"You learn courage by couraging." Mary Daly. I started swim lessons this week at the ripe old age of 37. After I explain how I impulsively got myself into this mess, I want to show how we can role model bravery for our kids, and how this situation parallels the new and scary things we ask of our kids quite often. How can we overcome what's holding us back? Especially fear! What if I look stupid? What if I am terrible? Let's let go of our perfectionism, step out of our comfort zones, embrace bravery, and figure it out together. It's never too late to try something new!

Honestly, she kinda lost me in the beginning of the book, and then it came full circle and I figured out why all that discussion at the front end was life-changing. As a shame researcher, Brene gives practical advice on how identify, and subsequently counter, shame. A must-read for all who are struggling with shame-ridden secrets rotting away at our insides, which I am pretty sure is 99% of us.

But there is a fine line between explaining why we do (or don't do) something, and allowing ourselves to use that explanation to habitually excuse ourselves from improving. Are you struggling with this like I am? Just a little self-conviction this week.
