This week the proverbial poo hits the spinning blades this week.  While Kara is able to escape her captivity, it's only to go head to head with Red Daughter and wind up getting the brakes beaten off her.  Surrounding this storyline is Alex rediscovering the memories J'onn erased, potentially triggered by the stress of the adoption falling through and the realization that the adoption was designed to fill a hole she didn't realize existed in her life. Chyler Leigh delivered a masterful and emotional performance, even in the wake of us screaming at the teleivision "THAT IS NOT HOW SUNLIGHT WORKS!"  Meanwhile, Brainiac 5 is unleashed when Brainy, Nia and J'onn go undercover to discover where the captured aliens are being sent and Brainy is tortured.  This causes him to turn on Nia and J'onn and use them as pawns in his plan.  Is this the seeding of next year's big bad? Lockwood learns that much like most of the White men in American government he got his job through manipulation and connections and not any real talent or intelligence of his own.  Finally, Red Daughter pays the ultimate price for trusting Lex.

John Wick is back for Chapter 3 and he's killing even more people. Seriously, you know what you're getting with this series and it knows it's audience. This is a film and a franchise that knows how to deliver what ppl want. Sure, the story that's being added to expand the franchise might be a bit much but it all centers around the action and John Wick's abilities. So you're never disappointed. This film jumps right in and never slows down. Just what we want.

At this rate Barry isn't gonna have any family left for Thawne to kill. I mean...Thawne has now both given Barry a daughter now taken her away. Without even lifting a finger. Thawne might be the greastest speedster. As he said, he's the only speedster that can manipulate the timeline to get what he wants. Damn he's good.

Also we like seeing Cisco happy (giving up his powers to be his own man), Captain Joe West has a good ring to it and bring on Sue Dibny...we mean Sue Dearborn...we're here for it. Baby...Adult Giraffe has earned it. Ralph was great this season. And now...it's a race to Crisis. Let's go.

The penultimate episode of Season 4 of Legends of Tomorrow is here and for the first time this season we have an issue with an episode. Gary is the quintessential male nerd who blames everyone but himself for why no one wants to be friends with him. Having Sara, Ava and the other Legends apologize and then tell Gary he is an interim Legend. No. Gary is terrible. He's the worst kind of "nerd" who doesn't understand boundaries, is creepy and tries to insert themselves into the lives of people who don't want him there. The Legends already have two awkward nerds (Ray & Nate) who integrated just fine. We're really hoping the Season Finale really drives home that fact that Gary isn't a hero but is part of the problem. Outside of that, the rest of the episode was great. We really love Brandon Routh as a villain

The world's best sport's show is back with your officially unofficial MTR Preview of the NBA Draft Lottery and NBA Conference Finals. Before the Knicks land Zion and Dame cooks Steph, enjoy your favorite* host recapping the road to how we got to the conference finals, pitching Atlanta as a landing spot for Zion and laughing at the Lakers. I love this game.

You know what time it is. The Champ is back. Agents of Shield Season 6. We back baby.

So where does this fit in the MCU/Endgame timeline? We're gonna be honest...we don't care and it doesn't matter.  Maybe they'll address it later in the season. Maybe they won't. But the reality is, Agents of Shield has been holding its own for a while now so all that really matters is: Will we continue to get a great story? And all signs point to yes. We don't have enough info yet to really know what's going on but we do know that the team is split between two different missions, it's been a year since we last saw them, our Coulson is dead and Mack is the Director and trying to rebuild shield. Strap in, we're in for a ride.

Oh and shout out to Agents Piper and Davis for being elevated to the A Squad.

One more episode left of Arrow this season and it's not going to end well for Team Arrow. We really think Emiko is going to end up succeeding (at least partially). Star City is going to suffer a terrorist attack. The Glades will be spared. Team Arrow will be blamed. And Rene will do whatever he can to save his own skin and snitch on the team. Once a snitch, always a snitch.

