"Our official office budget is very tight however we are a close knit team that enjoys celebrating each other's life events. One of the long time coworkers has yet to contribute financially to ANY other staff members retirement, baby shower, get well gift etc., however takes credit as though they have donated on multiple occasions. Only a couple employees are aware this is not the reality. Unfortunately, this individual recently suffered a loss of a close friend and has been out of work to help orchestrate final arrangements. Upper management has acquired permission and funding to send a floral arrangement to this friend's service in a show of support. Unlike any other employees acknowledgement of life events, where an offering cup is passed around amongst teammates to take up a collection. It feels like favoritism and leaves a bad taste in the mouths of staff members that are "in the know." Addressing this with HR is not an option. Before the office dynamic blows up, how should the next employee "event" be handled?"
