Imagine being a successful working actor, booking movie after movie, show after show, and being the envy of your peers.
Chris Browning, American film and television actor, was living the dream before succumbing to an addiction so powerful that he ended up losing his home and began a life of homelessness, winding up in an encampment under LA’s infamous 405 freeway.
But what would you do if while getting sober, there was a casting call for a small part in a big film, and they were looking for bad guys, bad guys that needed to die? Would you decide to pass and wait for the kind of roles you’d been playing before? Or would you take the part and become that guy that died in the movie you like?

Webster’s definition of a bucket list is simple: "a list of things that one has not done before but wants to do before dying".
But picture this: Your father’s life is taken by a distracted driver, and after his death, you find a bucket list that was created the year you were born - some items checked off and others still not accomplished. Would you take it upon yourself to complete his bucket list? Laura Carney, magazine copy editor, author, and illustrator is doing exactly that and she details her journey in her blog and in her forthcoming memoir.

Now that coronavirus vaccines are being distributed, the first people to get it have become de facto ambassadors for it, reassuring the public that it’s safe. As U.S. states figure out how to roll out the inoculations, some people are wondering whether to get it at all, often because they’re scrolling in online communities where emotional anti-vaxxer anecdotes spread faster than accepted science.
Today we have Gwen Ela, a lac-USC, Registered Nurse. Gwen works in med-surg and lives with her husband and 5-year-old son in Southern California. Not only was Gwen one of the first people to receive her Covid vaccine, she helped to convince her mother (who is also a nurse) to get her vaccine as well.

Picture this: A Black woman dreams of serving underserved communities, and grows up to become one of Detroit Michigan’s finest, a policewoman.
When Cassandra “Lady” Bain, former Detroit police officer and internationally acclaimed singer, put on her Detroit PD uniform and served with her fellow officers, she knew that she had found her purpose, and was proud to serve and protect in the community where she and her family lived.
But what would you do, if a crash left you unable to walk without aid, and consequently caused you to be retired, not only from the force, but also from the life that you held so dear? Would you let depression consume you and become a recluse? Or would you find a new purpose? One that would lift the world up in song?

To round out our 2020, we wanted to bring you something really special as our last episode of the year. Previous guests Rochelle Webb of Episode 46: Rochelle Webb Is The Only One Who Finds Power In Being Self-Partnered and Traci Kearney of Episode 53: Traci Kearney Is The Only One Fighting To Prove Her Husband's Innocence combine forces to come together with one mission: to bring Traci Kearney's husband Chris Kearney home.
Former Only One In The Room guest Rochelle Webb heard Traci Kearney's heartfelt and powerful message while listening to her story on our podcast and was quick to ask Laura to be connected so she can jump into action to help Traci bring her wrongfully accused husband home to his wife and 2 children. In this episode we talk with the both of them on how they are joining forces to make it happen.

Picture this: Two weeks after a traumatic birth and a cerebral palsy diagnosis, you are adopted and taken to a small town in the south where you and your siblings are the only Black children with white parents. Imagine then, being thirteen-years-old and making the decision to come out and tell your family that you are a lesbian.
Nineteen-year-old Bliss Besinger is now a sophomore at Meredith College, an all-girl liberal arts college in Raleigh, North Carolina where she is the only Black student in the theater department. You heard Bliss’s mom, Deb Besinger, talk about her when we interviewed her for season six. Deb’s episode is The Only White Mom with Adopted Black Children.

Monique Farook, host of the popular podcast, Infertility And Me, found herself in an impossible position when it became clear that she wasn’t going to get pregnant the way the rest of her friends and family had, that she and her husband were not going to conceive a baby naturally.

Season 5 of the Only One In The Room began in early April 2020 and the show couldn't help but respond to the reality that was unfolding regarding COVID-19. Therefore, the COVID Warriors bonus series was launched in order to learn from and honor those who work in fields that have stories to share related to the pandemic. Laura Cathcart's father happens to be one of those people and we are delighted to re-share this episode with you once again. Enjoy the listen while Laura and Scott continue to record brand new episodes for Season 8 of The Only One In The Room.
This episode features Dr. Ronald Cathcart, who has specialized in patients living with HIV since 1989 and has spent the past 14 years as the staff physician at Comprehensive Healthcare in Melbourne, Florida.
