In this engaging podcast, Scott shares his inspiration for FinMango and the early successes his organization has seen.
It's conversations like these that provide such clear evidence about the impact that finance education can have on young people's lives. Preenon Huq benefited greatly from taking NGPF Fellow's James Redelsheimer's class while a student at Robbinsdale Armstrong High School (MN). It's a course that is still paying dividends for him today (sorry but I couldn't resist). Listen to how Preenon has navigated his way to a rewarding career path and how he's giving back to the school and teacher that made a difference in his life. Enjoy this inspiring podcast!
Marc, Julie and Gary share their experiences running four personal finance workshops at Harding Middle School in Des Moines. "The sooner the better" is a great answer to the question, "what is the right age for students to receive financial education?" Listen to the highlights of their work in the classroom as well as their observations about what middle school students are most interested in when it comes to money. Enjoy!
Monk, personal finance educator, Marine and financial advisor. That's just part of Doug Lynam's CV which makes for a fascinating podcast. Doug shares how each of these experiences has shaped him and ultimately led to his current calling as a money manager. Doug also describes the motivation and key insights from his current book, From Monk to Money Manager. Enjoy!
Alex Todd likes challenges. Whether that means building a financial education program from scratch at Elizabethtown High School in Kentucky or coaching the boy's basketball team to another winning season. His love of challenges and his passion for financial education created what many may have thought was an unattainable goal. That goal, to ensure that ALL high school students in Kentucky would take a personal finance course before leaving high school, became a personal quest. In this podcast, Alex describes his amazing decade-long journey, what motivated him to persist and what he learned along the way. Enjoy!
Investment consultant to large institutions by day and author, educator and advocate by night aptly describes Gene Natali and the multiple hats he wears. I first met Gene at the JumpStart National Educator Conference where he delivered a rousing keynote address that captured the audience's attention. Pulling from the best of behavioral finance, he frames financial issues in a manner that demonstrates the long-term impact of decisions. This will make even the most impulsive young person think twice before making that car buying decision or motivate them to learn more about ROTH IRAs. As you will hear in this podcast, Gene's an incredible advocate who's impacting students in Pennsylvania and nationally. Enjoy!
Evan Marwell was a man on a mission when he founded EducationSuperHighway in 2012. A data driven entrepreneur he analyzed technology at K-12 schools and didn't like what he saw. While many assumed that schools had adequate bandwidth to deliver new edtech tools into classrooms, what he found was a huge difference between that perception and reality. So he created a non-profit to create a new reality. Evan will take us on his entrepreneurial journey over the past 7 years, his lessons learned along the way with tips for any social entrepreneur striving for large-scale change. Enjoy!
Educators know how challenging it can be to explain personal finance concepts to their students. Now imagine if you had the additional challenge of explaining these concepts on one side of a cocktail napkin. That is Tina Hay's passion and her business. Napkin Finance has come on the scene and gained traction with millions of consumers with a concept summarized on their website as "Money Simplified." Hear Tina describe her entrepreneurial journey, how she partnered with the White House and the most popular napkins in their collection. Enjoy!
I met Nic recently in Madison, Wisconsin where he received the 2018 Governor's Financial Literacy Award from Governor Tony Evers. Nic has established a program at Milton High School (which he also attended) where EVERY student creates an Academic and Career Plan which they present as a senior project to their classmates and members of the community.
In this podcast, you will learn more about why Nic is so passionate about financial education, how he implements this capstone project with his students and the impact of his work in the community. Enjoy!
