What a long, strange trip it's been. When we got together in 2011, we couldn't have envisioned that we'd still be doing this over 11 years later. Moreover, we never expected to have made the connections, friendships, and memories that will serve us for the rest of our lives.
In this mega-long episode, we share drinks, stories, memories and more as we look back on 500 episodes of Decibel Geek. From the theme shows to the interviews to the behind the scenes stories, we covered a lot of ground. It was heartening to take a moment to remember the stories, the people, and the response to these episodes. We discuss a lot of behind the scenes stories from over the years including the now-infamous April Fool's episode that got mixed reviews at the time.
Additionally, we hear from several friends that are listeners and podcasters who graciously provided great feedback and audio clips. It was a blast to hear from you all. We don't take the friendships and listenership lightly. While we've entertained you, you've done even more for us over the years and it's appreciated.
While this is a very long, rambling talk, we hope you enjoy our look back at 500 episodes of the Decibel Geek podcast and SHARE with a friend!

What are MashUps??? MashUps are when a DJ/Producer takes 2 or more different tracks, usually of different musical genres, and merges them to create a track that makes the listener pause, and tilt their head like a confused dog, before exclaiming "OH!" when comprehension of this new musical sonic cocktail occurs!:)
Here are some of our favorite MashUps that we use to rock nightclubs in 2022!
Please enjoy:)

HIGHLIGHTS:
Zachary Lazar and I talk about his extraordinary rock novel ‘Sway’, a story that reimagines the early days of the Rolling Stones, including the romantic triangle of Brian Jones, Anita Pallenberg, and Keith Richards; the life of avant-garde filmmaker Kenneth Anger; and Charles Manson and his followers. We also talk about the Stones at Altamont, Aleister Crowley, the Jewish mystical tradition, poets William Butler Yeats and William Blake, the difference between the Christian idea of Lucifer and the mythological Lucifer, the challenges of writing about real people in a fictional setting, my family’s tangential connection to the Manson murders, Joyce Carol Oates’ short story “Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been?”, Joan Didion’s titular essay from her book ‘The White Album’ and the moment the 1960s ended.
Later, two special guests drop by to add real-world context to the fictional story presented in ‘Sway’:
First, playwright, journalist, editor, and musician Tony Sokol briefly talks about the Stones’ involvement in the occult and with Kenneth Anger.
Then, Zeena Schreck, who is an artist, musician, Tibetan Buddhist yogini, and the goddaughter of Kenneth Anger, as well as former High Priestess of the Church of Satan (founded by her late father Anton LaVey), shares her memories of Kenneth Anger, including how her father made him her godfather and her personal and working relationship with Kenneth. She also talks a bit about her background and rebuilding her life as a Buddhist in Germany. In addition to this, Zeena discusses Kenneth’s interest in Aleister Crowley; the making of and background on some of his iconic films, especially the 1969 film ‘Invocation of My Demon Brother’ (a movie that figures large in Zachary Lazar’s novel ‘Sway’); Kenneth’s relationship with Anita Pallenberg and her influence on the Rolling Stones; and how Kenneth’s work influenced MTV and music videos.

This weeks show features the return of a Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee back to VRP, someone I first interviewed in May 2021, someone part of one of the biggest bands of the late 60s and early 70s – I'm talking about the wonderful Doug 'Cosmo' Clifford from Creedence Clearwater Revival!
I wanted to get him back on to talk about previously unreleased music from the 70s that he made with former Derek and the Domino's man Bobby Whitlock, which he is now putting out called 'California Gold'. Plus I wanted to get the lowdown on the new Netflix film 'Travellin' Band', a brilliant live performance from CCR at London's Royal Albert Hall with some great documentary footage included from their tour across Europe! And of course I wanted to hear some more classic Creedence stories too!
If you want to hear my previous chat with Doug Cosmo Clifford where he tells a fantastic story about the bands performance at the legendary Woodstock Festival in 1969, then please check out Episode 28 of Vintage Rock Pod
Don't forget to subscribe (for free) to the Vintage Rock Pod YouTube channel as well - where you can get to see lots of the incredible rock stars that I've interviewed over the years tell some great stories! There's also great Community content with polls posted every day for you to get involved with - well worth checking out!
It would also be great if you followed/liked Vintage Rock Pod on the social media sites too, just search for Vintage Rock Pod on Facebook - Twitter - Instagram!

This week Tom & Zeus breakdown and discuss KISS' legendary performance at Winterland Ballroom in San Francisco, California on January 31, 1975.
KISS was touring on their Hotter Than Hell tour when they stopped by Winterland to perform. This legendary concert was actually filmed and the concert music and video has become legendary. The promoter Billy Graham Presents filmed the concert in black and white. The band was still raw and the energy was off the charts.
Tom & Zeus first saw Winterland footage from KISS Xtreme Close-Up VHS when they were in college. It was KISS performing Watchin' You and the boys were blown away. Later Kissology Volume 1 was released in 2006 and it featured the whole concert.
Come and listen to guys dissect every part of this legendary performance and see why this concert is one of the best moments in KISStory!

Where's the best seat in the venue? Is it in the upper deck so you can see the full stage show? What about straight back by the soundboard so you can hear the best? Or is it the front row so you can be as close to the action as possible?
The front row is an elusive spot. It takes big bucks or intense dedication to earn. No one just "walks up" to the front row. There has to be intentionality.
For the Allman Brothers Band, I gave it everything I had, even arriving at the venue before security, and it paid off. Hear what it takes to secure a spot on the rail and see the performance of a lifetime.
