I stumbled upon an old journal entry from the year 2000, more than 20 years ago, where I wrote down three of my greatest fears. As I pondered today what I was struggling with back at that time, I wondered, “What mental health advice would I have given myself, if I had the chance to talk to 2000 Mark DeJesus?”

Now please understand. I am not sure that Mark DeJesus from the year 2000 would have listened to the mental health feedback I would have received. You know how it is. You are only ready to recieve what you need when you are ready. Also, there is no way I would have been able to handle this feedback all at once.

On a side note, I think it’s important for believers to know that it is not our job to lecture at people about everything we think they need to change. We have a lot of work to do when it comes to being safe and effective in how we share with one another in grace and love. Too many times we speak into something when its not our pleace to do so.

Back to the topic at hand. As I pondered over what I have learned in the past 20 years, I considered 10 important things that I would want to communicate to “old Mark” and to anyone who may be going through any form of mental health struggle. While I could share hundreds of things, I narrowed it down to ten.

I pray you all benefit from me sharing the three fears from the journal entry as well as the important insights I have learned when it comes to mental health that would be valuable for my journey.
