  • CHICAGO on Broadway... was great?! | how casting can return this revival to its razzle-dazzle roots

During Mickey-Jo's most recent trip to New York City, he found himself with very limited options and time enough for an additional show in his schedule, which sent him (to his own surprise) back to CHICAGO.

The last thing Mickey-Jo expected on his 3rd visit to the long-running Broadway revival was a startling glimpse at its former (and enduringly possible) glory, but thanks to the sublime principal cast that's what happened.

Inspired by this joyous night at the theatre, Mickey-Jo is sharing some insights into the show's history and what about this lineup restored its razzle dazzle.

  • American Psycho (Almeida Theatre, London) - ★★★ REVIEW

This week, after considerable intrigue and massive demand for tickets, the musical adaptation of AMERICAN PSYCHO has returned to the London stage, with a revised production opening at the Almeida Theatre where it first premiered in 2013.

The musical, which features a book by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and a score by Duncan Sheik, stars Arty Froushan as Patrick Bateman alongside a cast filled with the West End's most compelling rising stars, and marks the final production at the venue for outgoing artistic director Rupert Goold.

Check out what Mickey-Jo thought of the musical when he revisited it after seeing its initial run as a teenager, his thoughts on how it fares as an adaptation, whether it belongs on stage at all, and how this production varies from its predecessors...

  • BURLESQUE is back... but not as you know it | who will direct the musical's London run and UK tour?

In surprising news, it was announced earlier today that the popular (and controversial) stage musical adaptation of BURLESQUE would return to London later this year following a cancelled Japanese run.

The show, which ran last year at the Savoy Theatre and sparked an equity investigation, will run concurrently at a new West End venue in Marble Arch and on tour around the UK, with creatives to be announced - indicating that a 3rd director (following predecessors Nick Winston and Todrick Hall) will be attached to envision a new production of the evolving show.

Check out this theatre news recap to find out how Burlesque got here, why this decision is a bold one, and who Mickey-Jo believes will be the show's next director...

  • Cabaret (UMusic Hotel Teatro Albéniz, Madrid) - ★★★★ REVIEW

Earlier this month Mickey-Jo flew to Madrid to see four musicals in Spanish, in spite of the fact that he does not speak the language.

Among the most intriguing was an original production of CABARET, one which again transformed the auditorium (of Teatro Albéniz at the UMusic Hotel) into the Kit Kat Club.

Check out Mickey-Jo's full review to find out why it was so shocking, which characters were afforded newly meaningful material, and which songs arrived at completely unexpected moments!

  • Will THE TRAITORS work on stage? | Thoughts on the global TV phenomenon coming to the stage in 2027

Earlier this week it was announced that THE TRAITORS, the global television phenomenon, was being developed for a London stage launch in 2027.

While, at this time, it remains unclear exactly what this production will be - a live version of the game, or a narrative play based on it, we can certainly expect that it will prove to be popular.

Ahead of further details being announced, Mickey-Jo is taking this opportunity to speculate about what the show might look like, and whether it has the chance to be successful...

  • Why shouldn't Dylan Mulvaney be in SIX? | The honest truth behind the Broadway casting backlash

It was recently announced that actor and social media personality, Dylan Mulvaney, would join the Broadway cast of SIX the Musical alongside other new cast members including Abigail Barlow and returning members of the original Broadway company.

In an increasingly dangerous climate for the trans community, this news has unearthed criticism, with the show's X account becoming temporarily private in order to limit what the producers have characterised as bullying.

In a theatre news recap, Mickey-Jo is sharing his thoughts on the history of both the show, and Mulvaney as a performer, in order to illustrate why this casting is not only valid, but hugely exciting.
