day is a good day! I love to have music around me. And i really love it when i go to the studio and it just hits me. I forget the time and everything around me. It´s like living in my own universe.

    2. Lucidflow: How do you hinder yourself in being creative?

Well… I would say being online stops the creativity. I try to avoid hanging out on facebook and skype too much.

    3. Lucidflow: how do you support yourself in being creative?

If i listen to music i always analyze and it gives me fresh ideas. I listen to a lot of „none techno“ music. At the moment i really like Post-Rock. It´s nice to transform inspirations from that kinf of music into techno.

    4. Lucidflow: How did you come across Lucidflow?

    Lucidflow came to me. ;-)

    5. Lucidflow: Tell us one of your greatest wishes:

For me or for mankind? My own greatest wish come true : i can make music and pay my bills from it. Thats the coolest thing you can ask for.

    6. Lucidflow: If you had an infinite amount of time and money what would you do?:

Tough question. I´m not sure it´s nice to have infinite time and money. I think it´s a good thing to have some limits. So you can enjoy time & moments. And it´s also okay when they are over.

    7. Lucidflow: Anything else you’d like to spread to the Lucid world?

Life´s too short for boring music!

No need to explain Tigerskin aka Dub Taylor aka Korsakow aka … his productions have been in my vinyl collection since I started dj-ing. I’ll now get myself a strawberry shake and soak up some sun while chilling out to The Lucid Podcast 070. Thank you ‘Dub Tiger’ for your ever outstanding music.

The Lucid Podcast presents Eelke Kleijn with 1.5h pleasure for your ears and dancing legs. His interview’s just inspired me to spend more time in the studio… thanks for that, Eelke and your great music and personality. x

    Interview:

    1. Lucidflow: How does a creative day look/feel like for you?
Usuallly I work in the studio in the morning from 10 – 2. Then I go out for some sports or a jog. Then back into the studio again 4- 6. And then a few more hours in the evening, 8 – 10 or so. I used to work long days in the studio but that really breaks me up nowadays, I have to do some other things in between in order to feel good and also to be inspired.

    2. Lucidflow: How do you hinder yourself in being creative?

Comparing too much with what other people are making really kills the creativity.

    3. Lucidflow: how do you support yourself in being creative?

Usually by listening to other music, that sparks idea. So as you can see it’s a very thin line ;)

    4. Lucidflow: How did you come across Lucidflow?

I’ve known the label for a while, not really sure how long. And I met with Nadja in Australia on my last tour there.

    5. Lucidflow: Tell us one of your greatest wishes:

    To grow old healthy.

    6. Lucidflow: If you had an infinite amount of time and money what would you do:

Exactly the same thing I am doing right now! Only I’d move and built a new studio in the garden I guess.

    7. Lucidflow: Anything else you would spread to the Lucid world?

This is a recording from my last time in Australia where I met Nadja. I thought that was appropriate :) Enjoy!

  • The Lucid Podcast 068 Pav Parrotte & Ryan Pamatmat

We have another banging podcast for you from two great artists based in Manila/ Phillipines and they also took some time to do an interview with us where you can find out what the guys are up to… Thank you Pav and Ryan – you rock!

    Interview:

    1. Lucidflow: How does a creative day look/feel like for you?

Pav – I never know until the day is over. I rarely wake up in the morning and say right I’m gonna nail a track today with a certain theme in my head. The creativity will just flow if it’s right…if it does turn out to be a creative day then I don’t want to go to bed but alas I have no choice because the day job beckons.

    Ryan – Sober! :)

    2. Lucidflow: How do you hinder yourself in being creative?

Pav – I am a lazy ass! I need a deadline. Without a deadline I don’t meet targets. Time management is key and something I am still learning after all these years ;)

Ryan –  When the day job gets in the way… And when I try too hard to create something even if I can’t find an inspiration! It’s just impossible. My mind just goes pffft!!! :)

    3. Lucidflow: how do you support yourself in being creative?

Pav – I try and listen to what’s fresh and immerse myself in music from my favourite producers. I don’t really get creative ideas from looking at landscapes or watching the trees sway in the wind…Creativity will flow when it’s ready but I do need something inspiring and that is usually music or a good collaborator like Ryan Pamatmat.

Ryan – I always look at things differently and think how I can make something that already exist, better. I always like to push boundaries and test myself how far deep can I go. I try to innovate and always put a twist in everything that I do which makes it more meaningful once I create something out of it. The possibilities in electronic music are endless.

    4. Lucidflow: How did you come across Lucidflow?

Pav – I booked Nadja to play at my club, TIME in Manila but before that she gave some solid support for an EP produced by Ryan on my label, Asia Music. I had known about Nadja for some time as she was doing some work with Darkroom Dubs but it was only towards the end of 2013 that I found Lucidflow.

Ryan – Through my best mate, Pav Parrotte and through Nadja Lind who supported one of my EPs “Awake” on Pav Parrotte’s label “Asia Music”.

    5. Lucidflow: Tell us one of your greatest wishes:

Pav – Quit my day job, live in a nice quiet self designed home with a studio and a pool. Have my daughter to grow up knowing how to handle this sometimes awful world and for my family, friends and I to live happily ever after…… and to be stinking rich!!

Ryan – to touch people’s lives with music I create.

    6. Lucidflow: If you had an infinite amount of time and money what would you do?:

Pav – Make music and travel…..easy options but the truth :)

Ryan – Quit my job and buy a beach house in the Bahamas… Build a proper studio and make more tunes!

    7. Lucidflow: Anything else you would spread to the Lucid world?

Pav – Check out our label www.asiamusic.co – we deliver the finest House and Techno from Asia.

Ryan – Peace, love and music!
