  • Prisoners of Rock and Roll: The 2023 Rock Hall of Fame Nominees

It’s pretty easy to complain about the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nominees every year – heck, we’ve done it ourselves more than once. But the nominees for the class of 2023 are out and it’s a pretty solid list. There’s a mix of artists from different eras and different genres. Some first timers and some artists that made us go “yeah, why AREN’T they in the hall of fame yet?” Still no Motorhead, Funk Brothers, or Motley Crue though.

In this episode of Prisoners of Rock and Roll, we’re talking about the nominees of the rock and roll hall of fame. What do we think of this year’s list? Who is getting in? Who deserves to get in? And how much do we dislike Kate Bush? Grab a cold one and settle in for this one.

We’re sponsored by Boldfoot Socks (www.boldfoot.com) and McCusker’s Tavern (17th and Shunk Streets in Philadelphia). We’re also proud members of the Pantheon Podcast Network (http://pantheonpodcasts.com/)

    8. My Rock Moment: Laurel Canyon Playlist with Emmeline Summerton of Lost Canyons LA

To close out Season Three, which celebrates the California Sound in the 60s and 70s, My Rock Moment teamed up with Emmeline Summerton of Lost Canyons LA to create our very own Laurel Canyon playlist.

Emmeline writes for the Topanga New Times, an LA publication that circulates to all residents of the canyons. She’s also the writer and creator of the Instagram account Lost Canyons LA which celebrates the history, music, art, and fashion of LA’s iconic Canyon communities.

We're sharing some of our favorite Laurel Canyon tracks and delving into the inspiration and little-known stories behind them. If you’re a fan of all things “behind the music”, you'll learn a thing or two about the artists and the music that came out of that incredible time and place. Here are the Canyon tracks we’ll be covering in this episode:

Southern Cross - Crosby, Stills & Nash

Ladies of the Canyon - Joni Mitchell

      Cowboy Movie - David Crosby

Gimme Shelter - The Rolling Stones

Twelve Thirty (Young Girls Are Coming to the Canyon) - The Mamas and the Papas

When You’re Strange - The Doors

So You Want to Be A Rock 'n' Roll Star - The Byrds

After the Gold Rush - Neil Young

And for those who are curious, the opening track is Jackie DeShannon’s “Laurel Canyon.”

In this episode, we dive into the inspiration behind CIVIC's music, the band's views on the relationship between punk and the mainstream, and the importance of honest songwriting in their music.

We also get a glimpse into CIVIC's creative process and the honesty that drives their songwriting. Jim discusses how the album's dystopian overtones may not be the actual story behind the songs.

      • Bakko Plus One -Josh Sebek, Welcome To 1979

In this ep of Plus One, Bakko is joined by Vinyl Mastering Engineer from Welcome To 1979 Studios in Nashville, Josh Sebek. We get into the very basics of mastering and step it all the way through to the finished product we put on our turntables.

Josh Sebek is a mastering engineer based out of Nashville, TN. Originally from Canada, he made the move to Nashville in February 2022 from Boston, MA to find a home at Welcome to 1979.

Josh began his career in audio at Berklee College of Music where he graduated summa cum laude majoring in Music Production and Engineering with a minor in Post Production For Film and TV. During his time there he discovered a love for mastering completely by chance and never looked back. For him, mastering encompasses both the artistic and the technical side of audio in perfect harmony.

In addition to mastering, Josh is a devotee of all things analog – from tape machines to vintage gear and beyond. His love for analog led him to a deep interest in the vinyl format at a young age. As a result, he is intent on being involved in the vinyl industry from concept to turntable.

Welcome to 1979 – A Recording Studio Like No Other
