Today's episode features TWO special guests, CCF Associate Director Leena Al Arian and Legal Director Kathy Manley. Leena has lived through the arrest and detention of a family member and can speak to the psychological effects on families of laws that target and entrap Muslims in the United States since 9/11. Ms. Manley describes the legal realities uniquely faced by Muslims in the United States, forcing us to pay attention to the laws in our country and working to support those affected by them.

FACE is helping us spiritually and physically cleanse our worship spaces of the crimes of hidden marriages, physical, sexual, and financial abuse that sometimes occurs by leadership. Although our minority Muslim community plays ostrich, MWM is not about that game. We want our masajid to recruit the right people to guide our families, and stop protecting leadership at the expense of those affected by abuse--the ones abused, which could include our children and families. Brush the sand off your backs and tune in!

This episode is NOT meant to be heard by children unless our mom audience feels they're ready for it. If you're a survivor of any sexual trauma, as a child or as an adult, you may not be ready for it either, so gauge your ability to revisit the past. We are here for you either way. If you need resources to deal with PTSD due to a history of abuse, we have links for you below, and we are always just a DM/PM or email away.
This episode IS meant to prepare us to hear the hard truths about child sex abuse, such as our personal experiences with it, how pervasive it is, and also new things like how subversive it can be. Learn about grooming, disclosure, even forgivenesss, and how to be the safety net our kids need in the event that the worst should happen; may Allah SWT protect them all always. Ameen. We have made ourselves incredibly vulnerable in this episode because we trust our Muslim and non Muslim mom sisters to receive these hard truths in love and compassion, and to offer thosein turn to themselves, as well as to their children. We are not alone in this.
Sexual abuse doesn't happen because we are Americans and that's "this culture." NO! Sexual abuse doesn't monopolize any one country or society. Many cultures within and without the US have to deal with it, but we have the opportunity to dive deep into this difficult topic and figure out how to prevent and treat it. Mommying means rolling up our sleeves for the sake of the kids and our God-given duty to protect them at all costs.
Shariea is on the money when she says education is the best prevention, so that's where most of this conversation will be. Hugs for anyone who needs them after this one! While holidays may look different for everyone, the spirit of the season is gratitude and family. When are we being paranoid and when are we being stereotypical ourselves? Muslim-American moms have to be extra careful to be friendly enough, but also safety savvy in a way other moms don’t. The identity of “being stuck” or “ABCD” vs. the firmly planted identities of native-born Muslim-American children will be addressed as well as offensive vs. intentional curiosity.
Let’s talk about discrimination, hijab, Muslim identity, and how we plan to shape the paths our kids will tread in the future.

This week, Uzma's pre adolescent son, Usman, provides points for Muslim American moms to be successful and operate better on their day to day. See if you think what he says is just for Muslim American moms or not, and maybe you'll find a pleasant surprise.
There are plenty of revelations for some here, at least for those who have been raised with some "back home" style parenting, but most of this young man's sage advice is now common knowledge, and we hope to break cycles of negative parenting with better tools. We're all a work in progress. Even better is the great news Usman offers about his own experiences with discrimination at school, and we can only hope that every Muslim kid in this country feels the same way.
A nice pearl today is a quick guide for the Muslim American, or any, family, so make sure you listen to the end! Don't forget to rate and review this episode, or DM/PM on FB or IG.

Come unpack all the guilt Muslim moms feel and what we can do about it. We try to prove that everything we feel guilty about is made up, and remind ourselves about the Thought Model as well as, oh yeah, Allah's promise to us! Explore the limited resources we have to learn more about Muslim mom guilt from the professionals (why aren't more people studying this?!?!?), but mostly feel better about the choices we have to make on a daily basis for our families.
