"Asking for help can be hard sometimes. Our ego’s don’t allow for us to be vulnerable. Some of us fear the feeling of being weak or needing help. I know I can sometimes fear growing old because I never want to be in a situation where I can’t care for myself. This is something I’m working on.

 

But like in everything, there are seasons. Seasons in which you can help others, serve others, poor into others but there are also seasons in which you need to be poured into. You need to be served. You need help."

"I was praying because I struggle with self image from time to time. It's something Ive carried into my adult life since I was in middle school. My self-image and my worth for a long time came from the number on the scale and as that number would increase my self esteem of would decrease. 

 

I don't know what about you gets you in a funk. Maybe your hair isn't straight enough or curly enough. Maybe your eyes aren't big enough or are too big. I don't know we all find something to always nit pick. Maybe it's the size of certain parts of our bodies. Society has defined beauty for too long for both men and women. 

 

Men, it's okay if you aren't strong enough. 

Women, it's okay if your waist isn't small enough. 

 

Our "enoughs" can't be weighed against what the world deems beautiful. We have to start treating our bodies with the love and respect it deserves. Our creator made us like this. Our creator gave us these gifts. "

"We, here on earth are all connected. We are all brothers and sisters. Everyone knows someone. You can connect two of the most random people on the planet together by a thread to people.

 

Our job is to spread the gospel. The only way to do that is through love. Jesus is love. I said the scripture verse last week: Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. (1 John 4:8)

 

We must continue to push for one another. We must continue to stand by what is right and hold onto truth. We must love one another. We must. It’s our only job."

Join me, Alison Elizabeth as we read Ecclesiastes 3:11 which says "He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end."

"It means we must trust that His timing is perfect timing. If your future spouse hasn't walked into your life yet, it's because it's not the right time. If you and your husband/wife are trying to have a baby and it hasn't happened yet, it's because it's not the right time. 

 

God uses the time between our prayers as the breeding ground for our faith. 

 

He needs you to trust him in the waiting. And when it does happen, we can walk in the full confidence that all things will be made beautiful. 

 

The second part to this verse says that he set eternity in the human heart yet no man can fathom what God has done from beginning to end. 

 

It get's me excited because we all have an idea of how big God is. He created the Universe! He created the stars and the galaxy and the planets. He is such a big God, yet he also knows your name and how many hairs on your head. He knows your inner most thoughts. He deposited His spirit inside you. He is so personal and small. "

"Sometimes life can be blurry. Maybe just maybe you are in a season in life in which you need clarity. I have been there more times than I like to admit. At least once a month and I tell myself “what am I doing for the rest of my life” the answer is clear when I pray. I want to live a life after God's own heart. Share his love and his teaching with the people around me. 

 

It wasn't always so clear, but when you look to the Lord, and you fix your eyes on Jesus, when you make Him your strength, when you seek Him - things become less blurry. The vision you have, the life you are working to live for, it all becomes clearer. So fix your line of vision, and fix your eyes on Him."

Join me, Alison Elizabeth as we read out of Exodus 15:2 which says "“The LORD is my strength and my defense ; he has become my salvation. He is my God, and I will praise him, my father’s God, and I will exalt him."

"Our stories hold power. Some of us have grown up as Christians in church our whole lives. Some of us have strayed away and something brought us back. Others of us, had no understanding of Jesus until we were in our mid to late twenties - or even mid to late sixties. 

 

No person, no story, to testimony is too “boring” for God. 

 

While our stories may be different, my prayer is that our responses are the same. This verse is the response to my testimony - in 2012 my life would change forever and I didn't know it yet. I didn't have a prayer routine, I had read very little of the bible, yet Jesus was my strength and my defense. There was a time in my life where everything went wrong. Years of pain and loss. I had just about enough of it and I heard the words “come to my house” - I knew it was God. And like the verse says, He became my salvation."

"You have a good character. You are taking 5 minutes out of your day to listen to scripture. It doesn't matter what you've done, or who you were in the past, what matters is that right here right now, on October 13th 2020 you tuned into a devotional podcast - looking to hear from God.

 

Everyday we get the choice to serve our living and loving God, or we get the choice to surround ourselves with different people and different habits that are anything but God's best for you. 

 

Be thankful for the people you have in your life. Call them, catch up. See how they've been doing during quarantine. 

 

Ecclesiastes 4:10 says “If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up.”

 

Make it your mission to be the good character in the life of your close friends and family. Listen to their needs and serve them where you can. 

 

If you're in a place where you think you need new people in your life, pray for them. Remember yesterday's devotional. Make your list and check it twice - ask God for the kind of people you want to be surrounded with. "

Join me, Alison Elizabeth as we read Mark 11:22-24 which says "22 “Have faith in God,” Jesus answered. 23 “TrulyI tell you, if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and does not doubt in their heart but believes that what they say will happen, it will be done for them. 24 Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours."

"Much like wedding dress shopping, life can be similar. We have a picture in our head of what we want. A healthy long life. Filled with loved ones. Filled with memories. Filled with supernatural favor. We make a list of the elements that make up the life we want to live - and we pray for them. Everyday. We pray that Jesus blesses our days. We pray He walks with us in every season. We know He does, but prayer gives us that comfort that He is listening. 

We hope that our wishes will come true, and 10/10 times God outdoes our wishes. Sometimes He blesses us immediately, other times He does it ten years down the road. It really is according to His time. 

I love this verse because Jesus is telling us to ask for the things we want. “Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours" This is a huge deal. We have the power to ask for health and receive it. We have the power to ask for traits in a future spouse and receive it. The one condition is that we must ask in prayer.  

So I hope this inspires you to take time out of your day today. Right down your list. What are you asking for? Is it a sable income? Is it a spouse? Is it health? Is it a new circle of faith-filled friends? Is it a new business or career? What do you need? Make a list, check it twice and pray for it."

Join me, Alison Elizabeth as we read Matthew 11:28-30 which says "28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

"God is asking us to strap ourselves next to Him. He is asking us to learn from him. He is gentle and humble in heart. Our souls can find rest in Him. 

This life doesn't have to be hard. We just need to walk side by side with Him. We need to learn from Him. 

When God created the world, he rested on the seventh day. We should be doing that too. This weekend find a day to get alone with God. Mark 6:31 says “Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.” 

Find alone time with Him everyday. What ever it is that you are walking through, walk with Jesus."

"Like indulging and over eating, or being greedy with your money. Maybe it's the temptation of gossip when ever it presents itself, or even the will to be lazy at all given moments. 

 

Believe it or not, these are all forms of temptation, designed to move you further away from the life you were intended to read. 

 

This verse says even if you suffer for what is right, you are blessed and that statement is so true. We might quote on quote suffer when we have to say no to those habits or walk away from those people, but the truth is every time we do that, we walk one step closer into the promises of God..."
