My Morning Devotional

Join me, Alison Elizabeth as we continue our Advent 2020 prayers. Today we are reading out of Mark 16:15 which says "He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation."

"Meaning every person you come into contact today, tomorrow, and on Sunday, may you look at them, speak to them, help them, as if it was Jesus himself speaking. We are to preach the gospel and that means we are to live the gospel. Yesterday we talked about how good God is, and how his sacrifice is what frees us from our bondage. The world deserves to live in that same freedom.

So I hope you walk around like the light of the world. I hope you walk about with joy. I hope when people ask you, (people will ask you) why are you so happy? How can you have a smile on your face look around you? With everything going on in your life right now, how do you have the faith and the strength? I hope you say because I met a man, and his name is Jesus.

I don’t know if you know this, but He has given you the authority to declare the goodness of God. He has given you the authority to love on others. He has given you the authority to declare miracles, He has given you the authority to change the world. So walk in that authority.

Your attitude and actions, your words, and your demeanor can do so much more for the Gospel than calling people out for their shortcomings. I hope we are a generation of Christians known for loving the world not condemning it. Then we will truly do the work that Jesus called us to do."

Today we are reading out of Isaiah 1:18 which says "“Come now, let us settle the matter, says the Lord. “Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow, though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool."

"Notice how it says “Come now, let us settle the matter” almost like let’s just say this one time for all. Though our sins are like scarlet. Pause - that essentially says, there is no denying that we sin. Every day we fall short. We lose our tempers, battle with worldly temptations and sometimes we give into them. We gossip at times. We may fall too temptation. We may do something that is out of character. The list can go on and on. So once we accept that some of our behaviors are short of righteous, then we can hand them over freely to Jesus.

Why? Well because with God we are white like snow. Everyday we get to wake up and decide we are going to live a life after God’s own heart. We get to choose, and when we choose to accept what happened 2,000+ years ago on the cross we can walk in the pureness of his grace.

He took our sins, and he buried them in the grave. He took our addictions, our short comings, our tempers, our selfishness, our impulses, and we took care of them. So that we may walk in freedom.

It’s exciting because everyday we do this, everyday we choose to walk alongside Him, we grow. We become better. We become wiser. We become more like Him."

Join me, Alison Elizabeth as we continue our Advent 2020 prayers. Today we are reading out of Matthew 5:14-16 which says "14 “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven."

"In this verse, Jesus is talking. He tells us “You are the light of the world”. So often we walk around, not as if we are the light of this world, but as if we were carrying the weight of this world.

We walk around nervous, and always stressed. Everything needs to be done fast. We live on IG. We see small pockets of perfect images in a persons life and we compare them to ours. Election season had us all nervous. Natural disasters shakes us to our core. The pandemic knocked us all off our feet and made us reimagine how to work and live in a socially distanced world.

I love that this verse continues to say a town built on a hill cannot be hidden. I am not sure if you’ve ever driven through a mountain, but if you have and you look up, you can spot that big beautiful house on the top of the mountain a mile away. Jesus continues to illustrate the example of a lamp in a house. We don’t cover it, no we allow it to shed light for the whole house.

In the same way, the light inside of us - you know, the one that was sparked by God alone, must shone for that the world can see the goodness of God at work in your life. This is why I constantly celebrate both my valleys and my mountain tops. I share my testimony. I hope you share yours. Extend the grace God gave you to others. Serve others as He served you in your life. Become the hands and feet of Jesus."

We are reading out of Romans 15:13 which says "I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit."

"This verse is beautiful. It never gets old, I know we prayed over this verse a few months ago, but every time you read it, and every time I read it, we can go further in revelation as it continues to speak to us in different seasons.

I like that it says I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in Him.

It’s almost like a math problem.

If Jesus had one jar of hope and Alison had 10lbs of trust, how much joy and peace will Jesus give Alison? ... "

"Imagine hundreds of years. Generation after generation. Living by the law. Waiting for God to come, and then one night a star appears. When the people saw the star, they were overjoyed. They knew their king had come. He was a baby. He was 33 years away from sacrificing His life, but they were still over joyed.

I am here to remind you. You may have dreams, God dreams and maybe they haven’t come to fruition, but God sends us a star so that we may have hope. So look for the stars in your life, they are all around. It might take 33 years for you to see the full picture of this God-dream, but your hope should be in Jesus the whole way through.

Be overjoyed. Put your Hope in Him!"

Join me, Alison Elizabeth as we continue to pray together during this Advent season. Today is our 5th Advent prayer and we are reading out of Psalm 34:8 which says "Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him."

