Michael Levin is a Distinguished Professor in the Biology department at Tufts University and associate faculty at the Wyss Institute for Bioinspired Engineering at Harvard University. Prof Levin holds the Vannevar Bush endowed Chair and serves as director of the Allen Discovery Center at Tufts and the Tufts Center for Regenerative and Developmental Biology. Prior to college, Michael Levin worked as a software engineer and independent contractor in the field of scientific computing. He attended Tufts University, interested in artificial intelligence and unconventional computation. To explore the algorithms by which the biological world implemented complex adaptive behavior, he got dual B.S. degrees, in CS and in Biology and then received a PhD from Harvard University. He did post-doctoral training at Harvard Medical School, where he began to uncover a new bioelectric language by which cells coordinate their activity during embryogenesis. His independent laboratory develops new molecular-genetic and conceptual tools to probe large-scale information processing in regeneration, embryogenesis, and cancer suppression.
Professor Karl Friston is one of the most highly cited living neuroscientists in history. He is Professor of Neuroscience at King's College London and holds Honorary Doctorates from the University of Zurich, University of York and Radboud University. He is the world expert on brain imaging, neuroscience, and theoretical neurobiology, and pioneers the Free-Energy Principle for action and perception, with well-over 300,000 citations. Friston was elected a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences (1999). In 2000 he was President of the international Organization of Human Brain Mapping. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 2006. He became a Fellow of the Royal Society of Biology in 2012 and was elected as a member of EMBO (excellence in the life sciences) in 2014 and the Academia Europaea in (2015).
Keith Frankish is a Honorary Reader in Philosophy at the University of Sheffield, a Visiting Research Fellow at The Open University, & an Adjunct Professor with the Brain & Mind Programme in Neurosciences at the University of Crete. He is the author of "Mind and Supermind" & "Consciousness", as well as numerous journal articles & book chapters. He is the editor of "Illusionism as a Theory of Consciousness" & the co-editor of "In Two Minds: Dual Processes and Beyond", "New Waves in Philosophy of Action", "The Cambridge Handbook of Cognitive Science", & "The Cambridge Handbook of Artificial Intelligence". Keith’s research interests lie mainly in philosophy of mind, and he is known for defending an illusionist theory of phenomenal consciousness, an action-based account of conscious thought, and a two-level view of the human mind.
Professor Hyman Schipper is a Professor of Neurology and Medicine (Geriatrics) at McGill University in Montreal, Canada, a clinical neurologist at Montreal’s Jewish General Hospital and the director of a neuroscience laboratory in the hospital’s affiliated Lady Davis Institute for biomedical research. His research focuses on degenerative diseases affecting the brain and mind, and he is the author of over 200 peer-reviewed papers on these and related topics. Prof. Schipper has long been interested in the interface between contemporary science and the Jewish mystical tradition (Kabbalah). His work in this area was initially published in Yeshiva University’s Torah u-Madda Journal (2012-13) and more recently in Unified Field Mechanics II (RL Amoroso et al. eds., World Scientific 2018) and Bar-Ilan University’s DAAT: Journal of Jewish Philosophy & Kabbalah (2019). Dr. Schipper is also a member of the @essentiafoundation Academic Advisory Board.
🚀 Journey through Consciousness & Out of the Body with Dr Tom Campbell 🌌
Thomas Campbell is a Nuclear Physicist, Lecturer, and Author of the "My Big T.O.E." (Theory of Everything) trilogy. He worked as a physicist in technology development and complex-system risk analysis for both government and industry. In addition, he championed for more than 50 years the scientific, drug-free research into altered states of consciousness. This unique combination enabled him to develop My Big TOE, a scientific model of reality based on the insight that consciousness – not matter – is fundamental to all existence. After obtaining degrees in mathematics and physics, he attained his PhD at the University of Virginia. His work includes 12 years in technical intelligence, 15 years at Missile Defense Agency, and 10 years as a consultant in the general area of large-systems risk and vulnerability analysis for various high-tech companies, including two years with NASA.
Robert Lawrence Kuhn, PhD., is the creator, executive producer, writer, and host of Closer To Truth, the PBS/public television series on Cosmos, Life, Consciousness, and Meaning that presents leading scientists, philosophers, and creative thinkers discussing fundamental questions. Dr Kuhn has published over 30 books, including The Mystery of Existence: Why is there Anything At All? (with John Leslie); Closer To Truth: Challenging Current Belief; Closer To Truth: Science, Meaning and the Future; How China’s Leaders Think; and The Man Who Changed China: The Life and Legacy of Jiang Zemin (the first biography of a living Chinese leader published in China and China’s best-selling book in 2005). His articles include “Why This Universe”, “Levels of Nothing”, and “Virtual Immortality” (Skeptic magazine) and “Science as Democratizer” (American Scientist). He is an “Expert Voice” on www.Space.com (multimedia essays on “Confronting the Multiverse: What Infinitely Universes would Mean”, “Testing the Multiverse: Beyond the Limits of Science?”, “Forget Space-Time: Information May Create the Cosmos”, “The Illusion of Time: What’s Real?”, “Is Our Universe a Fake?”) and on LiveScience.com (“The Singularity, Virtual Immortality and the Trouble with Consciousness”, “Is Your ‘Self’ Just an Illusion?”, “Can Your ‘Self’ Survive Death?”).
