Money Behind March Madness, $8B Sports Analytics, LSU x NFTs, and More

Listen Later

I want to personally welcome the 520+ new subscribers to The Petcash Post from this past week.

Every Sunday I do a weekly roundup that includes a short audio segment recapping the business of athletes sports stories that I didn’t have a chance to write about.

You’ll enjoy it — many others says it’s one of their favorite newsletters of the week.

Audio Timeline:

0:34 - A Stock Market, But For Betting on Athletes

1:32 - Players Holding Out of Spring Practice Due to Lack of NIL Deals

2:40 - The Business of March Madness

3:30 - Two Cool Basketball Stories (it’s growing fast internationally)

4:23 - Kyler Murray Donating $60,000

4:59 - The Sports Analytics Market To Reach $8B…But How?

5:47 - NFTs x LSU and A New NIL Market Report

6:50 - Drake Makes (and loses) Millions Betting on Sports

7:52 - A New $80,000 Gadget The NFL is Using

Interesting Stat

A whopping 78% of former NFL players go broke just 2 years after retirement.

This chart is pretty eye-opening (and shows the need for greater financial literacy across all demographics, age groups, and professions).

Short Passage of The Week

By Steve Gilbert

When people would come to me for advice, I would always worry that I had to come up with the "right" answer for them. But I realized that almost without fail, people don't expect us to have the answers for them. They come to us because they want to someone to listen to them and support them as they work through whatever the issue might be. When we are focused on listening to them (instead of being lost in our own heads trying to come up with the "right" answer for them) we can ask them questions that help them to see what the best path for them is. Today, focus less on trying to come up with the right answers for people and instead pose the right questions.

“The wise man doesn't give the right answers, he poses the right questions.”

Recommended Media

Good listen about where sports is headed and the technology behind it.

And then this video shows the 3D experiences fans will soon be getting for sports — it’s still in early stages of development.

Kyrie is playing chess, while everyone else is playing checkers (he’s also very generous):