I say this with all due respect, we CANNOT watch this many episodes of Cloak & Dagger in a row again. Not because the show isn't amazing (it is) and not because the show drags (it doesn't); it's because Marvel's Cloak & Dagger has some of the most realistic portrayals of trauma and abuse that we've ever seen masked in a superhero show.

First off, the show is best taken in two episode chunks. Coming off of the two-hour finale, the next two hours, Shadow Selves and Rabbit Hold, are mainly focused on Mayhem and the time between seasons one and two. Mayhem did not recently split from Brigid as we guessed, she's been split for the past eight months. Mayhem holds all of Brigid's anger and ambition as well as her memories up to the split so she's out to find Connors and get revenge for what he did to her and Fuchs. Unfortunately, Connors is currently residing in some dark world that Ty sucked him into. Because she can't find him, Mayhem shifts her focus to finding the missing girls which is where we pick up her story in the present day. She's trying to convince Tandy that they can be partners and Tandy is not too hard to convince since she's been playing the avenging angel role herself.

All of this puts Brigid in an awkward place. She's lost her aggression and her drive for justice. She can't even shoot a gun anymore. We're not sure what the show is trying to say about how Brigid's aggression connects to her ability to get her job done but this meek Brigid is not going to cut it and Mina's experiments on river-dipped rats shows that the meek ones don't survive the aggression of their counterparts.

In the next two episodes, Alignment Chart and B Sides, the focus shifts to Tandy. She and Ty find the missing girls but they are unsure who's taken them. And after Tandy discovers that Ty can absorb people into a dark dimension, she goes in after Connors and Mayhem to see what she can find. What she discovers is a lot of crazy metaphors that amount to, Tandy it's time to deal with your shit. In a "record store", she finds records that represent the missing girls. All of them, like Tandy, have experienced trauma and each record represents their despair. When Tandy digs through the crates of her own past, she finds some pretty heartbreaking moments (and some really great music). And the person cataloging all this despair is none other than Andre, with an assist from Lia.

Andre also gained powers in the Roxxon explosion. He feeds off of despair and has been selecting girls to drain of hope. He becomes a perfect foil for Tandy whose power is fueled by hope. In order to destroy her hope, Andre takes Tandy through a bunch of alternate scenarios of her life. One where Billy and her father never died but she and Ty remained friends. Another where she's an engineer and she and Ty meet at the rig. Yet another where she's a grifter and a junkie and she meets Ty while he's boosting cars. In every scenario, Ty is her constant and once Andre realizes that, he kills Ty, essentially killing the source of Tandy's hope. We end this block of episodes with a hopeless Tandy being taken to a motel where she'll presumably be trafficked.

Whew. Is everyone okay? We discuss all the in's and out's of these episodes and try not to fall into despair. Everything is fine. Everything is awesome awful.

The bar is in the gutter for movies based off of video games and so Detective Pikachu didn't have to do much to impress. And yet...it's still forgettable. The fan service and Ryan Reynolds will be enough for some while others continue to wonder why studios keep making these poor attempts with little effort. Look on the bright side...at least this isn't the travesty that will be the Sonic The Hedgehog movie.

Kriss, Brandon, and Ro discuss Tolkien and what's supposed to be a film exploring the author's friendships, love, and artistic inspiration in his formative years but turns into three story arcs that never quite get the respect or attention they deserve on screen. The film starts when he's a young child and continues into the aftermath of World War I. Not a single member of the crew felt like the directorial decision (and editing) to frame his life with the purpose of playing into the concept of “fellowship” with heavy-handed inferences to Tolkien's Lord of the Ring books resulted in a film that barely bothers to skim beneath the surface of Tolkien's life to the emotions that made the man. Kriss and Brandon walked out of the film asking, "but, why?"

As far as being enough story to qualify as a good costume drama, this ain't it.

This is Ro's fault for asking, "are we gonna talk about this one?"
