BASE jumper Iiro Seppänen joins me this week to tell me about his fear of not living enough. Iiro has lived a pretty fascinating and unusual life, and I was interested in the irony of his fear, given that he used to put his life in danger with every single jump. I wanted to understand how Iiro processes fear and how he managed the fear when doing such an extreme sport. I was curious to know if I could relate to this feeling in any way – the idea of wanting to jump from these enormous heights is pretty alien to me. How does he find the courage to take such huge risks and how does he utilise his fear?
Also just a warning - there’s a quite graphic description of an accident in this episode which might not be suitable for everyone.
