This week's episode of Parent Tell finds Kaila talking with former coworker and fellow elementary school teacher, Sarah, about her experience with gestational diabetes. Sarah goes into detail about what it felt like to actually receive this diagnosis, how she had to learn to make dietary adjustments for the health of herself and her baby, as well as how an incorrect guess about her baby girl's birth weight led to an induction and subsequently an emergency c-section.

Buckle up, y'all, because this week on Parent Tell Kaila is finally dedicating an episode to what it has been like to parent amidst a global pandemic. Denise (from the episode, 'What Do You Mean You're Not A Baby Person?') joins Kaila for the second time on the podcast and the two moms dive right into how hard, isolating, and scary the past 2 years have been for parents with children but most notably for those with children under the age of 5. So far, we have all made it through an unprecedented time and through various ups and downs (not to mention multiple variants, big yikes), but sometimes ya gotta acknowledge the pink elephant in the room and vocalize how trying (read: all around traumatizing) this really has been.

This week on Parent Tell, Kaila welcomes Sarah Salisott onto the show to talk about fostering, the foster care system, adoption, and all the trauma that comes with it. Kaila and Sarah hit it off immediately and it's pretty clear that the two moms highly value the real (sometimes uncomfortable) truth when it comes to children, parenting, and processing the trauma involved with all of the above. Sarah is a certified parent coach who uses her skills to help foster, adoptive, and biological families and while chatting with Kaila about what it takes to become a foster parent, Sarah doesn't hesitate to spell out exactly what a person's intentions should be when deciding to foster. If you are unfamiliar with the foster care system and want to know more in order to increase your understanding, this episode is exactly what you need to hear.
About the Guest: Sarah Salisott is a Certified Parent Coach whose passion is helping families with children who have experienced trauma or struggle with attachment. She started The Foster Lane Parent Coaching in 2016. Her goal is to use coaching to help others avoid some of the parenting challenges her own family faced.

This week, Kaila talks with an anonymous guest about her experience growing up in, and then leaving, a high control fundamentalist church. This episode came to be because Kaila was posting about cults on the Parent Tell Instagram, and not only did numerous people respond saying that they too are fascinated with learning about cults and how they operate, a Parent Tell listener contacted Kaila saying she was open to talking about her experience and how it shapes how she parents now as a mother herself.
This episode is an eye opener for those of us who did not grow up in extremely controlling environments, but also sets a great example of what overcoming your fears and rising above looks like. Enjoy.

This week's episode of Parent Tell is a bit grim but focuses on a topic that often gets overlooked: end of life documents. Kaila spoke with her friend Katie (@anewkindoflawyer), an attorney who deals with wills and trusts (and who has been on the podcast before! Check out the postpartum episodes). Katie explains why it really does matter whether or not you have end of life documents completed and filed and why we should all hop to it and make this happen for ourselves ASAP.

This week Kaila got a crash course in congenital heart defects and what it's like to raise a child who is not only born with a heart defect but diagnosed with a pretty rare one in utero. Paulette, of the podcast War Stories From The Womb, tells the story of how she came to find out that her daughter had a congenital AV block while she was still in the womb, how that impacted the rest of her pregnancy and delivery, as well as what it's been like doing her best to keep her kiddo alive and thriving for the past 19 years.
It's not all dark and twisty, however; the moms still manage to crack jokes about exotic high school field trips, the masterful ability to completely deny one's internal freak out, and whether or not sleeping in socks is what we should all be doing.

This week's episode of Parent Tell is a Babysode! It's been a while so what better time to kick off 2022 than with a lil' chat between Kaila and her husband Jimmy. The theme of this babysode is pretty simple: say the nice things you're thinking about other people, to their face. Kaila and Jimmy both share a really nice thing that someone has said to them recently, and this leads them to talk about the importance of not assuming our friends and family members know how much we love them. If we love someone, we should tell them.
Happy New Year!

This week's episode of Parent Tell, Kaila speaks with Kristin Mallon, a certified nurse midwife and mom of four. Kristin and Kaila covered a wide range of topics related to pregnancy such as giving birth and parenting in a pandemic, labor, delivery, and how to work with your provider to make sure your wants and needs are heard while also receiving the invaluable input of a medical professional. Most notably, the two moms discuss how important it is for us to remember that birth is a state of wellness and a birthing person's body is doing exactly what it needs to be doing, our bodies have got this.

On this week's episode of Parent Tell (which is also serving as the belated one year anniversary of the podcast, yay!), Kaila sits down solo and goes into detail about her breast reduction surgery that she had this Fall. While she does not cover the usual parenting ins and outs that you have come to love and expect, this episode still addresses important topics that also get swept under the rug such as body image struggles, unforeseen birth control side effects, and navigating the US healthcare system.

This week on Parent Tell, Kaila had the absolute joy of talking with Dr. Carline Crevecoeur, a retired OB/GYN who homeschooled her 5 children up until college. Kaila and Carline ended up enjoying multiple topics of conversation during their hour long chat but the primary focus was giving Carline the space to talk about how being a Black mom in America is different from a white mom's experience. From constantly worrying about her sons once they reached driving age, making sure that her children learned more Black history than the standard MLK and Rosa Parks curriculum touted in most public schools, and expressing the fact that Black childhood is often cut short.
Kaila and Dr. Crevecoeur have some lighter moments too (like the fact that they both married white men but only one of them has a sense of rhythm), because a hugely necessary and heavy conversation needs some light, which is very much a metaphor for the way life and the world has been for all of us over the last 2 years.
Dr. Crevecoeur wrote a book about her experiences homeschooling her children and it can be purchased here, or on Amazon.
Dr. Crevecoeur's website can be found here
