Malik's Bio: Malik Keene is an addiction recovery coach, sobriety life coach, and certified peer recovery specialist. He has been clean from alcohol and drugs since September 2021, abstinent from gambling since March 2022, clean from alcohol and drugs since September 2021 and overcame a nicotine addiction/smoking cigarettes in October 2023. Malik is also the successful owner of K&M Delivery/Moving Inc. (https://www.KMmovinginc.com), a business he has operated since 2001. In 2021, during his time in rehab, Malik discovered his true passion and God-given purpose: to help others who are struggling with addiction or have relapsed. His mission is to guide individuals who desire to stop their addictive behaviors and begin their recovery journey. In just over three years of recovery, Malik has already impacted over 100 peers in active addiction. He has provided resources, served as a mentor, led support groups, and sponsored individuals. Along the journey, he encourages them through challenging situations and assists with setting short- and long-term goals. Malik has patiently supported people during their most vulnerable times, such as those who have self-excluded from the gambling, going through bankruptcy, financial difficulties, hospital visits following overdoses or suicide attempts, encouraging those facing legal troubles and coaching individuals who feel like they just want to give up. Malik has volunteered with Tree of Hope, serves as a Peer Recovery Specialist for the Massachusetts Council on Gaming and Health, and works with the Lived Experience Advisory Panel (LEAP) program. He has worked full-time with Maryland Treatment Centers and the Stop Triage Engage Educate Rehabilitate (STEER) Program in Montgomery County, Maryland. Malik has shared his story on various platforms, including rehab facilities, shelters, Gamblers Anonymous (GA) meetings, and Alcohol Anonymous (AA) meetings. MOSAIC Consulting and Counseling Services have featured his recovery story, and his testimony of overcoming gambling has been shared in Africa, inspiring and also helping many compulsive gamblers throughout the U.S. Malik recently launched Amazing Grace Recovery, LLC, and plans to help thousands break free from the chains of addiction with his signature step-by-step method.

In this video, I had a great conversation with Sean from Australia about his story of gambling addiction and subsequent recovery journey.

Sean's Bio: In 2022, Sean sat and cried in his gambling Counsellor's room after she asked if he thought he would ever get Abstinant. After 8 years of gambling, his disbelief in his ability to get "clean" was so strong that it almost cost him his lifetwice. It cost him all the money he had ever made - and more - and deeply affected his Christian faith and friendships. Now, Sean attends a local G.A. meeting, meets weekly with his sponsor to work through the 12 steps, and in his spare time writes poetry for instagram where he tries to understand his past and hope for his future; all whilst only living in today. Matt Smith is Director of External Affairs for UK charity Betknowmore and has lived experience of gambling harm with 10 years in continuous recovery.

Matt is part of the senior management team at https://www.betknowmoreuk.org/ building relationships with stakeholders across the gambling sector including work on their communications, policy strategy as well as international development.

His working background was in the broadcast media industry where he spent over a decade working in management for UK radio station talkSPORT heading up major live sports events.
