A tradition as pure as Christmas dinner or Leap Day Williams, Andy and Jared are back for their 5th annual spring game draft. This years edition is as hotly contested as any other, as the fellas try and put together the best possible combinations of the 2022 Michigan football roster.

On this week’s Future Brew podcast, Von Lozon and Jon Simmons discuss the beginning of the spring evaluation for the 2023 football recruiting class. College coaches can now go across the country and see their top targets in person, whether that be a quick visit at the recruit’s school or to see them partake in a sporting event.

The weird part is college coaches cannot speak to a recruit in-person. The communicating must be done between a high school coach, a parent, pretty much a second party. But once the college coaches leave the high school, they can reach out to the recruit, whether it be by a phone call or text message or some other form of communication, to let them know they were there.

This is a really strange rule...but it is what it is.

So who should Jim Harbaugh and the Michigan Wolverines put at the top of their list to go check out during this time on the recruiting calendar? We break down the five recruits we think they should roll out the red carpet for during this period of time.

Over the last week alone, the Michigan Wolverines gained a commitment in their 2023 class from running back Benjamin Hall and lost their lone tight end commit, as Andrew Rappleyea flipped from U-M to Penn State.

Hall is more of a bruiser, between-the-tackles running back who will be able to mesh well with speedster four-star Cole Cabana, but did Mike Hart and Michigan take his commitment too soon? Meanwhile, who will Grant Newsome go after now at the tight end position following Rappleyea’s decommitment?

The Michigan Wolverines held their football spring game at the Big House this past Saturday, which featured returning playmakers from last year’s team, a slew of impressive early enrollee freshman and an impressive former walk-on who may have stole the show.
