In this episode with Kellie, we discuss the findings from her recent study on rowers with low back pain published in BJSM in 2021. We cover the definition of athletic low back pain, the prevalence, risk factors and how to unload the athlete. We also compare risk factors for athletic low back pain in athletes to the general population and discuss how these differences may affect patient management.
Kellie is a Tasmanian Institute of Sport (TIS) consultant Physiotherapist. She is currently a member of the APA Sports Physiotherapy Australia (SPA), Physiotherapy Business Australia (PBA) and Sports Medicine Australia (SMA). Kellie provided physiotherapy services for the London 2012 Olympics as part of the Australian Rowing Team and was lead physiotherapist for the Australian Rowing Team for the 2016 Rio Olympics.

In this episode, Dr Chris Bleakley discusses how he assesses and rehabilitates ankles following a sprain. Dr Jill Cook is a Professor in musculoskeletal health in the La Trobe Sport and Exercise Medicine Research Centre at La Trobe University in Melbourne Australia. Jill's research areas include sports medicine and tendon injury. After completing her PhD in 2000, she has investigated tendon pathology, treatment options and risk factors for tendon injury. Jill currently supplements her research by conducting a specialist tendon practice and by lecturing and presenting workshops both in Australia and overseas.

As well as being a Research Reviewer for Physio Network, Julia is a Lecturer and Researcher at the University of Queensland. She has been researching whiplash and neck pain since 2000 and in 2004 completed her PhD focusing on the neck’s influence on sensorimotor control. She has over 100 publications in this area, written several book chapters and is one of the authors of the book “Management of neck disorders- an evidence-based approach”.
