  • Nos Audietis, Episode 310: Getting to know Peter Tomazawa

Back in July, the Seattle Sounders hired their first ever President of Business Operations. At the same time, Peter Tomazawa also became a part owner of the team. We first got to know Tomazawa during a conversation with reporters back in August. But we figured it would be good to check in with him again now that he’s been on the job for a few months.

Tomazawa is clearly enjoying his new role. At MLS Cup, he related a story where he told MLS Commissioner Don Garber that he should get used to coming to Seattle for MLS Cup because Tomazawa intends to be hosting it regularly. He says that not just as someone who works for the team, but as someone who is also a fan. The Tomazawas have been season-ticket holders since moving here in 2015 in order to give their son a chance to play for the Sounders Academy.

    Hope you enjoy the interview.

  • The Socceresq Podcast (Episode 15): Midwest Movers and Shakers
While the LA Galaxy seem poised to grab the spotlight with the acquisition of Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez, both Sporting Kansas City and the Columbus Crew have spent some major cash in acquiring Liga MX stars Alan Pulido and Lucas Zelarayán to bolster their lineups. Both acquisitions represent something of a change of philosophy for the mid-market sides, and an acknowledgement that you've got to spend money to compete in MLS.
To discuss the signings, Andy Edwards of "Talking Touches" and Jacob Myers of the Columbus Dispatch joined me to talk about the impact of the deals, what it means for the teams--and mid-market sides in MLS generally.

  • Bear With Us, Episode 5: Catching up on the offseason

While the Seattle Sounders have not been particularly active this offseason, Will Bruin has been doing his best to get ready as close to the start of the season as possible. The good news is that he says he should be back in full training in less than a month and could plausibly be ready to start by the end of March.

Of course, all work and no play makes a bear go wild. Will found some time to visit family, as well as visit Hawaii while doing his best to keep up on the training regimen passed along by Sounders training.

We also got Will’s advice on things like managing a Seattle winter and proper Twitter etiquette.

  • Nos Audietis, Episode 309: Apparently a SuperDraft happened

We recorded before today’s SuperDraft, but that didn’t stop us from talking about how we don’t have very high expectations for it anyway. We also answered a ton of your questions.

  • The Socceresq Podcast (Episode 14): Growing Pains on Nashville SC's Road to MLS
The offseason for MLS is in full swing, though there are questions about whether we’ll see a 2020 MLS season start on time, with the lack of a new CBA (more on that in a future podcast).
In the meantime, two of the newest expansion teams (Inter Miami and Nashville SC) continue their preparations for the 2020 season. Nashville SC in particular has been in the news recently, with reports that their season ticket sales are lagging their expansion brethren, as well as recent entrants to MLS such as Atlanta United, Minnesota United and Orlando City.
There are also concerns about the roster build of the team, and the stadium plans which have them building a new 30,000 seat stadium, though those have been best by lawsuits and the usual political problems.
To discuss these issues, I called up Tim Sullivan of Club and Country, a site dedicated to all things Nashville SC, to check on the progress of the team, to see there is cause of concern in light of those reports, and where he seems the team going as they prepare for the 2020 season.
