All too often, the legislative efforts and policy debates about personal finance education leave out an all important voice: the student. That's why I was so happy for the opportunity to talk to Jack and Nick about their efforts to move the state of Rhode Island forward in improving access to financial education. In this podcast, you will hear about the motivation behind their advocacy efforts, their "elevator pitch" to legislators and what they have personally gained by taking Pat Page's Personal Finance class (Pat is an NGPF Fellow). Subsequent to this podcast, the finance education bill finds itself in that all too common place of "legislative limbo." Given Jack and Nick's determination, I anticipate legislators have not seen the last of them. I suspect that we will see them making repeat appearances at the RI State House until legislators act on this consequential bill.
The NGPF Podcast goes international in this conversation with Alero Awoyemi, the passionate leader of a financial education non-profit called Proshare Foundation. Enjoy!
Phil reached out to me about a year ago via email to schedule a meeting during his trip to the States from Australia. Our paths crossed at the Dover, Delaware FinCamp in the spring which was fortuitous given the logistical challenges he encountered while en route.
As a recipient of the prestigious Churchill Fellowship, Phil chose to investigate innovative methods of equipping teenagers with essential financial skills for life in the U.K., U.S. and Canada. In this podcast, he shares what he learned in his travels which included meetings with over 60 movers and shakers in the financial education field. You will be fascinated to learn about the similarities and differences that Phil found in his research across these three countries. Enjoy!

Their teacher, Brian Page, shared Anna and Carly's term paper "Balancing American Education" which should be required reading for all school administrators and state legislators. Their paper highlights the problem of financial literacy, its financial and social emotional consequences and the solutions. Having had the benefit of a course at their high school, they make an impassioned plea that all students should also enjoy similar benefits. Enjoy!
