  • Kids' Music Kinda Sucks, Let's Change That

This week on Parent Tell Kaila talks about revamping kids music with Jeff Fajans, a creative coach and musician. Jeff decided to write and produce his own children's music albums after realizing that what was already out there just wasn't cutting it. Using the name Mrboodaddy (because who said our AIM names would never come in handy in our adult lives), Jeff has created a new style of music for kids that is edgy, relatable, and also doesn't make parents want to immediately insert some earplugs. Kaila and Jeff have an important discussion, where they kinda sorta bash the "traditional" kids' music, sorry not sorry, Little Miss Muffet, but also discuss that this new style of music goes deeper than just proclaiming a toddler's love for trash trucks. Millennial parents are focused on respecting their children as individuals and want to reach them creatively and encourage them to relate to the world around them.  Empowering children + giving them the respect that many of us who grew up with Baby Boomer parents didn't necessarily get until later in life, if at all = Big Millennial Parent Energy.

Jeff Fajans is a creative performance & leadership coach who works with creators and entrepreneurs to help them bring their biggest ideas to life and become better leaders. He serves on the Board of Advisors at Oasis Center International - a non-profit whose mission is to bring creativity and arts mentorship programs to underserved youth across the world. His mission is to help 1 million people bring their biggest ideas to life through his coaching, teaching, and advocacy of creativity.  Jeff is also an avid music creator & guitar player - creating a new style of “Beastie Boys for Babies” kids music that captures the authentic, wild ride of parents and their little kids experiencing the world together. He’s a Dad to an energetic 3 1/2 year old boy named Hendrix, and has been married to his amazing wife, Katherine, for over 5 years.

  • Babysode: Never Say Never!

This month's Babysode is here and in it Kaila and her husband Jimmy read what Parent Tell Listeners said they would never do as a parent and are now, in fact, doing. Because we all know that if you say your child won't have fried food until age 2 or will never watch more than 30 minutes of TV at a time, your kiddo will be chowing down on some fish sticks and watching Bluey in your living room before you know it! Justin Bieber was right, never say never!

  • To The Ones Who Keep It Real

This week on Parent Tell, Kaila chats with another honest mum from across the pond, Rebecca Oxtoby. Rebecca is an award-winning British author. Her book series, Mum's The Word, has won Best Gift for Mum at the Project Baby Awards 2021, and documents life with a newborn, in all its sh*t-stained glory. Rebecca’s books speak truthfully about new mum life, post-natal depression, and the expectations of motherhood vs reality. Obviously a match made in mom friend heaven, Kaila and Rebecca talk at length about the importance of being honest when it comes to tackling motherhood (also toddlerhood, WOOF), navigating relationships and friendships while parenting, and being vulnerable enough to put their brutally honest thoughts and feelings out there for the world to consume. In a society that somehow STILL expects birthing people and parents to put on a happy face 24/7 and only talk of the sunshine and rainbows of raising humans, it's as vital as ever that people like Kaila and Rebecca continue to lead with honesty and inclusivity.

Rebecca supports other mums through her Instagram page @BookMumstheWord and both of her books, Mum's The Word: The Sh*t Nobody Tells You About Parenthood Until It's Too Late and Mum's The Word 2: It's All Sh*ts And Giggles are available on Amazon and Good Reads.

  • Tits Over Toes! The Pelvic Floor Episode

The long awaited (by Kaila, at least) pelvic floor episode of Parent Tell is here! Kaila had a wonderful and informative conversation with Allison Thompson, a physical therapist with a clinical focus in pelvic rehab and pregnancy/postpartum care. Allison is a toddler mom, a wife, and we are humbled to say, also an avid Parent Tell listener! The two moms discuss what exactly your pelvic floor is (along with why there's been a complete lack of education surrounding it), how we must advocate for important postpartum care like pelvic PT, and that it is in fact not normal at all to pee your pants every time you sneeze just because you had a baby.

