  • Legends of Tomorrow S4E22 Hey, World Review – Super Tuesday Recap
We couldn't stay mad at this show forever. Sure, we still wish they let Mick slow roast Gary. But besides that, we love this show. And we love how this episode wrapped up the entire season. Who would have thought that Hank Heywood's crazy idea for a monster-based theme park would be the solution for defeating Neron? And even with the silliness, there are still some real ramifications. Nate almost dies. He also loses yet another love to time. And we get a great set up for the villain(s) for next season.
Can't wait for next seasons (and hopefully the Legends won't miss the crossover this time).

  • Supergirl 4x22 Review Make Mine Supergirl - Super Tuesday Recap
For the second season in a row Supergirl has stuck her landing!  More importantly, she did it using her wit and her wheel, and not some feel good speech.  We said it wouldn't work if she could talk Lockwood out of his hatefulness-and the showrunners realized that and avoided that trope.  Lena finally finds out (the wrong way) about Kara's secret and the fact that her entire circle of friends have been gaslighting her.  Tess was "working" for Lex but a pawn in a game of a shadow entity called Leviathan.  The Monitor returns to set up next year's Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover by reviving Lex and bringing J'onn's long lost pissed off brother back into the fold (so much for the last of anything in these universes, may as well not even use that phrase anymore).  The only qualms we had (and they were minor( was Brainiac 5's reversion back to Brainy (although we suspect this will not be the last we see of him) and Ben Lockwood's son becoming an "ally" because he declared it so (he can rot in jail right alongside his trash ass daddy, he was caught on tape committing crimes as well)  Supergirl did what the other Flarrowverse shows failed to do-avoided the Season 4 slump!

  • Booksmart - Movie Trailer Reviews
Kriss, Ro, Brandon and Joi review and discuss Booksmart. Olivia Wilde makes her directorial debut (for a feature length film) with this smart, nuanced comedy. There will be a lot of comparisons and claims that this is the "female Superbad" but that doesn't do this film justice. For one, it's better than Superbad. Way better. This film has all the comedy of that film, is funnier and less problematic. Secondly, this isn't just a comedy "aimed at women". This is a comedy that's great for everyone. This film takes a lot of the tropes from comedies like these and then turns them on their heads. It's fresh, funny and worth the hype.

  • Aladdin - Movie Trailer Reviews
Kriss, Ro and Brandon are joined by Joi to review and discuss the Disney live-action remake of Aladdin. Going into this film, it didn't seem like expectations were that high. So how was the film? It's fine. It's not as bad as something like Dumbo or The Nutcracker and the Four Realms but its also a shell of what the animated film was. The biggest knock against the film are the musical numbers (which...I mean...this is Aladdin...you can't skimp on those).

At the end of the day, it's entertaining enough but also Disney really needs to start putting more effort into these live action remakes (or just stop doing them).

  • Chris Claremont's X-Men Part 1 The Phoenix Saga - Character Corner #75

We didn't plan this but its May and our 75th Character Corner just happens to be the start of our Chris Claremont X-Men series and Claremont started his 17 year X-Men run in May 1975. It's like we were meant to do this. This is probably going to be the closest you get to us doing an X-Men comics podcast. We start at the beginning with Claremont's Phoenix saga which really covers 44 issues to truly understand Jean's evolution as the Phoenix. It fleshes out Jean, her relationship/friendship/sisterhood with Ororo (Storm) and her roommate Misty Knight (yeah...Jean was rooming with Misty Knight). We see that Charles Xavier is kinda an asshole, the first appearance of the Shi'ar, how the new X-Men come together as a family and so much more. Having reread this it makes what Fox has done with two attempts at the Dark Phoenix storyline infuriating. The Phoenix saga isn't about how Jean becomes so powerful she loses control. It's about how Jean Grey sacrifices herself to save her family. Twice. She dies and is reborn as the Phoenix out of love to save the X-Men. The path to her becoming the Dark Phoenix is a slow burn of betrayal. But even then, it ends with her gaining control thanks to her family's willingness to sacrifice everything for her and in the end she sacrifices her life again to save the X-Men. It's a masterful story that's been neutered in the movies.