"Taste and see that the Lord is good. We are blessed friends. We are blessed because everyday we find time to get alone with Him. Through prayer on our own time, worshiping in the car, or turning into this podcast. There are a million ways you can get the word of God into your spirit. When we do so, we are able to bask in his goodness. We remind ourselves who is in charge. We remember that we don’t have to go at this life alone.


John 10:11 says “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd sacrifices his life for the sheep.”

 
God is good. He is a good good father and we can live confident in that truth today, tomorrow, and Sunday. No matter how far you run from Him, he is always there, ready to work on your relationship. He is a father that will protect you and a friend you can confide in. He laid down His life for you."

Join me Alison Elizabeth as we prepare for our Advent Day 4 prayer. Today we will be reading out of Romans 6:23 which says "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."

"In Romans 5:19 it says “Because one person disobeyed God, many became sinners. But because one other person obeyed God, many will be made righteous.” This verse is talking about what happened at the tree of life when this all began. It’s talking about how when Adam and Eve ate from the tree of knowledge, which is known as “The Fall” everyone after them became sinners. Again, to sin means to fall short of perfection, which we all do.

But then it says because one other person, - Jesus - obeyed God, many will be made righteous.

This baby that we celebrate in just 22 days, is a boy who became a man and sacrificed His life, so that you and I may live in the wonder and freedom of God. The verse from today says the gift of God is eternal life. Eternal. Eternity. We get to spend forever basking in light and in love. That doesn’t mean when we get to heaven. It means now. Here and now. There are beautiful wins all around you. Look for the beauty, look for the wonder, look for His fingerprints. Look at how he orchestrates everything without you even realizing.

Take 5 minutes today to be thankful you get to live in the beauty of eternity here on Earth, and one day, in heaven with Jesus."

Join me, Alison Elizabeth as we pray over our third prayer for Advent 2020! Today we are reading out of Psalm 19:1 which says "The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands."

"This verse says the heavens declare the glory of God, the skies proclaim the work of his hands.  It’s true. When you take a trip to the mountains, when you get out of the city and when you look up, aren’t you in awe of the stars? He created them. Placed them in their exact spots across the universe.

Not only is God this big God, creator of the universe, but he is small and personal. Created you with your features.

When we look to nature we can see His hand at work. The circle of life is what they call it, but to me it’s like a circle of love. God made it so the birds never have to worry about eating. If they don’t worry why should we?

Romans 1:20 says

For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities - His eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God.

WOW

That verse put’s everything in perspective. Let’s go outside today, and for five minutes, get off your phone and either walk around the block or sit on a porch and drink a hot cup of coffee if it’s too cold where you live. Look at the majesty of our creator and think to yourself. If the stars light up the darkest of nights, imagine what our love can do in the life of others."

Join me, Alison Elizabeth as we pray over Advent Day 2 - 2020. Today we will be reading out of 1 Peter 2:24 which says "“He himself bore our sins” in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; “by his wounds you have been healed."

"We get to shout VICTORY when we look at strongholds and obstacles. We get to look at the face of whatever is holding us, hurting us, stumping our growth and we can declare that God already won the battle. All we need to do is believe.

In the book of John, chapter 5 verse 4 it says:

24 “I tell you the truth, those who listen to my message and believe in God who sent me have eternal life. They will never be condemned for their sins, but they have already passed from death into life.

So yes, this month is absolutely about gifts. The gift of victory over our life. The gift of freedom. The gift of a child, who grew to become a man who would save the world from itself. Who saved you from yourself.

Maybe you dread this month because gift giving ranks 5 in your list of love languages and you are less than excited for the next three weeks. (If you know nothing about the love languages, you just need to know there are five kinds of languages.) But maybe it goes deeper than that. Maybe you’re just tired and you don’t think you have the strength anymore, these morning prayers serve as a reminder that you’ve got this, not by your doing but because He already took care of it."

Join me, Alison Elizabeth as we start ADVENT 2020. Today we are reading out of Romans 5:8 which says "But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us."

"Just for five minutes a day let’s forget about the chaos that comes with the mall in this season, and let’s remember his never ending love.

 The Bible repeats how much he loves us, so many times. Today’s verse reminds us that while we were still sinners Christ died of us. Sinner gets such a tainted view that you read that word, and you feel distant from it. You can’t see yourself as a “sinner” because you don’t cheat or kill or steal. But your greed, selfishness, and addictions to worldly things is what makes you fall short of perfection. Christ saw that in us, and he saw that in you and he said you were worth dying for.

In 1 John 4:9 it says 9 This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him.

Jesus gave us life through him. That nothing may be weighed over our heads. He took that to the grave. This is the person we celebrate this season. The man that gave us the freedom we live in today. Thank you Jesus!"
