Here we go…
The field of Hand Surgery is not something the average person associates with Plastic Surgery, but it is indeed a subspecialty. And no, I don’t mean cosmetic rejuvenation of the appearance of the hand, though that really is a thing!
What we’re talking about when we refer to hand surgery is the surgical specialization in treating the problems, diseases, and injuries which impact the Function of the hand. Yes, there’s a lot that could go wrong within this small but oh-so-important part of the body.
Imagine all the different types of interwoven anatomic components packed into this small space, yet arranged in the most efficient and graceful way. It’s quite fascinating when you take the time to think about how everything can possibly work so smoothly together in such tight quarters.
By the way, there are some previous podcast episodes which are dedicated to the discussion of common hand problems, like carpal tunnel syndrome, tendinitis, trigger finger, ganglions cysts, broken bones, etc. They are very informative, so scroll back and take a listen when you have time, to Episodes 26,27,28, and 29.
But today we’re going to focus on the bigger picture of Hand Surgery… to give you a better understanding of what it is, what major accomplishments have been achieved in the field, and where it might be headed in the future.
And you are going to experience a Plastic Surgery Decoded podcast First!
This time, we have a panel of experts on our topic, rather than a single person. They each have a somewhat different point of view, as they are at different points in their careers. Dr. Lynn Ketchum in Kansas City, Dr. Steven McCabe in Toronto, and Dr. Ryan Endress in Colorado. They relate some great stories and eye-opening accomplishments.

Mommy Makeover -- the term is used a lot, but what’s involved, exactly? Is it always the same procedure?
While the earlier Episode 16 gives an easy-to-understand overview of the basics, in This episode of PSD, we speak with Dr. Camille Cash, practicing in Houston, who gives HER take on the subject, answering many questions that people have, like: Who’s a candidate for a Mommy Makeover, and what can be done? Also how has the focus of a Mommy Makeover expanded to address some often-forgotten-about body parts? Plus, how long should you wait after delivering a baby or after nursing, before embarking on procedures to restore or reshape the body?
Rest easy, it’s all right here…
It’s rare that we can tap into the experience and foresight of a plastic surgery “Great” — especially one who has practiced and contributed to the ever-expanding sphere for decades. But this episode of PSD does just that!
Dr. Foad Nahai gives us a concise and perceptive overview of where we’ve been and where we’re headed in this exciting and growing field.
Take this opportunity to hear what he has to say…
Many of us have seen our profile in a picture and have pondered what we’d love to be different. Of course, the nose plays a prominent role, but also the chin, cheeks, and neck are important in the harmony of the profile. Profile contour-changing procedures, both surgical and non, are sometimes collectively known as Profileplasty.
In Episode 49, we hear from Dr. Jamil Ahmad, who has expertise in contour-changing treatments of all of these areas, as he presents a truly thoughtful approach to his assessment and finessed solutions. Listen in to learn particularly about rhinoplasty (nose-reshaping), but also about chin procedures, and neck recontouring.
Well worth your time…
What if a person could have breast enhancement WITHOUT an implant??
This is intriguing to those who are implant-shy and seek to avoid them, as well as those who already have implants, and wish to remove them.
In this episode we hear from Dr. Bradley Calobrace, who has extensive experience in this area. In our interview, he sheds light on new techniques for enhancing or rejuvenation breasts WITHOUT implants, something that wasn’t really conceived of a couple of short decades ago. We also get a sneak-peak into cutting-edge developments which are sure to eventually be mainstream in the future. It’s surprising what can be done!

(Also, my earlier episode 17 is dedicated to Plastic Surgery for Men, and gives an overview of the basics on this subject. It’s a nice complement to the current episode.) Listen now…
Technology in Plastic Surgery: What does that mean, and what advances have been made?
In this episode, we answer those very questions, and benefit from the insight of Dr. Jason Pozner, a highly-accomplished, board-certified plastic surgeon, with Sanctuary Plastic Surgery in Boca Raton. He discusses the latest cutting-edge devices, and often has had a hand in developing them.