    Issues:

X-Men Giant Size #1 - Not Claremont but this introduces the new team/characters and sets the stage for Claremont's magic

There are a couple of ways to read this run and Kriss & Dpalm used two different methods.
    Dpalm's Reading List (X-Men/Uncanny X-Men #94 - 138)

    Pre-Phoenix Saga

Uncanny X-Men #94 - 100 - Claremont takes over as the writer of the X-Men and starts building towards Jean becoming the Phoenix
    Uncanny X-Men #94  - First appearance of the Shi'ar
Uncanny X-Men #97 - First (official) appearance of Lilandra

    Phoenix Saga

    Uncanny X-Men 101 - 108

    Proteus Saga

Uncanny X-Men #125 - First Appearance of Proteus
    Uncanny X-Men #127 & #128

    Dark Phoenix Saga

    Uncanny X-Men #129 - 138

129 - First appearances of Hellfire Club (Sebastian Shaw, Emma Frost), Kitty Pryde
132 - First appearance of Harry Leland & Donald Pierce

    Kriss's Reading List (Classic X-Men 1 - 44)

Classic X-Men 1 - 44 tell the same story but also have additional short stories after the main story in each book that are written by Claremont years later that flesh out the characters & story. Examples:

    Classic X-Men #2 - Jean & Storm's forming their friendship
Classic X-Men #3 has the X-Men dealing with/mourning the loss
    of Thunderbird
Classic X-Men #8 - This expands on what actually happened to Jean when she merges with the Phoenix force. It's a deeper explanation of her sacrifice and why the Phoenix bonded with her
Classic X-Men #12 - Magneto's Holocaust origins, losing his daughter in a fire and moving the character into a more sympathetic light

All of the stories are great and really dig into the characters and are must read

  • Cloak & Dagger S2E07-S2E08 Review – Super Tuesday Recap
We're back to review the next two episodes of Marvel's Cloak and Dagger, "Vikingtown Sound" and "Two Player. Visually and emotionally, C&D continues to stun us. Following her loss of hope, Tandy finds herself stuck in a motel with other girls Andre (D'Spayre) and Lia have drained of their will to fight. Tandy's new roommate Del is so brainwashed that even when Tandy wants to run away, she doesn't get far because Del snitches on her.

    courtesy Walt Disney Media

Luckily, Tandy manages to convince Del that Andre and Lia are manipulating her and that her family hadn't given up on her despite what Andre and Lia said. That spark of hope in Del is enough to fuel Tandy's powers and she's able to fight her way out of the motel, just in time for Ty to show up to rescue her.

The situation immediately flips when Ty's powers go haywire and now Tandy, with Evita's help, must journey to the other world to convince Ty to return. She also takes Brigid with her and Brigid is reunited with Mayhem. Brigid makes a deal to give Mayhem control as long as she listens to reason (we'll see how that goes).

    courtesy Walt Disney Media

In order to convince Ty to come home, Tandy plays an old-school style videogame with him that is basically the two of them fighting nameless bad guys to get to the big boss. The production value on this show is bananas! The videogame is fashioned like an old-school Cloak & Dagger comic and Ty and Tandy are dressed like the characters so there's a seamless transition between the game and our characters.

The game Ty is playing is made by Baron Samedi another Voudoun loa or god. While Tandy tries to convince Ty to stop playing, Evita ends up promising to marry the loa in exchange for Ty's return. Now that Evita's married to a god, their relationship is definitely going to get more complicated.

And all of that buries the lede on the real story. TY'S MAMA WENT FULL DEXTER. We said last time that Ty's mom was waaaaaayyyyyyy more dangerous than his dad and that proved to be very true. Let's just say, she's a more dangerous chef than Gordon Ramsay.

Listen to Shanna, Parrish and The Doctor breakdown the episode, the symbolism and the food, on the latest episode of the podcast.

  • Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. S6E2 Window of Opportunity Review - Super Tuesday Recap
We're back for episode 2 of this season of Agents of SHIELD and we have so many questions. Where is "Sarge"/Not-Coulson from? Is AoS getting ahead of Spider-Man Far From Home and establishing the MCU multi-verse? Are Sarge and his team destroying other worlds or just pillaging them before they're destroyed? In space, we have Fitz and this Fitz still hasn't come to terms with what he did in the Framework. It's going to be interesting when this Fitz is finally confronted with Simmons because there's so much to catch up on. Oh and a Melinda May...excuse me...a Disney Legend Melinda May "loss" still means everyone got their asses kicked by her.

  • Get Ya Brooms - Unanimous Decision #137
This week, we celebrate the presumptive NBA Finals match up of Bucks/Warriors, but we've also got a New York correspondent, my good friend Jake to walk us through being at ground zero for both the Knicks not getting the #1 pick and the Jets firing their GM on May 15th. But, we're not just bombing on poorly run excuses of teams; we also get to analyze a few as Jake is a Raiders and Lakers fan. Good times for the whole family

  • Arrow S7E22 You Have Saved This City Review - Super Tuesday Recap
The season 7 finale of Arrow felt more like a series finale than a season finale. We feel that Emiko's story arc got short-changed but we did get the some great moments. We now have questions as to how the future we saw actually happened since this season ended with the team as heroes. But it can't be good. Also seeing Oliver get those small moments of peace with Felicity and infant Maya was great. But then the Monitor shows up and we know that everything has a cost.
