Fundraising works best when it’s relational. Everyone says that, but what does it actually mean?
It means that your donors are in a bi-directional relationship with your organization in which they donate contribute funds and support and the organization offers them an opportunity to participate in having an impact on the world that they care very deeply about.
It means that the most effective fundraising enters a conversation already happening inside the minds of your ideal donors and attempts to see the world the way they see it. You have to find people who have an affinity for the mission - a deep connection to the outcomes that your organization is working towards… the shared vision of the better world you’re creating.
This week's episode shares a quick and powerful strategy for identifying your ideal donor!

One of the toughest things about growing an org is capacity - and more precisely, calibrating the capacity you need with what you actually have the funding to pay for.
In this episode, I talk about how to think about hiring Consultants, Fellows, Fractional Support, and Virtual Assistants (VAs) to build out your capacity - for less money.
I also mention the following resources:

These mindset shifts are foundational for letting go of outdated strategies, leaning into high-level fundraising activities, and transforming the way leaders engage with stakeholders.

Throughout this series, I’ve been making the argument that the best way to grow your organization is not to focus on budget or staff or board size as the key metric, but instead, to notch down and focus on the stage of development -- the specific characteristics and goals of each stage, and the clarity, capacity, and capital milestones that are aligned with where you are.
In this final series episode, I’m going to paint the picture of an adult organization. You'll learn:

Nonprofit growth isn't linear. It's messy and winding and full of stops and starts. That's why knowing where you are in the process is absolutely critical. Being able to anchor yourself to the right milestones... to face the right challenges... and to take the right next step is how you navigate the chaos of the childhood phase.
In this episode, I talk about how the stages of development can apply differently to different parts of an organization. For example, an organization's fundraising can be at one stage of development, and its board at another.
I also talk about the characteristics of the post-start-up-pre-growth stage: Childhood. The chaos inherent in being nimble and responsive, and the goals that a leader must set if the organization is to move safely and sustainably into the growth phase.
