Greg Swartz and the team at Blacksmith & Jones are responsible for a number of notable documentaries. Those of us in the whisky-o-sphere surely know of "Water of Life Film," a documentary around the history and craft of Scotch whisky, or perhaps "Independent Spirits," which focused on Independent Bottlers (The J-Team are proud to have been featured in this film!).

Today we sit down with Greg to discuss his latest film, "West of Tradition" which focuses on American Single Malt Whisky. So much fun was had during this conversation and we got to understand a fair bit about the film making process. Joshua & Jason always enjoy their time with Greg but this conversation was especially good.

With their various travel schedules, it's not often everyone on the J-Team has a chance to meet in the same place at the same time -- apparently running a global independent bottling company is a lot of work, and with the 3 of us living in different states & countries, their calendars don't always line up.

Joshua & Jess bring up a recent Spirits Business article that discusses proposed changes to Irish Potstill Whiskey; changes that would not only expand the range of flavors but also tie the spirit close to the country's history & heritage.

Back in 2018 Joshua & Jason decided to mothball the Whisky Jewbilee in order to focus on the growth of Single Cask Nation. Mothball is the key term here as in implies the thing being mothballed can be taken out again. 

As Joshua, Jason, and Jess prepare for Whisky Jewbilee 2026 in Chicago (tickets can be purchased here: https://bit.ly/WhiskyJewbilee2026) they took a bit of time to look back at what happened in 2018 and gave an older episode a listen. Here's your chance to do the very same. Boy, was this great to revisit. We can't wait until Thursday, Oct 15th when we get to experience Whisky Jewbilee all over again.
