Pantheon - Podcasts for Music Lovers

Chris O’Rourke, Rachel McNally, and eventually Derek van Beever, collectively known as Sleepyhead, are my guests this episode. All three had very different paths into music. Drummer Rachel didn’t even start playing drums until college and that was really just to be in a band with Chris. Speaking of Chris, one of his biggest influences was a childhood friend, Jon McLean, who is a founding member of Six Finger Satellite. And Derek’s turning point happened during a family trip to Malta.

The band has a name that didn’t really match their sound, and I get the story of how that happened. I also hear about how they recorded with possibly the world’s longest drum loop, the difficulties of touring and recording when you’re raising kids, and how a faculty variety show really got the band back together again. And we wrap up with a story about trained chipmunks, so you gotta stick around for THAT! Check out the band’s new album, New Alchemy on Bandcamp, check out sleepyheadrockband.com, @sleepyheadrockband on Instagram and Facebook, and @sleepyhead1989 on Twitter. This EP LC looks to make amends with his past while coaxing Bakko to reveal some past shittery. Bakko has breaking War Babies news. An Elderfest Announcement. Wolfgang Van Halen needs to take a timeout. Tommy Lee gets into the boutique pastry game. Corey Feldman has another abuser to expose. The MoFi vinyl scandal. Adam Levine is still a douche bag. And somehow... more.

On the 4th Episode of Dorm Damage with Tom & Zeus, the guys breakdown the "30 Best MTV Unplugged Performances" as compiled by SPIN Magazine.

MTV Unplugged was the go to place for artists to showcase their creativity and their songs, in a stripped down setting with acoustic instruments. The 1990's featured many MTV Unplugged albums that sold millions and became legendary.

The guys go through the list and discuss the rankings and then they list their own Top Ten list of favorite MTV Unplugged albums.

Which album was #1? Who agreed? Whose the Egyptian Magician?

Tune in and find out!
