Erica hired a "midwife," had a healthy uneventful pregnancy, and meticulously planned for an unmedicated vaginal birth. What transpired at the hospital when it was time to deliver was a cascade of dehumanizing and unnecessary interventions, culminating in Pitocin and finally, a cesarean.
Erica is now 15 months postpartum, and shares how she's healing the PTSD from this experience. We talk about how difficult it is to struggle with the question, why did my birth go this way, when it is so easy for others? We end with some thoughts on how traumatic births impact our babies, and a call to action to listeners to share any resources you have on this subject.
