"We had a big birthday party at work yesterday. Everyone was sitting around eating cake and ice cream and talking about how excited we are to watch the opening ceremonies of the Olympics tonight. One of the guys said all of the athletes should get medals, not just the top three with gold, silver and bronze. He said the amount of work the athletes put into making it to the Olympics justifies some sort of medal. This caused a huge argument about participation trophies and whether or not all athletes, regardless of sport, should receive one. I don't think all Olympians should receive one just in the same way I don't feel all of the kids in my son's Little League should get them either. Several people verbally attacked me because of my stance. What do you think? Should all athletes receive participation trophies?"
