In this edition of Locked on Capitals Dan talks about the goalie situation. Zach Fucale and Hunter Shepard are UFA's at the end of the season. The question of if the Bears should bring them both back is complicated. The Bears recently signed Mitchell Gibson. From Nova Caps: "The Daily Faceoff’s Frank Seravalli is reporting that the Washington Capitals have signed goaltender prospect Mitchell Gibson to a one-year deal. Gibson is also expected to sign an amateur tryout agreement (ATO) with the Hershey Bears, which will allow him to join the team this season." Seems like a solid option for years to come. Later Dan talks about James van Riemsdyk. In a piece in the Hockey Writer's they talk about him being a viable option. Dan weighs the pros and cons and how he doesn't really fit the narrative of the team getting younger. In the final segment Dan talks about Caps prospect Henrik Rybinski and where he fits in with the Capitals long term plans. According to The Hockey Writer's "The Capitals signed Rybinski to a three-year entry-level contract in March 2022, and he has been playing in the American Hockey League (AHL) with the Hershey Bears since the start of the 2022-23 season. He has transitioned well to the professional level, with four goals and 12 assists for 16 points through 44 games, as well as a plus-5 rating and 18 penalty minutes. He seems like a good option not this season, but maybe a season or two from now.