  • What Supportive Parenting Actually Looks Like

This week on Parent Tell Kaila talks with Lisa Sugarman, a mom, published author, and radio show host, on figuring out how to support your kiddo when they are in need. Kaila and Lisa talk at length about taking a step back when your child is working to figure out who they are and what path they want to take in life. No helicopter or lawn mower parents, here! Lisa shares the story of her youngest daughter's journey to find out what career is right for her, and it turns out that going to college was not part of that . In a society that tends to place a ridiculous amount of value on a college degree and the traditional four year university path, it is vital to normalize discussions around seeking what drives you and what makes you happy as opposed to what we feel like we are ~supposed~ to do after high school. Lisa's supportive parenting style is a wonderful model for doing exactly that. Our kids' lives do not have to mirror ours and in fact, they probably shouldn't.

  • A Not So Babysode: Parenting Is Triggering

The monthly Babysode with Kaila and her husband Jimmy is here! Except instead of the usual 30 or so minutes to read and discuss listeners' submitted opinions and comments, Kaila and Jimmy took this thing to a whole new level: she's almost twice as long and just as deep for content. Guess we're calling this one a Tween-i-sode? We're still workshopping so, TBD. Kaila and Jimmy first each discuss an aspect of parenting that is very triggering and difficult for them, and then dive into reading out the ways Parent Tell listeners are also #triggered.

  • A Baby Doesn't Know Their Gender Yet, So Chill

This week's episode of Parent Tell is an excellent and completely necessary conversation on gender between Kaila and Kat. Kat previously came onto Parent Tell to share her and her wife's experiences conceiving their son through IUI and IVF (episode 42). This time around, Kat and Kaila share in their hatred for putting oversized bows onto baby girls' heads (Just stop. Please. It's okay if strangers on the sidewalks don't know your baby's gender, I promise), talk about how  childhood experiences with gender end up influencing the way we feel as adults, and discuss the importance of showing the next generation that color knows no gender so go ahead and wear that pink, sparkly top or dinosaur covered overalls.

  • The Layers Of Maternity Leave & Returning To Work After Birth

This week on Parent Tell, Kaila talks with Working Momkind Founder and all around boss ass bitch, Ingrid Read! Ingrid is mom to an energetic toddler boy, a career professional, a postpartum doula, and the Latina solo founder of Working Momkind. Her passion for empowering moms came right after her son's birth when she realized the importance of community within motherhood and set off to build it. As the one-woman shop supporting over 215,000 working moms, Ingrid feels personally connected to each one’s struggle and aspirations.
Kaila spoke with Ingrid about her experience with maternity leave and going back to work after building and birthing a whole new human, the sheer lack of education (and support) surrounding paid maternity leave in the US, and the logistical and emotional demands of separating from your sweet babe to continue to kick ass at work. While discussing these lesser known parenting realities, the two moms also managed to hit it off extremely well as they bonded over social media boundaries and going Number 2. Smashing the patriarchy and making friends, all in one episode! Multitasking: because bitches get shit done.

  • Diastasis Recti & Honoring The Body's Changes

On this week's episode of Parent Tell Kaila speaks with Leslie Abraham of Bonjour Baby podcast! Leslie is a French perinatal osteopath DO and exercise specialist with over 12 years of international experience. She is the founder of Bonjour Baby and the creator of the Postpartum Body Solution program. When she moved to the US in 2016, Leslie was shocked by the differences between prenatal and postnatal care in Europe and in the US. She now offers her 1:1 signature program to all women who gave birth weeks, months or even years ago, and helps them heal their body the right way, take back control of their health and life, find their identity as a new mom, and finally feel like their old selves again. Kaila had a fabulous time talking openly with Leslie about diastasis recti, pondering the reasons why  postpartum care is so abysmal in the US compared to other countries, and venting about the toxic 'bounce back' culture that still haunts birthing people. Not surprisingly, all of the above topics are related to one another!

  • Babysode: One Word To Describe Parenting

On this week's episode of Parent Tell, she's a Babysode! Kaila and Jimmy are aiming to be more consistent with delivering Babysodes to the Parent Tell Fam, and they are starting off strong with an episode that challenged them (and listeners) to describe parenting using only one word. Using just one word to talk about the most transformational part of your life is not simple and Kaila and Jimmy discuss just that while reading out the words others chose to define parenthood.
