"My family is upset with me because of the gifts I gave my grandchildren for graduating and completing another school year. Each year, I give all of my grandchildren a card with the same amount of money. This year, I changed things up and gave different amounts of money to the children. Some made more than others based on their grades and accomplishments. My two sons and my daughter went ballistic on me. They said my gifts created havoc in their households among their children. Some were upset because their brothers or sisters received more cash than they did. I told my kids that those who did better were rewarded with more money. They said that was a terrible idea and that kids don't understand that. I told them that this is a perfect teaching moment and that they should tell their children the better they do the more money they can earn. They say I made a mistake by giving the kids different amounts? Did I? Some of the kids think I love their brothers and sisters more because I gave them more money"
