Zack Wheeler dealt and the bats backed it up as the Philadelphia Phillies beat the Pittsburgh Pirates, 5-2.  

 

Wheeler tossed six-scoreless innings giving up just three hits and one walk while striking out six. He threw 97 pitches as he improved to 5-1 on the season while lowering his ERA to 2.67.  

 

The Phillies offense got started right out of the gate as Kyle Schwarber delivered an RBI double in the 1st inning. Then Bryce Stott took over with a solo homer in the 3rd inning, his fourth homer of the season. In the very next inning, Stott struck again, this time by way of a two-run single. Bryce Harper drove in the Phillies’ final run of the evening with an RBI double in the fourth.  

 

The only runs the Pirates were able to muster came off Tanner Banks in the 9th inning. Bryan Reynolds.

 

The win clinches the Phillies’ sixth series in their last seven.
