Party Favorz — Dance Music Podcast

90s Classic House — The Ultimate 90's House Classics (1994–1995), Vol. 2 collects extended club mixes and crossover hits that kept clubs and radio floors connected in the mid‑90s. This installment focuses on soulful vocal house and big-room remixes, revisiting the era’s production choices and how they shaped dance floors then and now. Highlights include the Brand New Heavies’ N'Dea Davenport era, Juliet Roberts’ monster club mixes, and CeCe Peniston’s Bad Yard Club punch, with crossover staples from The Bucketheads and Mighty Dub Katz reminding listeners how house reached mainstream radio. The set also flags a few missteps — notably David Morales’ lengthy take on Mariah Carey’s “Anytime You Need a Friend” — where extended edits sometimes dilute a song’s original impact. As the mix traces a subtle shift toward harder house and early trance textures, it still roots itself in classic groove and vocals. Volume three of the Ultimate 90s House Classics drops next week for those following the series.

A Disco and NRG entry in the Diva Hall of Fame series, 2021 — this tribute set maps Sylvester’s career from late‑’70s disco to peak-era gay‑club NRG. The mix stitches classic originals and contemporary reworks across five decades and 106–147 BPM ranges, aiming to celebrate both his joyful vocal performances and his role as a pioneering openly gay performer. Highlights include multiple takes on “You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real)” alongside era‑defining cuts like “Dance (Disco Heat)” and the Cowley‑linked NRG anthem “Do Ya Wanna Funk.” The set leans on tasteful remixes by David Morales, DJ Meme, and Michael Gray while acknowledging the backing presence of Two Tons O’ Fun and the shaping influence of Patrick Cowley on Sylvester’s sound. Thoughtful sequencing balances high‑energy club edits with nostalgic disco rebuilds, making the mix as much an oral history of scenes and collaborators as it is a dancefloor document. For listeners who know only a few hits, this mix provides context and contrast, pairing vocal classics with modern reworks and deeper album‑era moments like “Over and Over” and “Someone Like You.”
